And there entered the prison with him two young men. One of them said, "Indeed, I
have seen myself [in a dream] pressing wine." The other said, "Indeed, I have seen
myself carrying upon my head [some] bread, from which the birds were eating.
Inform us of its interpretation; indeed, we see you to be of those who do good."
Verse 36
Prison is graveyard of Living
Question: Does increasing the length of time in prison reduce the
criminal behaviour of offenders?
• The 50 studies involved over 300,000 offenders. None of the
analyses found imprisonment to reduce habitual relapse. Longer
sentences were associated with a 3% increase in recidivism.
• An analysis of the studies showed low risk offenders were slightly
more likely to commit new offences than high risk offenders.
• This finding suggests some support to the theory that prison may
serve as a "school for crime" for some offenders.
• Offender treatment programs have been more effective in
reducing criminal behaviour than increasing the punishment for
criminal acts. (Gendreau, P. Goggin, C., & Cullen, F. T. (1999). The Effects of Prison Sentences on
Recidivism. Ottawa: Solicitor General Canada)
Prison Psychology
The WHO Mental Health in Prisons Project agreed that for the majority of
prisoners, imprisonment was likely to have the following effects:
• Isolation from families and social networks
• Loss of privacy and poor physical and hygienic conditions
• Aggression, bullying, fear, suspicion and the attitudes of unsympathetic
and uninformed staff
• Lack of purposeful activity, of personal control, of power to act and loss
of identity;
• Pressure to escape or to take drugs
• Shame and stigmatization
• Uncertainty, particularly among remand prisoners, and concern about re-
integration into the outside world.

• Self-Analysis of other prisoners
• Testify to character of Yusuf AS
• Good repute in prison
• Effort to create a healthy environment in
prison
He said, "You will not receive food that is provided to you except that I will
inform you of its interpretation before it comes to you. That is from what
my Lord has taught me. Indeed, I have left the religion of a people who do
not believe in Allah , and they, in the Hereafter, are disbelievers.
Verse 37
Epic Character of Mohsin
• Helps beyond needs of a
person
• Provides information by
connecting to Allah
• Gives error free
knowledge
• Best productivity in most
restricted environment
• No pessimism
And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
And it was not for us to associate anything with Allah . That is from the favor
of Allah upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not
grateful.
Verse 38
Islamic Identity
• How many religions believe in ‘GOD’?
• How many worship ‘Only ONE GOD’?
• Their problem: God is too holy to be
approached directly
Foundation Subject
• Profound way of doing dawah
• Insight into shirk
• What to consider blessing of Allah
• Blend of history and logic
Connect to Allah first
The Messenger of Allah, ‫ﷺ‬, informed Mu'adh
bin Jabal, when he was going to the land of
Yemen, "You are going to a people from the
People of the Book. Let the first thing that you
call them to be the worship of Allah. If they
acknowledge Allah, then inform them that
Allah has obligated upon them five prayers
during their days and nights." [Agreed upon]
3 categories of Tawheed
1. Tawheed ar Ruboobeeyah (Accepting Allah
as Rub)
2. Tawheed al Asmaa was Sifat (Deeper
knowledge and application of Allah’s
Names and Attributes)
3. Tawheed al Ibaadah (Allah’s Worship based
on how He demanded)
O [my] two companions of prison, are separate
lords better or Allah , the One, the Prevailing?
Verse 39
Dawah to Strangers
• Making bond and rapport
• Never begin with hostility
• Non-defensive style
You worship not besides Him except [mere] names you have named
them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no
authority. Legislation is not but for Allah . He has commanded that
you worship not except Him. That is the correct religion, but most of
the people do not know.
Verse 40
O two companions of prison, as for one of you, he will
give drink to his master of wine; but as for the other, he
will be crucified, and the birds will eat from his head.
The matter has been decreed about which you both
inquire."
Verse 41
Make things Easy but don’t change
them
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
The Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬ said, "Make things easy for the
people, and do not make it difficult for them,
and make them calm (with glad tidings) and do
not repulse (them ).
(Bukhari:6125)
And he said to the one whom he knew would go
free, "Mention me before your master." But Satan
made him forget the mention [to] his master, and
Joseph remained in prison several years.
Verse 42
And [subsequently] the king said, "Indeed, I have seen [in a dream]
seven fat cows being eaten by seven [that were] lean, and seven
green spikes [of grain] and others [that were] dry. O eminent ones,
explain to me my vision, if you should interpret visions."
Verse 43
They said, "[It is but] a mixture of false dreams,
and we are not learned in the interpretation of
dreams."
Verse 44
But the one who was freed and remembered after
a time said, "I will inform you of its interpretation,
so send me forth."
Verse 45
[He said], "Joseph, O man of truth, explain to us about seven fat
cows eaten by seven [that were] lean, and seven green spikes [of
grain] and others [that were] dry - that I may return to the people;
perhaps they will know [about you]."
Verse 46
Responding to people who used
you
• No reprimand
• Beautiful Sabr
• No conditions set
• Helpful beyond capacity
[Joseph] said, "You will plant for seven years
consecutively; and what you harvest leave in its
spikes, except a little from which you will eat.
Verse 47
Then will come after that seven difficult [years]
which will consume what you saved for them,
except a little from which you will store.
Verse 48
Then will come after that a year in which the
people will be given rain and in which they will
press [olives and grapes]."
Verse 49
And the king said, "Bring him to me." But when the
messenger came to him, [Joseph] said, "Return to your
master and ask him what is the case of the women who cut
their hands. Indeed, my Lord is Knowing of their plan."
Verse 50
When Character At Stake
• Clear honour in dignified manner
• Public confession and clearance
