1. CHILDREN’S COURT
Crime: Young Offenders

2.  The Children's Court
is a specialist court
to deal with cases
involving children.
 Juveniles are 10-
17yo
 People aged up to
21 may still appear
in Children’s Court, if
they were under 18
when the crime was
committed.

3.  The Children’s Court deals with everything but
the most serious of crimes:
 criminal cases
 applications for apprehended violence orders
 applications for compulsory schooling orders, and
 cases involving the care and protection of
children.
 Children’s Court is closed – proceedings aren’t
public.
 Intended to be flexible; less formal than adult
court
 Aims to rehabilitate children.
