History in Brief
In 1941, Dr. Maxim Pollock noticed that after curing
patients of Tuberculosis, these patients were being
discriminated against in the workplace for fear of the
transmissibility of the disease. So, he opened a business
where he would bring in work and employ these affected
individuals. They would sew safety items like gloves,
aprons, and caps for welders at Caterpillar. He named it,
Peoria Production Shop (PPS). In 1951, he incorporated
PPS as a non-profit and opened up employment to
individuals with all types of disabilities. Today, the mission
of Peoria Production Solutions is to be the premier
employer of individuals with disabilities.
Journey So Far
PPS has been supplying weight-transfer or Gait belts to the
medical industry for 40+ years. The company sells these on
its website ( ) as well as on Amazon. PPS

Gait belts are in the top 100 home medical devices on
Amazon and climbing. Within the past ten years, it
discovered PT and OT nurses wanted to utilize the same
belt across several patients and needed a material that could
be sanitized. This led to PPS offering the Gait Belts in 2
different materials: cotton and vinyl. When the geriatric
population began expanding, the demand for larger belts
was expected of PPS, and again the research and design
committee decided to offer a 72" belt in addition to the
original 60" belt.
During COVID, PPS developed a relationship with OSF
Healthcare, a local healthcare organization with over 15
hospitals in the Midwest. By making 3-ply masks as well as
filling spray bottles with a disinfectant, Oxifir, PPS and
OSF expanded their partnership past the gait belts.
Currently, PPS produces 33,000 3-ply masks daily.
Today, PPS continues to serve the healthcare industry by
partnering with local healthcare organizations' innovation
departments. Currently, there are more projects with
pending patents and assemblies being designed by a
collaborative effort of several area Healthcare organizations
and PPS.
Dan, the President & CEO enjoys developing and
executing the strategy of a business. He says, "This is my
second stint in this role, but my first in the not-for-profit
space. This role is very gratifying, especially at PPS, where
we can provide a safe and respectful work environment for
so many individuals with a disability who might otherwise
not be employed or if employed, work where they stand
out. At PPS, those employees blend into the fabric of what
PPS does."
"What I enjoy most about my role as President/CEO is
when we land a continual piece of business that will employ

Dan's dedication to the mission is inspiring to the
entire team at PPS. He has established an all-
inclusive culture at both facilities. Each month
PPS hosts perfect attendance luncheons and over
50% of the company is eligible to attend. This

Finding a reliable workforce

kits such as First Aid kits, COVID-19 diagnostic kits,
telemedicine kits, home health kits, and breast pump kits.
Ensuring Safety and Sterility
For products that require safety and sterility, PPS utilizes
the space that is designated as an FDA-certified clean
room. For those that do not have such requirements,
appropriate PPE like hair nets, gloves, and the like are
used.
Quality is a top priority for PPS. Several times, PPS has
earned Gold level standards from Fortune 100 companies
and a 100% performance score from their manufacturers.
The quality department of PPS boasts about having less
than 5 errors per 10,000 transactions.
From Initial Samples to Final Delivery
Once the company receives samples or drawings of the
intended product, it performs a time study to estimate the
labor cost of the process. That labor cost goes into a
"scorecard" that captures all relevant costs like
administrative time, receiving time, packaging material
cost and etc. All the numbers are calculated into a per-unit
price. This price is relayed to the customer, who then
issues a PO to the company, and the job gets inserted into
the production schedule.
Once raw materials enter the facility, they are
immediately checked for any possible damage during
shipment, beginning with the box's exterior. A rigorous
inspection is completed and meticulously counted to
ensure the client received the amount of product they
ordered in the expected condition. Once all materials are
received and pass inspection, the line is set up and the
employees are trained. All employees have job coaches,
work instructions in picture format, and receive several
training sessions. Once the initial 5 products are created,
the quality department inspects the finished good and
sends these samples to the client for approval. If anything
needs to be changed, the process begins again. If the
samples are approved by the client, the line proceeds.
After many product runs, its Continuous Improvement
team tracks the time it takes to make the finished good
and suggests any room for improvement. All finished

footprint. So, we have pushed
toward more use of sustainable
and Eco-friendly packaging
materials. As a result, we
have been able to recycle
more than two million pounds
of material since 2018.

client if requested. Clients can be as involved in the entire
process or manage at a high level, PPS customer service
team adapts to every client's needs and provides top-notch
service to all.
"As we produce, the customer is kept apprised of the status
and once complete, a final count is provided to the
customer, who then arranges for pick-up and delivery to
their facility," says Dan.
Minimizing Carbon Footprint
In recent times, PPS has been more focused on minimizing
its carbon footprint. So, it has pushed toward more use of
sustainable and Eco-friendly packaging materials. As a
result, it has been able to recycle more than 2 million
pounds of material since 2018.
"Our telemedicine kits can assist with remote patient
monitoring for patients with chronic conditions which is
extremely helpful when there is a surge of highly infectious
diseases so the patient can avoid contracting by receiving
care remotely," adds Dan.
He continues, "The diagnostic kits and help kits can also
decrease hospital stays and visits when hospitals are already
overcrowded and help to provide care to patients within the
comfort of their own home."
Seeking a Competitive Edge
PPS differentiates itself by competition in many ways. The
company is a 501© 3 non-profit entity. That allows it to
focus on employment and job creation rather than simply
the profit of a piece of work.
PPS' mission is to be the premier employer of individuals
with a disability. With this mission, PPS hopes to start an
inclusively packaged mission that is an all-inclusive
company at a time when diversity is a significant topic. The
population of individuals with disabilities has an
unemployment rate of greater than 60%, according to
Source America. This means that the supply of capable
workers is out there, just awaiting an opportunity to be
employed.
"Also, this population of workers is very loyal and comes to
work every day. Lastly, they are very loyal and do not job-
hop for more pay elsewhere. Roughly, 60% of our 300+
employees fall into this category so that PPS can meet
customer deadlines and promise dates regularly,"
highlights Dan.
Overcoming Challenges
Reflecting on the challenges when looking at PPS, Dan
highlights, "I believe there remains entirely too much
focus on unit cost, thus leading companies to buy from
China. If these buyers would look at the 'Total-Landed
Cost' of buying overseas, where you would consider
factors like freight, time in transit, quality of the item,
and the like, US-based companies would fare much
better against their overseas competitors."

Can you tell us about the history and mission of your
company?
Nolato (acronym for Nordiska Latexfabriken i Torekov)
was founded in 1938 in Torekov, Sweden. Since 1984, it
has been listed on the Stockholm Nasdaq and has grown
both organically and through acquisitions to become a
global conglomerate.
Although headquartered in Torekov, Nolato now operates
predominantly outside of Sweden. With 6,700 employees,
the company spans three continents and operates in 13
countries. Nolato specializes in designing and producing
polymer products and systems, leveraging its extensive
technical expertise.
It strives to be a top choice for customers seeking
sustainable design and production solutions, emphasizing
the circular economy.
Nolato offers comprehensive customer services, covering
the entire value chain, including development and high-
volume production, and entered the medical device
component manufacturing market in 1957.
How did you get started in the healthcare packaging
industry?
Nolato’s Medical Solutions business area specializes in
developing and manufacturing complex product systems,
components, and advanced packaging solutions for medical
technology, pharmaceuticals, and dietary supplements.
With a diverse range of experience across industries, Nolato
provides a unique perspective to each client relationship.
Nolato creates customer-specific products and solutions
based on individual needs and requirements by leveraging
advanced technologies, sustainable solutions, and cost-
effective manufacturing. From concept development to
high-volume production, Nolato supports its customers in
the medical technology and pharmaceutical sectors, offering
services from idea inception to validation, quality
assurance, and full-scale production.
Nolato has two primary packaging manufacturing sites,
Nolato Cerbo in Sweden and Nolato Jaycare in the UK,
both with a rich history in the industry and offering custom
and standard packaging solutions.
What types of healthcare products does the company
typically package? What kinds of services does the
company offer?
With our long experience in developing and manufacturing
primary plastic pharmaceutical packaging, we offer a wide
range of standard products, development of design and
moulds for customized packaging, clean room production in
accordance with GMP, drug master files for product
registration, high level technical documentation as well as
international technical process support and flexible global
customer logistics.

Our product ranges, suitable for the pharmaceutical industry
are developed to meet the widely divergent requirements of
the industry in terms of product performance, shapes and
sizes. Through innovative research, development and close
cooperation with our customers and external partners,
Nolato contributes to making the delivery of all medications
safer and easier for patients. Nolato Pharma packaging
offers a full range of primary plastic packaging for both
prescription and over-the-counter medicines, covering
mainly solids, creams, and customized solutions for
ophthalmic and crimp bottles.
How does the company ensure the safety and cleanness
of packaging materials?
The ongoing investment in new technology and the
continuous focus on Lean development at our production
sites mean that we are constantly improving both our
services and our manufacturing processes. Knowing the
extensive requirements of our customers we focus on
providing a high level of compliance and documentation
with our products.
We ensure safety and sterility through thorough internal
processes covering production, testing, storing, and
shipping. It is our policy that all the products and services
from us must comply with the highest standards and
protocols, which in practice means always delivering the
right quality, in the right quantity, at the right time. We
achieve this through our employees′ professionalism and
training, our quality control systems and by our on-going
investments in the latest technologies. We also place strict
demands on our suppliers regarding sustainability, quality,
hygiene and secure deliveries.
Our highly automated production of injection blow
moulded and injection moulded plastic products conforms
to strict hygiene requirements (ISO class 8 in general) to
prevent product contamination. In the event of higher
requirements, such as the manufacture of products for
sterile use, we can manufacture products in ISO class 7
cleanrooms.
We employ Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) when
producing packaging for pharmaceuticals, ophthalmic and
VMS (Vitamin and Mineral Supplements). This includes
full batch documentation whereby traceability of products
and raw materials is part of our standard procedures. Batch
documentation is retained for at least six years, and a wide
of our products are listed in a type III Drug Master File with
the FDA. Unique products can also comply with the
requirements of ISO 13485 and CE, UN, Kitemark and NF.
With rigorous in-line quality control, packaging is checked
during the production process using various technologies,
such as in-line camera inspection and leakage test systems
that can validate both containers and caps for deviations.
With a computerized and automated system, we are able to
detect and eliminate practically all defects e.g. black spots
and deviations in wall thickness. Other important
parameters, such as opening force, axial strength and
dimensions, are also checked continuously during
production.
Can you walk us through the company’s production
process, from initial design to final delivery?
Understanding and meeting customers’ packaging needs is
vital to our success. We prioritize functional designs that
meet safety requirements and enable seamless handling on
filling lines.
By managing the entire process in-house—from design and
development to manufacturing and logistics—we maintain
control and ensure quality and reliability at every stage. Our
dedicated tool shops and skilled staff enable us to build,
adapt, and refurbish tools quickly for high production
quality and delivery reliability.
We provide comprehensive secondary operations such as
printing, labeling, assembly, and optimized packaging,
along with logistics support and irradiation management.
With a well-established project structure and experienced
staff, we collaborate closely with customers to develop and
deliver optimal packaging solutions efficiently.

Can you speak of any recent innovations or
developments in your company’s packaging materials or
technology?
Nolato’s commitment to sustainable development has its
origins in fundamental work within health and safety and
the environment. In the 1990s, Nolato was quick to
introduce certified environmental management systems
(ISO 14001) at its production plants.
In the 2000s, work was developed and intensified in several
areas to include a clearer strategy and long-term sustainable
development targets. This included sustainability work
linked to the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact and
the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We generate
environmental and business benefits by developing
innovative own and customer products with a smaller
carbon footprint and/or contribute to a circular economy.
Nolato offers a full range of caps and bottles based on bio-
material (sugarcane) as well as mass-balanced options,
supporting a reduction of CO2 emission by around 90% of
the raw-material part of the product.
The Nolato sites are only using 100% renewable energy in
the production of its bottles and caps, ensuring an additional
positive impact of the CO2 emission.

machines, etc as well as a high level of quality
understanding of the industry.

Ecovadis - For the second time in a row Nolato Cerbo has
been rated Gold under the criteria of EcoVadis’ system for

Can you tell us about the history and mission of your
company?
Teampac Oy is a more than 50 years old company. Teampac
is a Finnish healthcare contract manufacturer operating in
international markets; over 70% of production is exported
directly to 19 countries and we can say that products
produced by Teampac are used on all continents as our
global customers distribute products through their
distribution channels. Our mission is to be the leading HC
contract manufacturer in North Europe. The goal is tough,
but at the same time, we know we are heading in the right
direction.
How did you get started in the healthcare packaging
industry?
I have a long history in the hygiene and healthcare sector in
different sales and management roles. I have been working
mainly in Finland but ran some projects in Sweden, Russia
and Baltic countries. I have worked in management
positions in last over 20 years. When I was offered to join
Teampac, a family-owned innovative growth company, I
took the challenge and have enjoyed working with a very
committed and motivated organization.
What types of healthcare products does the company
typically package? What kinds of services does the
company offer?
We manufacture a wide range of products for healthcare
needs. E.g., disinfectants, surface cleaning, and skin
cleaning starting from patient wipes, adhesive remover,
stoma, and wound cleaning products. We manufacture wet
wipes, both single-packed and multipack (flow packs). We
also do a scale of liquids and emulsions to tubes and bottles,
like lotions, intimate gels, ultrasound gels etc.
How does the company ensure the safety and sterility of
packaging materials?
We are following very strict procedures in our production.
Teampac is a very quality-orientated company. We have
ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and ISO 22716 certifications. In

heavily controlled, we control air humidity, have hepa
filtered air in production areas and certain machines are
separated if higher safety and sterility are needed. We also
control daily water used in production and filtered fresh
water.

process, from initial design to final delivery?
Teampac can handle the production process from the idea to
the finished product- whether it is a completely new product
or an update of an existing product. The production of
existing products can also be transferred to us and we can
handle the process of moving production with the customer
and do all needed documentation and validations if needed.
How does the company stay up-to-date on the latest
industry regulations and standards?
Our regulatory people continuously discuss with our
network, customers and authority people and do continuous
follow-ups to keep us on the front line in this sector.
Can you speak of any recent innovations or
developments in your company’s packaging materials or
technology?
There is a big demand for more environmentally friendly
packaging concepts in the market, like mono laminates,
recyclable materials etc. Teampac is on the front line with
our suppliers to help customers find those from the market.
We are on our way to more environmentally friendly
materials, but we can´t say that journey is done yet; much to
do in that sector.
How does your company differentiate itself from other
healthcare packaging companies in the market?
Teampac is not the only packing company. We do have our
own R&D organization which can help customers in
developing the process from idea to ready product.
Teampac can also be the legal manufacturer if the customer
wants help. Our production is very scalable, so we can
produce from low volume to high volumes based on the
customer needs.
What do you see as the biggest challenges facing the
healthcare packaging industry today?
In the future, regulation in the healthcare sector is getting
heavier, and demands also increase, and pressure for
environmental issues is getting higher; for example,
Teampac has invested in solar power and ground heating
systems to lower our emissions, which impacts all of us.
What would be your advice to budding entrepreneurs
and enthusiasts who desire to venture into the industry?
The HC area is an interesting sector where customer
relationships are normally long, but the threshold to enter
the sector is very difficult due to large initial investments in
technology and expert organization. It´s also good to keep
in mind that product development is long-term and time-
consuming.

Several times, PPS has earned Gold level standards from Fortune 100 companies and a 100% performance score from their manufacturers. The quality department of PPS boasts about having less than 5 errors per 10,000 transactions. From Initial Samples to Final Delivery Once the company receives samples or drawings of the intended product, it performs a time study to estimate the labor cost of the process. That labor cost goes into a "scorecard" that captures all relevant costs like administrative time, receiving time, packaging material cost and etc. All the numbers are calculated into a per-unit price. This price is relayed to the customer, who then issues a PO to the company, and the job gets inserted into the production schedule. Once raw materials enter the facility, they are immediately checked for any possible damage during shipment, beginning with the box's exterior. A rigorous inspection is completed and meticulously counted to ensure the client received the amount of product they ordered in the expected condition. Once all materials are received and pass inspection, the line is set up and the employees are trained. All employees have job coaches, work instructions in picture format, and receive several training sessions. Once the initial 5 products are created, the quality department inspects the finished good and sends these samples to the client for approval. If anything needs to be changed, the process begins again. If the samples are approved by the client, the line proceeds. After many product runs, its Continuous Improvement team tracks the time it takes to make the finished good and suggests any room for improvement. All finished PPS has been more focused on minimizing its carbon footprint. So, we have pushed toward more use of sustainable and Eco-friendly packaging materials. As a result, we have been able to recycle more than two million pounds of material since 2018. “

As a result, it has been able to recycle more than 2 million pounds of material since 2018. "Our telemedicine kits can assist with remote patient monitoring for patients with chronic conditions which is extremely helpful when there is a surge of highly infectious diseases so the patient can avoid contracting by receiving care remotely," adds Dan. He continues, "The diagnostic kits and help kits can also decrease hospital stays and visits when hospitals are already overcrowded and help to provide care to patients within the comfort of their own home." Seeking a Competitive Edge PPS differentiates itself by competition in many ways. The company is a 501© 3 non-profit entity. That allows it to focus on employment and job creation rather than simply the profit of a piece of work. PPS' mission is to be the premier employer of individuals with a disability. With this mission, PPS hopes to start an inclusively packaged mission that is an all-inclusive company at a time when diversity is a significant topic. The population of individuals with disabilities has an unemployment rate of greater than 60%, according to Source America. This means that the supply of capable workers is out there, just awaiting an opportunity to be employed. "Also, this population of workers is very loyal and comes to work every day. Lastly, they are very loyal and do not job- hop for more pay elsewhere. Roughly, 60% of our 300+ employees fall into this category so that PPS can meet customer deadlines and promise dates regularly," highlights Dan. Overcoming Challenges Reflecting on the challenges when looking at PPS, Dan highlights, "I believe there remains entirely too much focus on unit cost, thus leading companies to buy from China. If these buyers would look at the 'Total-Landed Cost' of buying overseas, where you would consider factors like freight, time in transit, quality of the item, and the like, US-based companies would fare much better against their overseas competitors."

Batch documentation is retained for at least six years, and a wide of our products are listed in a type III Drug Master File with the FDA. The HC area is an interesting sector where customer relationships are normally long, but the threshold to enter the sector is very difficult due to large initial investments in technology and expert organization. It´s also good to keep in mind that product development is long-term and time- consuming. Please share any client testimonial or award that highlights your company’s position in the market.
