NARRATIVE REPORT ON 4th NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS
EARTHQUAKE DRILL
Strengthening disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness is one of the keys to
address the vulnerabilities of children inside and outside the school. With the increasing
effects of climate change, it is important to raise the awareness and capacities of children to
prepare for and manage possible disasters and/or emergencies.
With this matter, Malingao Central Elementary School conducted the 4th Quarter
National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill last Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 9 o’clock in
the morning. The said activity was participated by 702 learners and 25 teaching and non-
teaching personnel. The drill aims to increase the knowledge of children and teachers about
earthquake and develop preparedness for appropriate responses during an earthquake.
After the alarm, the children started to protect themselves performing the duck,
cover and hold under desks, tables and chairs and remained in position until the shocking
stops. And then, the children started to evacuate from their respective room to the safe
place or evacuation area. After the short message about safety measures, an “ALL CLEAR
SIGNAL” was given and the children successfully returned to their respective rooms.

EARTHQUAKE DRILL
A NARRATIVE REPORT
“Be a vigilantes” calamities comes just like the thief in the night. No one can predict
it. Be prepared always. So let us all
vigilant. Teacher’s responsibilities is to keep safe the welfare of his/her pupils.
Like what the C.P.
Garcia elementary school pupils did last March 1, 2012, we joined the first
12. quarter simultaneous earthquake drill inside our school campus. We followed the
mechanics given to us.
At exactly 9:00 o’clock in the morning, when the first 30–second alarm, the children started
to seek shelter and protect themselves wherever they were situated. They also performed
duck, cover and hold under desks, tables or chairs and remained in such position until the
shocking stop. And then, on the 20 -second lull period, the children started to evacuate
from the room/ building to the designated evacuation areas. The evacuation of the children
would be in buddy –buddy and they would not run, they would not shout but they walked
faster than the normal walked they had.
As they performed the drill, they felt as it happened in reality. They behaved well and follow
what their teacher instructed them.
The third alarm which is 15-second, this signifies the
occurrence of an ‘aftershock’. The children still in their evacuation area and right after the
occurrence of the aftershock, the teacher checked their children if there were
any sustained injuries and if in case they have report it to the Disaster
Action Team (DAT). And after checking and accounted all their pupils, the
teacher report it to the DAT and the team leader gave the ‘ALL CLEAR SIGNAL’,this signifies
the termination of the earthquake drill. The children successfully returned to their respective
rooms.
