Strategy = Execution. 4DX is an execution system that recommends the use of 4 disciplines to define goals, create clarity on actions needed and visible scorecard to stay on track.
The concept was popularized by the book 4 Disciplines of Execution by Chris McChesney, Sean Covey, and Jim Huling.
If you’re leading people right now, you are probably trying to get them to do something different. Whether you lead a small work team or a whole company, a family or a factory, no significant result is achievable unless people change their behaviour. To be successful, you will need their commitment. Getting the kind of commitment that will endure in the midst of the daily grind is not easy. When you execute a strategy that requires a lasting change in the behaviour of other people, you're facing one of the greatest leadership challenges you will ever meet. With the 4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX), you are implementing a set of proven practices that meet that challenge successfully every time.
The real enemy of execution is the whirlwind, the massive amount of energy that's necessary just to keep your operation going on a day-to-day basis. The 4 Disciplines aren't designed for managing your whirlwind, but for executing your most critical strategy in the midst of your whirlwind.
The 4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX) is a simple, repeatable, and proven formula for executing on your most important strategic priorities in the midst of the whirlwind. By following the 4 Disciplines –– focusing on the wildly important, acting on lead measures, keeping a compelling scoreboard, and creating a cadence
of accountability –– leaders can produce breakthrough results.
4DX is not theory. It is a proven set of practices that have been tested and refined by hundreds of organizations and thousands of teams over many years. When a company or an individual adheres to these disciplines, they achieve superb results –– regardless of the goal. 4DX represents a new way of thinking and working that is essential to thriving in today's competitive climate.
What the 4 Disciplines of Execution are and why they work.
• How to execute your strategic priorities and get results.
• How to effect change in human behaviour to achieve your goals.
• How to install the 4DX in your team and organization.

Find Your Why For Groups - The Agile South Coast Tribe Why, Feb 2019Steven Mackenzie
In his 2009 TED Talk (and 2011 book) "Start With Why" Simon Sinek told us that when we consciously start with "Why?" we can communicate more effectively and make better choices. Understanding and communicating our organisation's "Why" becomes important in our work when we encourage autonomy for teams to make decisions because we expect those decisions to be aligned with the strategies, goals and purpose of our organisation.
Discovering and stating our purpose, as individuals or as groups, can be difficult though. The parts of our brain that drive our motivation and emotional choices are not the parts of our brain that are competent with language. This session uses a tested format to help us uncover the underlying purpose of our organisation.
The workshop format comes from the book "Find Your Why", by Peter Docker and David Mead, co-authored with Simon Sinek. It outlines 2 separate processes, for either individuals or for organisations, to understand and describe the purpose that drives them. In this workshop we will use the exercise for organisations to explore the format, using "Agile South Coast" as the organisation that we can all identify with.

Welcome to the Program Your Destiny course. In this course, we will be learning the technology of personal transformation, neuroassociative conditioning (NAC) as pioneered by Tony Robbins. NAC is used to deprogram negative neuroassociations that are causing approach avoidance and instead reprogram yourself with positive neuroassociations that lead to being approach automatic. In doing so, you change your destiny, moving towards unlocking the hypersocial self within, the true self free from fear and operating from a place of personal power and love.
2. In these slides we’ll understand how to apply the 4
disciplines.
References & further reading material are
are compiled in the final slide.
3. Often the process of identifying WIGs will help you
find what matters most!
Remember if you have more than 3 priorities you
don’t have any at all.
Frame the WIGs as “go from X to Y by certain date”
Example
Improve fitness by going from 75Kgs to 70Kgs by
May 2020
4. In the previous example the goal metric - weight is a
lag metric. This is something you measure ‘after’.
Identify key activities that if executed systematically
will help you progress on your goals. Activities that
you have reasonable control over.
In our example goal
You could decide to spend 30 mins a day to work out.
Also you could measure your daily calorie intake &
decide to stay under your limits.
5. Imagine a sport with no scoring. You’d have no idea
who is winning or how many to win.
A visible scorecard is needed to keep us on track.
For our example
You could print out a calendar for the month and for
each day that you worked out tick the day’s box.
Mobile apps can also be used. The main idea is to
have a very visible scorecard.
6. Now that you have the system in place – decide on
how often will you review progress and course
correct.
Build the ritual of review and reflection. Pick a
frequency and make-it-happen!
