An Open Context for Archaeology
The common use by archaeologists of ubiquitous technologies such as computers and digital cameras means that archaeological research projects now produce huge amounts of diverse, digital documentation. However, while the technology is available to collect this documentation, we still largely lack community accepted dissemination channels appropriate for such torrents of data. Open Context (http://www.opencontext.org) aims to help fill this gap by providing open access data publication services for archaeology. Open Context has a flexible and generalized technical architecture that can accommodate most archaeological datasets, despite the lack of common recording systems or other documentation standards. Open Context includes a variety of tools to make data dissemination easier and more worthwhile. Authorship is clearly identified through citation tools, a web-based publication systems enables individuals upload their own data for review, and collaboration is facilitated through easy download and other features. While we have demonstrated a potentially valuable approach for data sharing, we face significant challenges in scaling Open Context up for serving large quantities of data from multiple projects.

WoSC19: Serverless Workflows for Indexing Large Scientific Data
The use and reuse of scientific data is ultimately dependent on the ability to understand what those data represent, how they were captured, and how they can be used. In many ways, data are only as useful as the metadata available to describe them. Unfortunately, due to growing data volumes, large and distributed collaborations, and a desire to store data for long periods of time, scientific “data lakes” quickly become disorganized and lack the metadata necessary to be useful to researchers. New automated approaches are needed to derive metadata from scientific files and to use these metadata for organization and discovery. Here we describe one such system, Xtract, a service capable of processing vast collections of scientific files and automatically extracting metadata from diverse file types. Xtract relies on function as a service models to enable scalable metadata extraction by orchestrating the execution of many, short-running extractor functions. To reduce data transfer costs, Xtract can be configured to deploy extractors centrally or near to the data (i.e., at the edge). We present a prototype implementation of Xtract and demonstrate that it can derive metadata from a 7 TB scientific data repository.

AIMS Workshop Case Study 2: Re-accessioning at Yale
Yale University is re-accessioning electronic records and media from previous accessions into their manuscripts and archives collections. They are using forensic disk imaging to preserve the data and extract metadata about the files and media. The records come from a variety of creators and contain many different types of obsolete media. The workflow involves imaging disks, logging details about the media, extracting technical metadata, and packaging the images and metadata into transferable BagIt packages to ensure preservation of the digital content.
Saa Session 502 Born Digital Archives in Collecting Repositories
Digital archivists from the Universities of Hull (UK), Stanford, and Yale currently are collaborating on an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation-funded project. Born-Digital Collections: An Inter-Institutional Model for Stewardship (AIMS) will produce a common framework for managing born digital archives. Each digital archivist presents a short case study to cover areas of workflow for electronic records: collection development, accessioning, arrangement and description, and discovery and access.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
