Rational numbers can be written as fractions where the numerator and denominator are integers. To compare two rational numbers, compare just the numerators without calculating a common denominator. For example, to compare 5/8 and 2/3, compare the numerators 5 and 2 to determine that 5/8 is less than 2/3. Rational numbers must have integers, not decimals or other fractions, as the numerator and denominator.
