Deploying a Java Application on Azure Kubernetes Service with Cosmos DB
Bitnami was recently invited to speak at a few Azure Meetups and we took that as an opportunity to just demonstrate something cool. We love our partnership with Microsoft and are doing tons of great things together on Azure, AKS, Helm and in the Azure Marketplace. Inspired by that work we wanted to showcase a fun use case, taking a common application type (Java) and running it in a container on a cool new platform (AKS) while leveraging a massively scalable distributed database (CosmosDB).

Searching The Cloud - The eclipseRT Umbrella
The emerging Cloud infrastructures offer new ways to develop dynamic services. Eclipse can contribute to these new services today by combining results from various projects. This talk will demonstrate how to set up a simple search application in the Cloud with the help of the following eclipseRT and Eclipse Technology projects:
* g-Eclipse will be used to manage and configure the virtual Cloud resources based on its general Cloud model.
* p2 will be used to deploy the search application.
* SMILA (SeMantic Information Logistics Architecture) is an extensible framework for building search applications for data like office documents, emails, images, audio & video files, blogs etc. One of the features of SMILA is the parallelization of processes/workflows, so the natural deployment environment of SMILA is similar to the distributed environment of the Cloud.
* RAP will be used to create a simple search-UI for the application.
This talk demonstrates existing goodies from Eclipse projects which can help to build Cloud applications independent from underlying infrastructures. It will show the potential power of Eclipse technology on the Cloud.

Auto Scaling (AS) can be configured to spawn and terminate EC2 instances automatically based on configured triggers, such as CPU utilization. This allows workloads to scale out during periods of high demand and scale in when demand decreases. AS is commonly used with Elastic Load Balancing to provide scalability for both compute resources and traffic handling. Proper configuration of AS is important to avoid overprovisioning instances and incurring unnecessary costs. While AS is not available in the AWS management console, it can be accessed via command line tools and SDKs.

The presentation provides a brief overview of the different technologies that can be used to deploy applications on the IBM Cloud (formerly known as IBM Bluemix) - Cloud Foundry applications and services, Docker containers, and Kubernetes clusters. Following, the presentation focuses in on the Hybrid Cloud model, looking at Hybrid Cloud architectures, integration between on-prem, private, and public cloud services, API Economy, and finally, IBM API Connect as one IBM Hybrid Cloud Solution.

Rise of Intermediate APIs - Beam and Alluxio at Alluxio Meetup 2016

CloudMonkey is covered in another presentation, apache libcloud is a python package which provides abstractions to many cloud providers, deltacloud is a ruby abstraction layer similar to libcloud which provides a standard CIMI frontend, jclouds is a leading abstraction for java applications. Apache Whirr builds on jclouds to provide on-demand big data infrastructure on clouds.
All tools are within the Apache Software Foundation, either top level projects of in the incubator (jclouds). this makes the ASF a one stop shop for your cloudplatform, your big data solution and your cloud clients. With Stratos from WSO2 joining the incubator, this means that the ASF now has a PaaS solution, completing the cloud ecosystem. One foundation, clear governance and processes, IaaS, BigData, PaaS and clients.
SNIA SDC 2010 Scality SCOP Launch

Hypervisors provide isolation for applications running on shared systems through platform as a service. As applications virtualization has replaced whole operating system virtualization, newer hypervisors aim to be smaller, lighter, faster and more secure. Historically, operating systems struggled to provide adequate isolation between services, leading to the use of hypervisors. Recent solutions for application isolation include ZeroVM, OSv and Docker, which take different technical approaches but aim to reduce complexity and the attack surface compared to full virtualization and traditional operating systems.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

Building Production Ready Search Pipelines with Spark and Milvus
Spark is the widely used ETL tool for processing, indexing and ingesting data to serving stack for search. Milvus is the production-ready open-source vector database. The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible.
