Deforestation occurs for several reasons: to make more room for crops, grazing land, and resources; because poor people need the money from cutting down trees to survive; and for fuel, materials, and charcoal. Desertification results from overgrazing, loss of plants, natural disasters like drought, and human activities like deforestation. The causes of these environmental problems include greed, the need for money and resources, survival, and escaping poverty, as well as overpopulation and orders from governments or landlords.
