It has often been dismissed as crude and

Earth and bamboo are two materials which have been used together for a wide range of traditional construction techniques in Southeast Asia. Both materials are locally abundant and affordable materials with a very low carbon footprint. Both are known to be materials of the people. And both are materials which can be used for crude self-construction or with highly engineered precision. Are earth and bamboo only materials of the past, or are they also materials for the construction of a sustainable future? Please come to discover yourself in this 5-day hands-on workshop at Auroville. The same workshop format will be offered four time in the year 2015.
The theme of the 3H Summer School 2018 was “Urban Furniture and Place Making”. Urban furniture refers to objects and facilities located in urban community spaces that provide various services and functions to the community. It is one of the essential elements of the urban environment that contributes to humans
and their activities. Although comparatively small in scale, urban furniture plays a significant role, in determining the
quality of an urban environment and in representing the image of a city. Of all the landscape elements, urban furniture has
the closest contact and interaction with humans. Urban furniture design involves a wide range of concerns, including function,
environment, and meaning. The program was designed to contribute towards urban furniture of Auroville through enquiry into the principles of placemaking. The end result was to create a cohesive unit that creates greater value than just the sum
of its parts. The students engaged in the design and implementation of an Urban Furniture project in order to enhance the community experience and quality of life by providing places to encounter.

The distress facing the agriculture sector needs an integrated approach deriving a win-win solution for all the concerned stakeholders—water security and better livelihood for farmers, easing of the massive financial burden on the state and the electricity utility, and benefits to the public at large through job creation and lower emissions. Our analysis considers a three-pronged approach consisting of (i) grid-interactive solar PV (photovoltaic), (ii) energy efficient pumps (EE), and (iii) advanced irrigation technology (AI) at the farm level. It makes policy recommendations for a successful implementation of this approach.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

45. IN THE SPIRIT OF COLLABORATION
Auroville Green Practices aims to bring together various stakeholders to envision future townships that offer a habitat that is
ecologically, socially and economically nurturing. Auroville Green Practices is managed by Auroville Consulting a unit under the
Auroville Foundation.
White Ant Studio is a design unit based in the International City of Auroville and headed by Fabian Ostner. Born and educated
in Germany, Fabian works since several years in India and – after three years in Bangalore (where he worked with a renowned
architectural firm as project architect) – has relocated to this exciting place on India’s eastern coastline, just 150km south of
Chennai.
The Unity Pavilion is meant to be a catalyst for the development of the International Zone. It will be open to all nations
presenting cultural activities, and in this way initiate the realization of the national/cultural pavilions. In this context, the Unity
Pavilion’s objective will be to promote understanding between people, individuals and cultures, and in that way work towards
an understanding of human unity that is the basis for realization of world peace.
Auroville Consulting provides comprehensive consulting and advisory services for project developers, manufacturers and
policy makers engaged in ecologically and socially responsible development areas. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, we
create unique solutions in the domains of sustainable resource management (energy & water) and sustainable management
practices.
