Snakes are common in many parts of the world. While most snakes are not dangerous to humans and will not attack unprovoked, some species like vipers can be aggressive and their bites carry toxins that affect the body. Symptoms of a snake bite include effects on neural structures, blood cells, the heart and blood vessels, and neuromuscular transmission due to components in the venom. Immediate first aid following a bite includes keeping the victim still and horizontal, sucking out venom if possible, applying a bandage, and providing CPR if shock develops.
