Super Bowl showed an increase in non-scheduled flights whereas Thanksgiving showed greater scheduled flight operations. The results of this study concluded that scheduled flights showed greater delays during Super Bowl when compared to Thanksgiving. A significant interaction was also found to exist between scheduled and non-scheduled flights operating during the two special events. Both scheduled flight delays and non-scheduled flight delays increased during Super Bowl. However, during Thanksgiving this relationship did not exist – scheduled flights had much fewer delays than non-scheduled flights. Jones Act has seen an excessive strain in the economy with prices of goods in many states hiking due to the restriction of foreign ships into U.S water territorials. There has also been a tremendous impact on the environment and internal revenue. The limits have impacted heavily on people living in the coasts of Hawaii, Alaska the island of Puerto Rico and Guam as a result of the Section 27 act which only allows "cabotage". Conversely, the federal law has fostered domestic shipbuilding leading to increased employment and a boost to national security. Jones Act also allows the compensation of sailors who might experience accidents in the line of duty. If this were to happen, I am in support of the repealing part of the law that acts as a burden to the American citizen. Since its enactment to law, the Jones Act, has hit hardest on the economy of U.S. despite the reforms done on Section 28. The restrictions on vessels made and operated by Americans has led to the variability in the shipping rates. The cost of transporting commodities has risen drastically due to the lack of competition from foreign markets, ultimately leading to an increase in prices of goods (Washington Post, 2010). Shipping industries locally, on the other hand, have increased the costs of the services they offer. The move to raise the prices of the available commodities has seen many citizens seeking for alternative means of importing and transporting their produce from the neighboring countries. The lack of a free market that has move to the states, must settle for higher prices than others due to the difference in the shipping cost. According to The International Trade Commission's 1995 Analysis, the cost incurred during the transportation of goods by these means apart from the sea is also high and impact on the economy of the country. The amount of fuel consumption during transporting goods through road is too expensive when evaluated. The effect of the Jones Act on the environment has also been felt across the state. The smoke and gases released as a result of traffic have led to the rise in temperatures in a different part of America. Carbon emission has, in the past, contributed to high cost incurred when managing. Due to the massive devices in the IoT network, users cannot be aware of the security policies taken by all its connected neighbors. Instead, a user makes security decisions based on the cyber risks that he perceives by observing a selected number of nodes. To this end, we propose a model which incorporates the limited attention or bounded rationality nature of players in the IoT. Specifically, each individual builds a sparse cognitive network of nodes to respond to. Based on this simplified cognitive network representation, each user then determines his security management policy by minimizing his own real-world security cost. The bounded rational decision-makings of players and their cognitive network formations are interdependent and thus should be addressed in a holistic manner. We establish a games-in- games framework and propose a Gestalt Nash equilibrium (GNE) solution concept to characterize the decisions of agents and quantify their risk of bounded perception due to the limited attention. In addition, we design a proximal-based iterative algorithm to compute the GNE. With case studies of smart communities, the designed algorithm can successfully identify the critical users whose decisions need to be taken into account by the other users during the security management. 293 Peter Singer has written about assisted reproduction, animal rights, abortion, infanticide, the environment, and famine relief. Because of his controversial beliefs, Singer’s appointment to Princeton University in 1999 created a public uproar reminiscent of 1940, when the City College of New York appointed Bertrand Russell, one of the twentieth century’s greatest philosophers, to a one-year professorship. In Russell’s case, the outcry culminated in a judge’s ruling that canceled the state university’s appointment. Commenting on the case, Albert Einstein said, “Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities.” Since Princeton is a private university, Singer’s ordeal stayed out of the courts. The treatment of nonhuman animals has traditionally been regarded as a trivial matter. Until recently, almost every ethicist who wrote on the subject provided some rationale for excluding animals from moral concern. Aristotle said that, in the natural order of things, animals exist to serve human purposes. The Chris- tian tradition added that man alone is made in God’s image and that animals do not have souls. Immanuel Kant said that animals are not self-conscious, so we can have no duties to them. 26.5Albert Beveridge, “Defense of Imperialism” Albert Beveridge (1862-1927) was a Republican Senator from Indiana, historian, and imperialist. A supporter of President Theodore Roosevelt (in office from 1901-1909), Beveridge supported American expansion in the Philippines, Cuba, and Puerto Rico after the American victory in the Spanish-American War (1898). In “Defense of Imperialism,” Beveridge portrays Americans as a people favored by God who are destined to rule over additional lands and achieve commercial supremacy. He did not believe that the people of the Philippines, Cuba, and Puerto Rico were mature or capable of self-government, which justified American rule. In addition, Beveridge acknowledges the importance of imperial adventures to justifying national greatness in the early twentieth-century. Beveridge’s ideas represent, in sum, two primary justifications for the New Imperialism of the late nineteenth and early twentieth-centuries. On the one hand, imperialists argued that foreign control was necessary for peoples not yet ready to govern themselves. On the other hand, they recognized that imperialism served the interests of the metropole insofar as it justified “Great Power” status among the community of nations. 2 An Evaluation of UPS An Evaluation of UPS's Approach toward Sustainability An Evaluation of UPS's Approach toward Sustainability The ethical dilemma witnessed in UPS provides an essential point of focus in determining the application of strategies in tackling different stakeholder's interests to achieve the objectives of the company. The dealing with the needs of the company must put the interests of stakeholders at stake to ensure that each group is satisfied with the operations of the organization. In the analysis of UPS, it is possible to explain the emerging issues by focusing on various forms of ethics to handle. Examples of ethical factors relevant in this discussion include the utilitarian, virtue, Kantian, and rights approaches (Herschel & Miori, 2017; Kalokairinou, 2018). Solving the ethical dilemma at UPS is possible by an emphasis on identification of the problem, balance sheet approach, engaging people, and the application of ethical reasoning to accomplish the misunderstanding. Internal and external stakeholders have divergent views regarding the support of sustainable activities to society and the environment. Internal stakeholders include shareholders, the management, the chief financial officer, and other employees while the external stakeholders include the government, environmental agencies, suppliers, and competitors, among others. The major challenge regarding corporate social responsibility (CSR) lies in the use of resources that may not have the required returns from the perspective of the shareholders (Kolk, 2016). The internal environment of the business is likely going to focus on the financial aspects of the firm and the benefits of the shareholders to an extent of suspending sustainability activities as evident in the case study where other workers do not understand the CFO's commitment to CSR. The existence of different ideas regarding the problem in the company makes it necessary to apply approaches that help solve ethical dilemmas. The four aspects applicable in UPS include debating the moral choice, using the balance sheet approach, engaging individuals at different levels in the organization, and integrating the final resolution into the strategic activities of the management (Herschel & Miori, 2017). It is essential to note that the application of these steps must use provisions of various ethical theories and approaches such as utilitarian, virtue, or Kantianism, depending on the factor that is affecting the organization. According to Kalokairinou (2018), CSR mostly applies the ideals of virtue and utilitarianism because the business enterprise such as UPS must engage in activities that are beneficial to a large number of people to make such an engagement a right. 28 The SAA Archaeological Record • September 2010 F ew images of the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq have been as powerful and persistent as those of the looting of the Iraq National Museum. Over three days, approximately 15,000 museum objects representing our shared cultural heritage were taken and hundreds more were damaged. Six years later, there are signs of positive changes in the U.S. military and in the cultural heritage professional community which may help prevent such a tragedy in the future. The story of the looting of the Iraq National Museum has been told in a number of publications over the past several years (see Bogdanos 2005; Rothfield 2009), but a few keys facts bear repeating. As the flagship institution for Iraq’s archaeological patrimony the museum contained as many as 500,000 thousand objects.1 During three days of looting, the staff of the museum estimates that approximately 15,000 objects were taken from the galleries and storage areas. That number would have been higher if not for the precautions taken by the museum staff to evac- uate most of the collection from the galleries to a secret storage area and to take protective measures for the remaining objects (see Youkhanna and Gibson 2008). A number of books and articles document the military planning process leading up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq (see Gordon and Trainer 2006; Ricks 2006). Most agree that while a great deal of attention went into planning for the defeat of the Iraqi military, very little thought went into planning for the post- conflict stabi- lization phase. As a nation that had not ratified the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, U.S. policy was to observe those parts of the 1954 Hague Convention that were considered customary international law. This included avoiding targeting of cultural property and admonishing U.S. military personnel to refrain from looting or defacing cultural property. However, in the months leading up to the war some U.S. academics and cultural heritage professionals warned Pentagon staffers that many region- al museums in Iraq were looted by Iraqi civilians after the First Gulf War, and this would almost certainly happen during the U.S. invasion.5 Unfortunately these warnings did not translate into a command emphasis on protecting cultural sites in Iraq, nor did planners adequately provide for supporting Iraqi authorities in their efforts to protect domestic cultural property and sites. Once stability returned to Baghdad, the Iraq Museum staff returned to begin the slow process of inventorying losses, stabi- lizing damaged objects, and recovery. Some looted objects were recovered under a “no questions asked” policy in which Iraqis returned a number of important museum objects. Others would be recovered during raids within Iraq and at customs entry points in other countries over the next several months. To date, just under half of the estimated 15,000.

Currently, however, controversy has arisen over this assumption. We can all think of examples where managers do not perform much, if any, leadership, as well as instances where leadership is performed by people who are not in management. Researchers have even argued that failure to clearly recognize this difference is a violation of “truth in advertising” because many studies labeled “leadership” may actually be about “management.”1 Managers versus Leaders A key way of differentiating between managers and leaders is to argue that the role of management is to promote stability or to enable the organization to run smoothly, whereas the role of leadership is to promote adaptive or useful changes.2 Persons in managerial positions could be involved with both management and leadership activities, or they could emphasize one activity at the expense of the other. Both management and leadership are needed, however, and if managers do not assume responsibility for both, then they should ensure that someone else handles the neglected activity. The point is that when we discuss leadership, we do not assume it is identical to management. For our purposes, we treat leadership as the process of infl uencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how to do it, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish shared objectives.3 Leadership appears in two forms: (1) formal leadership, which is exerted by persons appointed or elected to positions of formal authority in organizations, and (2) informal leadership, which is exerted by persons who become infl uential because they have special skills that meet the needs of others. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth. Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration. The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority. Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages. Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error. Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials. This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
