Creation of a new shopping
destination
Anchored by a new Sainsbury’s store, the
site will be home to a variety of retail outlets,
as well as places to eat and drink, offering
something completely new in Selly Oak.

New canalside
The area around the existing canalside will
be improved and landscaped and a new
pedestrian bridge will provide a link across
the Worcester & Birmingham Canal.

New student accommodation
One block will be built adjacent to the
Sainsbury’s store facing onto the canal
and the new square, providing 400 rooms
for students.

Life Science campus
This will comprise of offices and laboratories
set around a landscaped communal
courtyard, providing jobs for up to
2,000 people.
As well as good cycle parking provision and
pedestrian routes, a multi-storey car park will
provide up to 800 spaces, and will be tucked
into the landscape to reduce its prominence
on the site.
The campus will enhance the worldrenowned research and development offer
provided by the University Hospital Trust at
the QE Hospital and the University, bringing
new commercial benefits to Selly Oak and
an economic boost to the City.

A public exhibition will be held at the
Elim Church Centre, Exeter Road, Selly Oak
on the following days:

Friday 14th December 2012
1.30pm to 7.00pm
Saturday 15th December 2012
10.00am to 2.00pm
This is your chance to speak to team
members and find out more about
the newly revised plans.

currently taken up at the existing Sainsbury’s
in Selly Oak and colleagues will have the
opportunity to transfer to the new store.

Covering about a third of the site and conveniently located near the QE Hospital and Birmingham
University Medical School, the Life Sciences campus will be a centre of research excellence, which

Overall, the derelict, former industrial and landfill site will still be transformed into a high-quality,
modern mixed-use development and gateway to Birmingham. However, the updated regeneration
proposals will now accommodate a Life Sciences campus.

Prior to building starting, the site will be
completely cleaned-up after years of use
for industry and landfill. New trees will be
introduced on areas of open space around
the Life Sciences campus, which will have a
landscaped courtyard at its core.

The proposals include bringing forward
road improvements to the highways
network around the ‘Triangle’ site before
the development is completed.
Initial works will include the enhancement
to the turn-off onto Gibbins Road and work
on Chapel Lane.
These works would not only minimise
disruption to the highways but make significant
improvement to the local road network.
