Model organisms are widely studied species or strains used for biological research due to their easy maintenance and breeding. Examples include E. coli, which is a prokaryotic model organism, and Drosophila melanogaster, used for animal genetics. Other examples are Saccharomyces cerevisiae for eukaryotes and Arabidopsis for plant studies, all characterized by simple morphology and rapid breeding times.
