3. We learn a lot of information from model organisms. Frequently, these model organisms have
a particular “specialty” – a particular field within biology for which the organism has provided a
lot of information. Name 2 model organisms and tell what the “specialty” of each is.
Solution
Model organism is a species or strain that has been widely studied, because of easy maintenance,
easy breeding in the lab and possess experimental advantages.
E. coli is Gram - ve prokaryotic model organism
Drosophila melanogaster is, model organisms for Animal genetics
Saccharomysis cereveciae or yeast is a model organism for Eukaryotes
Arabidopsis is model organisms for plant studies
All these model organisms possess simple morphology, less genome size, less breading time,
mostly related to higher organisms etc
