25 Resources For Social
Emotional Learning
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process of providing kids with chances throughout the
school day to develop good behaviors and attitudes, such as goal-setting, demonstrating
empathy, nurturing relationships, making responsible decisions, and regulating their emotions.
Although these abilities are often not highlighted in state requirements for teachers’ subject
areas, they are vital for academic, professional, and personal success.
Over 25 states have created their own SEL standards and discovered unique methods to
implement SEL throughout the school day. Numerous high schools, for instance, have modified
their weekly advisory/homeroom sessions to include SEL content. Systematically applied, SEL
programs have overwhelmingly good outcomes for kids from varied backgrounds, including:
● Enhanced sense of self and perception of others
● Increased school community engagement More good social behavior
● Superior academic achievement
● Reduced behavioral issues and emotional strife
Here are 25 Resources for SEL (Social Emotional Learning);
1. Empatico
Empatico links pupils aged 6 to 11 with other students from across the world. Educators choose
a class partner based on comparable student ages, class schedules, and SEL objectives; they
then plan an exchange on universal, accessible subjects. The tool has a wide library of exercises
designed to assist students in forming connections, cultivating empathy and an interest in
different cultures, identifying similarities and differences, practicing courteous dialogue,
considering new views, and critical thinking.
2. SuperBetter
SuperBetter utilizes the advantages of games to assist children in developing resilience. In order
to improve their emotional control, mental flexibility, interconnectivity, self-efficacy, and optimistic
attitude, students engage in self-challenges, gather and activate power-ups, combat “bad guys,”
complete a variety of missions, and form alliances.
3. Waking Up
The software Waking Up by Sam Harris serves as an online introduction to meditation and
mindfulness.
4. Sown To Grow
Sown To Grow is a platform for goal-setting that encourages metacognition and introspection.
Students establish learning objectives, monitor their own progress, and write reflections on the
most effective learning tactics. Teachers may obtain insight into the mental health of their kids
and identify those who need further support. By accepting responsibility for their education,
students’ grades become less “what a teacher handed me” and more “what I earned.”
5. Grateful
Grateful is an application that pushes students to record little ‘events’ or ideas that contribute to
their physical and mental health throughout the day.
6. KazuTime
KazuTime shows a cute Husky dog and his companions that assist youngsters in early
elementary school with things such as getting ready for school and finishing homework. Through
the use of visual and aural clues, children get a greater understanding of time. The Resources for
SEL app provides students with the opportunity to anticipate the completion of an activity, so
reducing their anxiety over completing difficult tasks within a certain period.
7. Classcraft
Classcraft promotes student engagement via a game-based approach. Teachers may build up
separate classrooms in which students can assume three distinct roles: protectors, sorcerers,
and healers. Teachers may award students with points for hard effort, successful collaboration,
and leadership qualities. Students may spend their points to customize their avatars and win
classroom privileges.
8. Ongoing Conversations
With Ongoing Conversations, the teacher requires pupils to start conversations with a minimum
number of other students over a specified period of time in order to encourage them to break out
of their cliques and adopt new views. Students record the names, dates, and one-line
descriptions of talks on their trackers. By requiring a minimal number of distinct conversation
partners, the instructor makes it more acceptable for students to commence a deliberate
conversation with an unknown classmate.
9. Courageous Conversations
Courageous Conversations Resources for SEL assists adolescent students in navigating
emotionally sensitive or difficult themes such as racism, mental health, and privilege. The
framework encourages students to maintain engagement, tolerate discomfort, express their truth,
and get used to nonclosure. Students develop conversational standards and vocal or nonverbal
indicators to indicate when a statement has offended them. Through participation in brave
dialogues, students refine skills such as question-asking, courteous disagreement, justification of
replies, and consideration of many views.
10. The Social Express
Over eighty webisodes are available on The Social Express in which students interact with
situations to make decisions and comprehend their effects. Webisodes emphasize SEL
competencies such as active listening, conflict resolution, starting dialogues, cooperating in small
groups, and regulating nonverbal communication signals.
11. Growth Mindset
Growth Mindset Prompts For The Classroom are sentence stems designed to assist students in
cultivating a less rigid, more adaptable mindset.
12. Moodnotes
Moodnotes is an application that allows students to record and reflect on the connection between
their ideas and emotions.
13. Apology, Applause, Awareness
In Apology, Applause, Awareness, the instructor gathers the class in a circle at the end of the
school day to facilitate group discussion. Each kid offers an apology, applauds a classmate, or
makes an interesting observation. Students may begin to regard the classroom as a community
in which their words and actions have repercussions as a result of these remarks.
14. Roadtrip Nation
Roadtrip Nation provides students with complete access to a vast collection of interactive
professional tales and interviews, which they may peruse based on their area of interest or topic.
Students in middle and high school acquire goal-setting skills by creating a roadmap to their
desired career(s) and contemplating the practicalities of achieving their objectives. It has also
been shown that Roadtrip Nation programs greatly boost students’ self-efficacy and grade point
averages, making this a valuable Resources for SEL.
15. Daily Observances
Daily Dedications require kids to tell a 30- to 60-second story about a close friend or family
member. Educators may inspire students to narrate short anecdotes about significant individuals
in their life using pictures, music, and other interactives. Through sharing, children find that they
have more similarities with their peers than differences. This practice is very useful for
developing relationship skills in hybrid or online courses.
16. FUNecole
FUNecole facilitates the development of critical thinking abilities in pupils by posing authentic
difficulties. Students learn how to communicate with broad audiences, analyze information from
several sources, and make socially responsible choices by collaborating to accomplish shared
objectives. The application contains ready-to-teach lesson ideas that instructors may adapt to
their own subject areas.
17. The Fast Friends
The Fast Friends Resources for SEL exercise lets students rapidly get acquainted with one
another. Students are arranged in two rows facing one another. The first row of students
describes themselves in less than 30 seconds, followed by the second row. Once students in
both rows have completed the activity, they move one chair to the right and begin again with a
new partner. This rapid-fire practice facilitates the development of relationship skills, especially at
the beginning of a new course.
18. The Wheel of Emotions
The Wheel of Emotions Resources for SEL assists students in identifying their emotions within
the eight fundamental emotions of happiness, sorrow, acceptance, disgust, fear, anger, surprise,
and anticipation. There are three levels for each emotion, which increase in intensity from the
outside to the inside. A learner may experience dread, fear, or panic; diversion, surprise, or
wonder; or introspection, melancholy, or grief. As a Resources for SEL, this wheel helps students
acquire an emotional vocabulary and more precisely identify their emotions in any given
situation.
19. The Mood Indicator
The Mood Meter is an application that assists students in developing their emotional language,
identifying the source of their emotions, and regulating their emotions. Students plot their present
emotion on a grid using precise descriptions, enter why they think they are experiencing that
emotion, choose a regulatory approach to adjust their emotions, monitor their emotions over
time, and even share their observations with their peers. Students can choose acceptable
reactions to potentially triggering situations by differentiating between varying degrees of emotion
intensity.
20. Class Catalyst
Class Catalyst Resources for SEL seeks to assist each kid in feeling recognized and supported.
The website links children with concerned adults who are available to assist them in
implementing mindfulness practices. Class Catalyst may assist students in establishing rapport
with adults, reaching out for assistance, and deescalating interpersonal problems or stressful
circumstances.
21. The Privilege Walk
The Privilege Walk teaches pupils the nuances of privilege in American culture. Students begin in
a straight line facing the instructor, who reads statements such as “I got a vehicle for my 16th
birthday” and “My parents are married and live in the same house as me.” Students take a step
forward for each applicable statement. As gaps arise amongst pupils, the instructor gives
opportunity for students to debate why these gaps exist and what they may indicate.
22. Positive Penguins
Positive Penguins Resources for SEL helps children build resiliency by illustrating how their bad
emotions come from a lack of control over their ideas. Four positive penguins join children on a
trip to differentiate between ideas and facts, analyze the big picture, visualize potential actions
and consequences, and provide encouragement.
23. Minecraft
Open-world game that encourages exploration, experimenting, creativity, teamwork, and critical
thinking. Students acquire these abilities through creating their own worlds, which strengthens
their knowledge of leadership and society. It has a unique component called Code Builder that
teaches students how to code using JavaScript or code blocks.
24. Peekapak’s
MyPeekaville Resources for SEL, an educational game created by Peekapak, employs
interactive storytelling and a game-based approach to encourage empathy, respect for others,
and self-regulation. Using SEL and literacy skills, students build avatars and engage with
characters in an open environment to solve challenges. When students are studying remotely, it
is very important for teachers to be able to monitor student progress and check in with them on
an emotional level.
