Jeremiah suffers as a prophet delivering messages from God. His message brings derision from others and he wants to stop speaking for God, but cannot due to an inner fire driving him. Paul urges Christians to offer their bodies as living sacrifices to God and not conform to worldly ways. Jesus predicts his suffering, death, and resurrection to disciples. When Peter objects, Jesus rebukes him, saying his thinking is from a human not Godly perspective. Following Jesus requires self-denial and carrying one's own cross.
