This Epistle has been highly esteemed by several learned men of the church of Rome and others. The Quakers have printed a translation and plead for it, as the reader may see, by consulting Poole's Annotations on Col. vi. 16. Sixtus Senensis mentions two MSS., the one in the Sorbonne Library at Paris, which is a very ancient copy, and the other in the Library of Joannes a Viridario, at Padua, which he transcribed and published, and which is the authority for the following translation. There is a very old translation of this Epistle in the British Museum, among the Harleian MSS., Cod. 1212.

Why does evil seem to prosper and good suffer? God showers many blessings on the faithful and unfaithful alike. This may even be a catalyst for development of the good.

Answered from the beginning of time.
Mankind brought in suffering by choosing to

The Epistles of the Bible are all found in the New Testament. They include 21 of the New Testament’s 27 books, extending from Romans to Jude. Thirteen of these Epistles were written by the apostle Paul: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon. Within this group of Pauline Epistles is a subgroup labeled the Prison Epistles (Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon) so-called because they were written during Paul’s two-year house arrest in Rome (Acts 28:30–31). The Pastoral Epistles (1 and 2 Timothy and Titus) were written to church leaders and include many teachings regarding practices within the early church.Following these writings are eight General Epistles (sometimes called Catholic Epistles, since they were written to a “universal” audience) that include Hebrews, James, 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2, and 3 John, and Jude. The author of Hebrews is unknown (though many have historically attributed it to Paul or one of Paul’s associates). James was one of the earliest New Testament writings and was written by James, the half-brother of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:7). The apostle Peter wrote 1 and 2 Peter. The apostle John (the same author of the Gospel of John and Revelation) wrote 1 John, 2 John, and 3 John. The short Epistle of Jude was written by Jude, another half-brother of Jesus (Jude 1:1).All of the known authors of the Epistles are either an apostle (Paul, Peter, John) or a family member of Jesus (James, Jude). Each of these individuals had a unique calling from the Lord Jesus that included writing letters to others. These letters, inspired by the Holy Spirit, are preserved as part of the New Testament’s writings today.Read more:http://www.gotquestions.org/what-is-an-epistle.html#ixzz3eBIfeAM6

God’s perspective on suffering
Directed by Peter to Jews across the world.
The once fearful Peter is now transformed.
He encourages Jews to face suffering with courage and purity.
He strengthens them with positive perspectives on suffering.
He warns of greater suffering for the unsaved.
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-Romans 5:12
Answered from the beginning of time.
Mankind brought in suffering by choosing to disobey God and bring in sin. – Rom 5:12
It was never part of God’s original purpose for mankind. 1 John 1:5
Both God and Satan use the inevitable to meet their objectives.
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-Romans 5:12
Answered from the beginning of time.

It was never part of God’s original purpose for mankind. 1 John 1:5
Both God and Satan use the inevitable to meet their objectives.
Christ also had to suffer to initiate that restoration
6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; Ch 1:6,7……12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, Ch 4
13 Who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled, Ch 3
Conditions
15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; 16 and keep a good conscience…. Ch 3
We often think we are suffering for righteousness when we are actually suffering for the consequences of our own actions
17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, what will become of the godless man and the sinner? Ch 4Judgment is a natural response of a just God on a fallen world. This begins with the house of God but is temporary and will be turned for the good of mankind and glory of God.
Some requirements to best leverage suffering and align it with God’s will are:
Prepare minds for action
Maintain excellent behaviour
honour authority
Abstain from passions
Maintain loving family relationships,
Gentle and quiet spirit for women
Keep tongue from Evil
Seek peace
Resist devil in firm faith,
As new born babes long for spiritual milk
Be stewards,
Have sound judgment,
Have sober spirit
Be ready to defend gospel,
Maintain good conscience,
Live honourably
Acquire purity that results from obedience
Be humble
and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,5

Contrast with Paul’s similar exhortation which is often taken literally. Peter is not opposed to external adornment but mentions that that should not be the only form of adornmant. Precious and imperishable jewelry should be more of a priority.
3 Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; 4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands; Ch 3
7 You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered. Ch 3
A gentle and quiet person in the world’s scheme of things would barely last but appears to be trampled out. However the bible states otherwise. What makes this quality long lasting and imperishable not only in eternal terms but worldly terms? Rebellion is like the sin of divination and arrogance is like the evil of idolatory – 1 Samuel 15:23
जीवित पत्थर के रूप में अस्वीकृति को भुगतना
4 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Ch 2
Suffer Rejection as a Living Stone
What are the spiritual sacrifices we offer – our worship, our bodies (Rom 12:1,2)
चरवाहा के रूप में मसीह के दुख में हिस्सा लें
2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. Ch 5
Suffer as Shepherds
चरवाहा के रूप में मसीह के दुख में हिस्सा लें
As Shepherds we were straying sheep but are now constantly on the look for straying sheep – to bring them back. Suffer as Shepherds

eight persons, were brought safely through the water. 21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Ch 3
22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, Ch 1

“All flesh is like grass,
And all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
And the flower falls off,

as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation. Ch 4
6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7 so that the [d]proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which [e]is perishable,even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, Ch 1
Some people believe that believers need not suffer in any form in this world. What does this book say about it?
What responsibilities do you have as a shepherd and living stone?
What assurance in suffering most encourages you?
How can we “keep on rejoicing” in suffering?
