The "sync pill" can also be used for network sync probing and assurance with minimal footprint and cost.

Together with three key partners, Ficolo, Neos IT Services and Creanord, ADVA conducted a series of industry-first PoCs to demonstrate highly efficient security and performance across every kind of connectivity service. The trials showed how new methods can deliver lower latency, better throughput, improved security and real-time QoS monitoring, when compared to today’s traditional IPSec security. The tests involved three new solutions built on ADVA’s ConnectGuard™ toolkit. They showed how this technology is the key to attracting many more customers to Nordic data centers, whether they are connecting to the cloud, to the data center, or any IT resource.

Case Study: Small Macro Cell Sync Solution
This ITSF 2016 presentation from Djamila Duc looks into field-testing to prove the feasibility and performance of small cells and IP RAN as well as the solutions being developed. A major mobile operator in the Middle East is rapidly deploying this technology and is trying optimize the solution by distributing frequency over high-bit-rate digital subscriber line (HDSL) and IP.
However, reducing the high level of packet delay variation that affects quality is a big challenge. As it is impossible to use SyncE, deep field-testing of Precision Time Protocol over HDSL is required. The adopted solution is a combination that covers the frequency needs for legacy time-division multiplexing and the phase needs for future long-term evolution deployments.
Ensemble Launches Major Upgrade to NFV Platform
Our Ensemble virtualization software suite has been significantly enhanced and optimized for telco-scale NFV deployments. The new release largely focuses on improving the deployability and cost of universal customer premises equipment (uCPE) - still the most prevalent NFV use case. The new features and functions outlined in these slides are a direct result of customer input and our Ensemble team’s experience of multiple real-world NFV deployments.
Proactive Fiber Monitoring in Cable Networks
Proactive fiber monitoring improves service availability, building a strong foundation for extending service offering from residential customers to enterprise connectivity and mobile backhaul. With the ADVA ALM, cable operators gain full visibility of their passive networks so that any fiber degradation is identified even before services are affected. Immediate fault isolation including precise localization of root causes happens in real time without the need for time-consuming onsite visits. This leads to faster repair cycles, which significantly increase customer satisfaction and loyalty. Cable operators can also offer services with higher availability as they maintain their physical fiber infrastructure with a field services team operating more efficiently.
Beyond January 3rd: Operationalization of Timekeeping
At the MiFID II Workshop in London, Ulrich Kohn revealed how financial institutions can simply and efficiently achieve MiFID II compliance. By drawing on essential lessons learned from bringing precise synchronization to mobile networks, he offered sound predictions on the mid-term evolution of timing architectures in financial trading and outlined the optimum route to accurate, traceable and verifiable time synchronization.
ADVA, Acacia and Inphi demo best-in-breed 400ZR DCI solution
Our successful interoperability trial with Acacia Communications and Inphi Corporation shows a clear path to open and programmable DCI networking. It showcased 400Gbit/s transport using our next-generation FSP 3000 DCI open line system as well as low-power 400ZR pluggable QSFP-DD transceivers from Acacia and Inphi. Test results proved that this multi-vendor ecosystem built on best-in-class components exceeds all OIF 400ZR Implementation Agreement performance metrics.
What is the future of traditional SSUs and TSGs?
Chuck Perry’s WSTS presentation discussed the concept of building integrated timing supply (BITS) and explored how maintaining existing synchronization infrastructure has created difficulties for this approach. He looked at modern timing technologies not supported by SSU/TSGs and outlined the urgent need for core clocks capable of supporting both legacy and all new sync technologies for packet networks in a common shelf.

At ECOC 2018 in Rome, we presented a joint demo with our partners that addressed key challenges facing today’s network operators as they look to support emerging 5G use cases such as augmented reality and mission-critical communication. The showcase, which involved pioneering SDN-based Ethernet technology capable of delivering ultra-low and deterministic latency for time-sensitive mobile services, was selected by ECOC judges for as the winner of the Best Demo Award.
NETCONF Call Home
Call Home is an innovative system that enables network functions virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN) in situations where virtual customer premises equipment (vCPE) is protected by a cable modem or a firewall. In this presentation, ADVA Optical Networking’s engineers outlined this new technique and explained how it makes secure NFV/SDN deployment possible when a NETCONF client is otherwise unable to initiate an SSH connection directly to the NETCONF server.
Rajendra Nagabhushan and Vikram Darsi discussed how the IETF draft for NETCONF Call Home Using SSH can be implemented as an OpenDaylight feature. They demonstrated how the technology can be applied in a real-world use-case and outlined how an ADVA Optical Networking product is being developed ahead of its 2017 release.

Power plants release a large amount of water vapor into the
atmosphere through the stack. The flue gas can be a potential
source for obtaining much needed cooling water for a power
plant. If a power plant could recover and reuse a portion of this
moisture, it could reduce its total cooling water intake
requirement. One of the most practical way to recover water
from flue gas is to use a condensing heat exchanger. The power
plant could also recover latent heat due to condensation as well
as sensible heat due to lowering the flue gas exit temperature.
Additionally, harmful acids released from the stack can be
reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation. reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation.
Condensation of vapors in flue gas is a complicated
phenomenon since heat and mass transfer of water vapor and
various acids simultaneously occur in the presence of noncondensable
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. Design of a
condenser depends on the knowledge and understanding of the
heat and mass transfer processes. A computer program for
numerical simulations of water (H2O) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was
developed using MATLAB. Governing equations based on
mass and energy balances for the system were derived to
predict variables such as flue gas exit temperature, cooling
water outlet temperature, mole fraction and condensation rates
of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The equations were solved
using an iterative solution technique with calculations of heat
and mass transfer coefficients and physical properties.
