From our early roots as a paperboard manufacturing company in 1832, Rogers has evolved into a global materials technology leader enabling a wide array of high-technology devices and systems.
Over 50 years ago, virtually all mainframe computers were using Rogers‘ busbars for power distribution. Today, our busbars and other power electronic components are helping distribute power in everything from high-speed trains and electric vehicles to windmills and solar panels.
For over 40 years, our advanced circuit materials have been used in virtually every US space mission and today are connecting the world in network base stations and smart antennas.
We have expanded worldwide, opening our headquarters in Europe in the late 1960’s, and a large manufacturing and logistics campus in China over 10 years ago.
In our core markets, we continue to lead the way with next-generation solutions through our global focus on innovation. We strengthen this focus on innovation with the opening of global innovations centers that work closely with customers in developing the products required for their next generation needs.
From 2014 through 2017, we launched several Rogers Innovation Centers (IC) throughout the US (Boston, MA & Chandler, AZ) and globally in China and Germany.
Rogers is a market leader in solutions for Advanced Mobility and Advanced Connectivity. These growth drivers are our key focus and continue to perform very well, not just in 2019, but beyond.
In the area of POWER, vehicle electrification, EV inverter, converter, battery pack, etc. – or eMobility – is helping the world reduce reliance on fossil fuels and CO2 emissions. A wide range of Rogers’ technologies solve the challenges of these new vehicles and technologies.
Our power electronics solutions solve unique issues for plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles as they have the highest power requirements. In the drive portion of the vehicle, we’ve developed innovative busbars (like our new PowerCircuit™ and Hybrid busbars ) but also customized solutions that distribute the power inside the converter, taking the 18V from the battery and making it 650V. The inverter then takes the 650V DC and makes it into 650V AC to drive the electric motors.
Our busbars distribute the power from the battery to the IGBT or MOSFET based power modules. Our curamik DBC and AMB substrates are where the IGBT’s and MOSFETs are mounted, and our foams can be used to cushion the Power Modules.
Inside the lithium-ion battery case, our foams are used as the separators between the 200 or so lithium ion battery plates providing a constant spring force and cushioning for 10-15 years.
Additionally, the case enclosing these cells is sealed with our chemically resistant silicone foams.
The global market for industrial automation continues to grow as manufacturers seek new, innovative ways to improve productivity and efficiency. At the heart of this growth, variable speed motor drives are a key enabler to the efficiency and reliability of automation systems, helping reduce energy consumption of industrial motors by over 30%. These drives rely on power electronics and utilize our ceramic substrates and busbars to help increase their efficiency.
For solar and wind POWER, Rogers’ materials help enable the efficiency and performance of the applications. Our busbars are used in Wind Turbines and Solar Systems to distribute the power to the IGBT modules and our ceramic substrates are used at the chip level for the IGBT’s themselves. In addition, our silicone foams are often used for sealing of outdoor control boxes and for environmental sealing in the wind turbines and solar panels.
Our products help with POWER distribution for the traction motors inside today’s high-speed trains, in marine applications and off highway vehicles. Our ROLINX® busbars distribute 3500 or more volts and 1000 amps to and from the IGBT clusters that switch the power.
In addition, our Arlon silicones are used as coil insulation materials for traction motors. Silicone’s unique chemical backbone provides the foundation for Arlon’s coil insulation products, which meet the toughest service requirements.
Now we move to the area of PROTECTION, which includes a wide variety of safety and protection applications.
Automotive Safety systems are growing in popularity and importance as automakers seek to increase safety features. Reliability of these systems is critical. New cars are equipped increasingly with robust crash avoidance systems that use sensor technologies like radar to detect collision, helping drivers arrive safe and relaxed to their destination. Rogers is the world’s technology and market leader in circuit materials that enable 24 GHz and 77 GHz radar sensor applications in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Rogers materials are built upon a legacy of excellence in quality and reliability and enable the radar sensor to achieve the highest performance in all weather conditions.
In addition, Rogers’ elastomeric materials are used in a wide variety of applications throughout today’s vehicles to enhance passenger comfort and safety by reducing vibration, noise and shock.
Protecting and improving the passenger experience has become increasingly important for airlines and passenger rail systems around the world. Our silicone materials are used in both planes and trains for passenger safety and comfort because of their flame resistance and lack of toxicity. These high performance materials meet stringent flame and toxic smoke requirements and have many applications from vibration management in control panels, sidewall and ceiling liners, seat cushions and floors.
Our high performance foams seal and PROTECT the mobile devices that keep us connected every day. With all the smart phones and tablets dropped every day around the world, did you ever wonder why they seldom break? The secret is our PORON® urethane foams. They are the industry standard for mobile device cushioning and sealing – used as a seal to protect the display from dust, moisture and impact, and as cushions for the speaker, microphone, camera and other sensitive components throughout the device.
We have been the technology and market leader for device cushioning and sealing throughout the history of the industry, and continue to collaborate closely with the world’s most innovative device makers to introduce a steady stream of new products to address next generation needs as these devices become larger and more complex.
Our Arlon Silicone materials are used as dielectric insulation for wire and foil flexible heaters that are critical for a wide array of applications for commercial and industrial safety, including keeping food at exactly the right temperature in food holding and warming cabinets. Other applications include heaters used for:
Warming medical equipment like blood analyzers, respiratory therapy units and hydrotherapy baths
