Ecommerce is a new industry. Non-the-less the pace at which the industry evolves is higher than most others. At the same time, the impact of ecommerce on the overall economy is immense and

Over the last decade e-commerce has become the main driver of innovation and growth in the retail industry. Amazon kicked of in 1994 selling on a proprietary system, which was typical for the era. In the
late nineties premade Shopping Cart Systems became more common lead by Intershop, Hybris, GS1. Beginning of 2000 the first Open Source Systems took over with OSCommerce leading the way, which
was followed by XT-Commerce to almost completely being replaced by Magento following it’s launch in 2009 and the Prestashop in 2011, only to see Cloud Systems like Shopify take the rains recently.
During 2 decades the whole Ecommerce Industry has changed leading systems every 4-5 years already and this is only speeding up.
Ecommerce is currently in a process of taking over normal Retail with Square and other modern POS Systems. On top a new Marketplace launching every 2 weeks and Mobile Commerce Systems
allowing selling directly from any App the Omni Channel Experience is once again unratling the pecking order.
Never has there been so many channels to sell your products through and this is not slowing down. Merchants cannot rarely survive by keeping to a single channel anymore. This has meant a steady
growth in the number of multichannel solutions that help merchants operate with sales happening on a multitude of channels.
