The document summarizes an upcoming 5k swim/fundraiser in Tampa Bay to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation. The event honors Navy SEALs who lost their lives and supports their families. Participants and volunteers want to give back to the families who have sacrificed the most. The swim across Tampa Bay in January is challenging due to cold water temperatures and hazards like sharks, jellyfish, and storms. Funds raised will provide assistance to families of wounded or killed SEALs, including funeral expenses, memorial services, childcare, education costs, and more. The goal is to raise $500,000 for the Navy SEAL Foundation at the 2016 Tampa Bay Frogman Swim event.

I've worked with the Columbus Botanical Garden for years, handling everything from PR to web design to copywriting. When they asked me to redesign their newsletter, I was thrilled. This quarterly newsletter reaches the garden's most dedicated following — so they needed to be able to get info at a glance. For this redesign, I focused on chunked content that's easy to skim, for modern readers dealing with information overload. I kept the layout open, clean and bright to match their brand.

How to talk about California's marine protected areas onlineRachel Dearborn
Upwell researched how people talk about California's marine protected areas online to learn what drives conversation and understand how to better engage Californians in paying attention to protected ocean resources.
Our findings show that most conversation about marine protected areas is educational in nature, but the content that drives conversation is celebratory and connects humans to marine resources. Talking about wildlife, explaining how MPAs work, and connecting with recreational and tourist activities helps increase attention.
We also learned that there is a big opportunity for advocates, ocean managers and educators to tap into local conversations to curate content, find new audiences and connect with local businesses that can serve as brand ambassadors for marine protected areas and marine reserves.
While conversation volume about California's marine protected areas is relatively low, there is a big opportunity to increase attention and impact through creative and targeted communication strategies.
You can view the recording of our August 2014 presentation of our research and recommendations at https://cc.readytalk.com/cc/playback/Playback.do?id=26b7r3.
Special thanks to the Resources Legacy Fund for their great work in establishing and protecting CA marine protected areas, and for making this research possible.
The Grassroots Outreach Program is administered through the North American Safe Boating Campaign: Wear It!
Every year, the campaign designates resources to be used for Grassroots efforts around North America.
The recipients apply for resources and are chosen by a selection committee using a scoring rubric.
In 2016, 20 recipients were selected and while most of their efforts took place from May to September, some are ongoing. Read on and join us as we celebrate their successes!

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
