The document summarizes the story of a three-legged puppy named Faith and how she was trained to walk on her hind legs like a human. It describes how Reuben brought the puppy home and she was unable to use her deformed front leg. The family took her to a vet who suggested putting her down, but the children wanted to try training her. Through months of practice using a skateboard and rewarding her with food, Faith was eventually able to balance and take steps on her hind legs. Faith became famous and inspired many people, including a woman in a wheelchair who was feeling despair but was uplifted after seeing Faith walk.

One day Reuben, my eldest son, came home with a puppy he got from his friend.
The dog, a female, had only three legs: two fully developed hind legs and a deformed
left front leg.
When she looked straight up into my eyes, I knew that I had to help her.
I took the dog to an animal hospital with my children, and asked the animal doctor for
help.
The doctor said that even attaching a wheelchair to the front legs would not work,
since it would be too difficult for her to turn around.
The doctor advised us to put her down.
When I asked the doctor about another way to help her, she carefully considered the
question.
The doctor gave us one idea.
It was to get the puppy to stand on her hind legs and lead her to walk like a human
being.
There were no cases of anyone successfully getting a dog to walk that way.
Still all my children said they would try to train the puppy to do it.
When I said it would be pretty hard, Laura, my eldest daughter, said, “I know that.
We have to believe she will be able to walk.
We need to have faith.”
At my daughter’s suggestion, we named the puppy Faith to give her hope and
2. determination.
There were a lot of difficulties, but we continued Faith’s training-with faith-day after
day, we put her on a skateboard so that she could feel movement.
We also tempted her to stand up and jump by holding a spoonful of peanut butter in
front of her so she could try to lick it.
One day, I had a new idea.
My children and I went out and put Faith in the snow by herself and began to play
together as happily as possible.
I thoughtthat she would hate to be aloneand that she might come over to the children.
We played and waited.
It was a long, hard wait, not only for her but also for us.
Then, amazingly, she looked straight at us and stood up on her hind legs.
Then she took a step towards us.
It was just a small step, but it was the first step of great faith.
After training for several months, she learned to balance on her hind legs and to walk
without any help.
She could now walk like a human being.
Faith was soon famous.
She received a lot of requests to appear on local TV news shows, and she came to have
a dramatic influence on people.
Caroline, a New Yorker who was confined to a wheelchair because of diabetes, lost the
will to live.
She was in despair and wanted to die.
One day, on her way to a shop, just by chance Caroline saw Faith on the sidewalk.
3. Faith was in New York for a TV program.
