The play Esu and the Vagabond Minstrels by Femi Osofisan tells the story of four itinerant musicians who are deprived of their livelihood by a new government. Struggling with hunger, they attempt to steal offerings left for Esu, the Yoruba god of fate, but are trapped by Esu. Esu promises to help them if they use his magical powers to help those in need, demanding only a moral reward. All but one musician, Omele, exploit people's misfortunes for personal gain. In the end, Esu punishes the greedy musicians and rewards Omele's selfless acts of compassion. The play criticizes greed and materialism,
