What is Comprestimator?
 Used to estimate compression and thin provisioning savings of a volume
 Minimal impact system load, fast, accurate
 Free to download from IBM website
 External (host based) CLI tool

Comprestimator integration key points
 Keep host IO uninterrupted
 Minimal impact system load, fast, accurate
– Up to 8 concurrent IO
– Usually <1 minute, could be few minutes on loaded system
– <5% error margin (same as CLI)
 Deployed as part of SVC
– Does not require compression license
– Does not start RACE (RtC compression engine) – saves resources for host IO
 Same algorithm as host based tool (so same results are expected)

Interface
 Schedule a volume or all volumes for estimation
– Volumes are estimated in vdisk-id order
– One volume per node at a given time
– Starts immediately (unless otherwise engaged)
– Schedule all volumes in system
 Display estimation results
– All volumes output
– Single volume output
 Cancel volume(s) scheduled or ongoing estimation
– Remove volume(s) from estimation queue or try to abort an ongoing estimation
 Display estimated completion time
