Editor's Notes

  • #3 Richard: Thank you, Lisa. This November, prepare to embark on the quest of a lifetime! The 2014 National Fall Leadership Conferences (NFLCs) will spark your passion for FBLA-PBL. With a day and a half of dynamic workshops offering multiple opportunities to attend per hour, you can prepare to Step Up to the Challenge at your spring competitions. You’ll also hear from our motivational keynote speakers, and have an opportunity to visit exhibits for information about universities and colleges, new technologies, and fundraising opportunities. Advisers, emphasize to your students the importance of participating in conference activities to the fullest extent. Schedule a meeting after you arrive at the conference and distribute programs and materials to students. Then review the conference program in detail. Lisa, back to you.
  • #4 LISA: Once again this year we are offering exclusive State Officer series of workshops hosted by your FBLA and PBL National Officer teams from 8:00 a.m. – 12 Noon on the Saturday at each NFLC site. State Officers will kick off their morning with greetings from a Professional Division National Officer, National Officer Program of Work Briefings, and introduction of the State Officer Teams present. Topics covered will include: A Leader’s Guide to Energizing Members with National Programs Step Up to Sponsorship Success Share Tables Image is Everything It’s a Digital Meet your National Officers and other State Officers at each NFLC site at a special Meet and Greet Networking Reception on Friday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. where teams will have the opportunity to exchange state pins. Advisers: If your chapter has a state officer, encourage them to take advantage of this special track. Now here’s Richard to talk about keynote speakers.
  • #5 Richard: We have a great lineup of Keynote speakers for our NFLCs. Josh Shipp will be the Opening Session Keynote speaker at all three NFLC locations. He’s been referred to as “The Teen Whisperer”. He is a former at-risk foster kid turned teen advocate. His TV series “Teen Trouble” (on A&E and Lifetime) documented hid work with teens in crisis. Hoan Do will be the Closing Session Keynote speaker at all three NFLCs. He’s a student success coach, author, and competitor in ABC’s hit show, American Ninja Warrior. Hoan’s engaging style and ability to share important life lessons in a way that resonates with his audiences More details on our keynote speakers is available on our web site.
  • #6 Richard: Don’t forget that we have deadlines coming soon for each of the three conference locations. If you want so save a little on your conference registration fees then October 10, 17, and 25 are dates to remember. This is when the early bird conference registration fees will end. Online registration for the NFLCs is available at www.fbla-pbl.org/2014NFLC. Payment can be made by check or credit card. Credit cards that are accepted include Discover, American Express, VISA, or Mastercard. If you are sending in your payment, send it in with your completed registration form to: FBLA-PBL NLC registration P.O. Box 79130 Baltimore, MD 21279-0130.
  • #7 Richard: Other deadlines are coming up… Hotel reservations should be made as soon as possible. Space fills fast as the conferences approach so get your reservations in today! Reservation forms are found on page 11 of the Conference Guide. They are also available on the National Web site. A deposit of one night’s lodging, plus tax per room must accompany the form. Reservations will not be made without a deposit. Credit cards will not be charged until arrival. When you arrive, hotel check-in time is 3:00 p.m. If you plan to arrive earlier than the check-in time, your hotel will make every effort to assign as many rooms as possible. A luggage storage area will be provided at each hotel for groups arriving prior to check-in time. To minimize confusion in the hotel lobby, one FBLA adviser or PBL representative must register the entire delegation. Have copies of your original reservation with you. Check out time is noon at all conference hotels. One adviser or representative must check out, turn in keys, and pay room bills for the entire delegation. The hotel will provide one bill for each room occupied. Now here’s Beau to provide you more information about the NFLCs.
  • #8 Beau: Thanks, Richard. Each Hotel offers reasonable dining options – And within walking distance of each are a lot of dining and shopping options. Check them out on our website (www.fbla-pbl.org) in advance so you can take advantage of inexpensive dining while at the conference. Advisers, make sure to discuss expenses and help students determine how much spending money they will need for food, entertainment, and souvenirs. Meals are not included in the conference registration fee.
  • #9 Beau: At the conference in New Orleans we will have a special FBLA- Middle Level Academy. Each series of workshops will focus on financial literacy, leadership, and teambuilding activities. Check our website for further details abut unique workshops designed especially for FBLA-Middle Level members and advisers.
  • #10 Beau: Also at the New Orleans conference, we are piloting a new PBL program, PBL Pathways. The 2014-15 Phi Beta Lambda National Officer Team is proud to present the PBL Pathways Program designed to provide a personalized experience for PBL members attending the NFLC in New Orleans. This pilot program is geared towards providing PBL members a competitive edge before entering the workforce. The program is divided into three pathways: Personal Finance, Entrepreneurship and Leadership with corresponding workshops taught by students and industry professionals. The team is excited for PBL members to experience this unique opportunity! The Personal Finance Pathway will be filled with engaging workshops discussing topics relevant to college students in preparation for entering the workforce! The Entrepreneurship Pathway is an exciting set of workshops geared towards educating PBL members about the start-up process and the rewards and challenges of being your own boss! The Leadership Pathway is designed to provide you with a range of practical skills and knowledge you need to lead your PBL chapter this year!
