The document summarizes the agenda and logistics for the "Long Hot Summer" conference on trauma and emergency care taking place on March 8-9, 2013 in Minneapolis. The two-day conference will feature presentations from leaders in emergency care on topics such as airway management, pelvic trauma, pediatric emergencies, and street drugs. It will also include hands-on learning sessions and a keynote on recognizing child abuse. Social activities include a band performance and snacks on Friday evening. Attendees can reserve rooms at a special rate at the conference hotel.
This document describes the design process for a medical workstation for free clinics in remote areas. It discusses observations of Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps providing volunteer medical services in mountainous regions of Miaoli, Taiwan. The design aims to provide portable medical equipment for volunteer medical teams and promote access to healthcare. The medical workstation is intended to address issues like the inconvenience of carrying equipment into remote areas and the lack of a complete workspace. It seeks to improve medical care and respond to specific treatment needs in remote community clinics.
The document discusses the work of the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers in providing clinical care coordination and outreach for complex patients. It outlines the goals of stabilizing patients, coordinating their care, improving their health, and reducing costs. It describes the tenets of providing a team-based approach, enrolling patients based on risk factors, engaging patients early, and developing individualized care plans. The document provides examples of how staff are paired to address different levels of patient medical and social complexity. It also gives a case study of a patient with multiple chronic conditions who was enrolled in their program and benefited from a home-based medication reconciliation intervention.

This document discusses gravitational field strength and its relationship to gravitational force. It defines gravitational field strength as the force per unit mass and gives the equation g = -GM/r^2 for the gravitational field strength of a point mass. It explains that the gravitational field strength on Earth is approximately 9.81 N/kg and decreases with distance from the Earth's center according to this inverse square relationship. The document also notes that inside the Earth, gravitational field strength is only due to mass closer than one's position to the center.

The document discusses the benefits of meditation for reducing stress and anxiety. Regular meditation practice can help calm the mind and body by lowering heart rate and blood pressure. Making meditation a part of a daily routine, even if just 10-15 minutes per day, can have mental and physical health benefits over time by helping people feel more relaxed and better able to handle life's stresses.
The document provides details on the design plans for a magazine cover and interior pages. Key elements to be included are a bold masthead, main image of a young artist to appeal to the target audience, and the artist's name across the main image. Additional elements are a banner, barcode, page numbers down the left side, note from the editor, and keeping consistent colors throughout. Design elements from magazines like NME, Q, and We Love Pop will be incorporated, such as different font colors and a quote over the main article image.

The document discusses triage and disaster nursing. It defines triage as a method of quickly sorting victims during a mass casualty incident to identify those with life-threatening injuries who need treatment first. It describes the START triage system and categories (red, yellow, green, black). Effective triage nurses are clinically experienced with good judgment, leadership, and knowledge of available resources. Disaster nursing involves preparing for, responding to, and recovering from various types of disasters through coordinated plans and protocols.

This document discusses disaster triage and managing mass casualty incidents. It defines a mass casualty incident as an event that overwhelms local medical resources. The goal of disaster triage is to save the largest number of survivors. Different types of triage are discussed, including primary triage on scene and secondary triage during transport or at the hospital. The START triage protocol is presented, which codes patients as immediate, delayed, or expectant based on airway, breathing, circulation, and mental status. The document reviews pediatric triage and the SMART tag triage system. Scenarios are provided to practice triaging multiple patients from a simulated mass casualty event. The goal of disaster triage training is to increase
In the United States, current best practices for potential victims of stroke focus on the goals of rapid EMS triage of, transport to and treatment at Primary Stroke Centers. This session will address the following questions:
-What is the best EMS Stroke Care Model to accomplish this?
-Is there only one “Best Model”?
-How do models compare with other systems in neighboring states and elsewhere in the U.S.?
-What aspects of these other models might be adapted by EMS care systems to improve stroke care?

David Thorne, CEO of Newcastle West CCG, discussed the challenges and opportunities for clinical commissioning groups in shaping local healthcare. He outlined the CCG's responsibilities to identify local health needs, meet national priorities, commission services through performance-managed contracts, and maintain budgets and public confidence in the NHS. Thorne also described Newcastle West CCG's population as aging with high dependency on benefits and life expectancies comparable to developing nations. Key health issues included cancers, heart disease, and COPD. The presentation emphasized using local data and engaging with patients, providers and other stakeholders to design effective local care pathways.
Acs0701 Initial Management Of Life Threatening Traumamedbookonline
This document outlines the initial management of life-threatening trauma. It discusses prehospital care including interventions on scene to control bleeding and protect the spine. It recommends transporting critically injured patients directly to a Level I or II trauma center. In the emergency department, it describes arriving under active cardiopulmonary resuscitation and evaluating for a resuscitative thoracotomy. It provides guidelines for terminating resuscitation based on mechanism of injury, duration of CPR, and presence of asystole.
