What are the iAwards?

day to day activities is celebrated by the iAwards each year.

The iAwards program's goal is to provide business, industry and government
with a clear view of the people leading ICT in Australia and the quality of
   innovation being produced.

National company winners go on to compete with the best in the Asia Pacific
region making the iAwards the only truly international awards program delivered

Judging Process: Group Categories

     • Judging begins at the state and territory level.
     • Judging at state and territory level will be based on your online submission
       form and your supporting material.
     • State winners are then identified in each category.
     • State winners will be revealed at state presentation events in June.
     • All state winners then go on to compete at the national level.
     • Judging at the national level will require a presentation to be made to a
judging panel in Melbourne on the 5 or 6 August.
     • The national awards presentation and gala dinner will be held in Melbourne
       on 8 August.

Hints from past Judges
 Written Entry. Be clear, concise and answer the questions.
 Stick to word limit. Simple yet hard to do so edit wisely.
 Criteria Ensure you demonstrate each of the specific
criteria in your responses as this is what the judges have to
                  score against.
 Reference material. These can consist of anything from
product brochures, referee statements, a video about your
product or any other material that supports your nomination.
 Photos. Include photos that illustrate your solution in action
not just screen grabs or use case scenario diagrams.
 Highlight your innovation as this is after all what the
iAwards is looking to showcase so don’t bury it in a
                  marketing spiel.

  Health 2012 winner HealthKit (VIC)
National Winner & State Winner (VIC) HealthKit - the global health
community for patients, practitioners and people everywhere

“We learnt a lot through the iAwards application process. It forced us to
work through a lot of things and really look at what we were doing and
what we were about. When you are in a start-up business, you tend to
spend a lot of time ‘in’ the business and the iAwards process enabled us
                      to focus ‘on’ the business.”

“For us, the real benefit of our iAwards win came afterwards. It has
basically enabled us to show that the people who really understand
health IT have considered us to be the best health technology in
Australia, with the potential to disrupt the health industry globally.
The iAwards win also gives us a lot of credibility and has led to people
knowing who we are and what we do. It has given us a foot in the door
and has helped us in terms of our media and PR goals. It’s also helped
attract employees who want to work with us as they believe in what we
                      are trying to do.”

  Education 2012 winner Avalias (NSW)
National Winner & State Winner (NSW), - Avalias
for Avalanche ST Scenario Training System

“We are finding that our iAwards win has become a
very good talking point with both existing customers
and potential customers alike. We have seen our
revenue increase since the win. While we can’t
directly attribute this to the iAwards win, we really do
feel that it has had a positive effect on our business.
We’ve also found that closing contracts has become
a lot easier than it was before.”

“It’s as though the iAwards recognition gives us that
extra dot of the ‘i’ and the cross of the ‘t’. Potential
customers are now looking at the fact that we’ve
been recognised at a national level, assessed by
respected members of the industry and have won an

A few words of advice for anyone considering entering
      the 2013 iAwards program.

“You should paint the vision. Let people know that your business is not
just about making money, but that it’s about doing well, while doing
good. There are so many businesses out there that fit into this category
across a wide range of sectors - and the iAwards really connects people
with the power and potential of technology.”

Winner of the 2012 National iAward for Health (VIC)
HealthKit, Managing Director and co-founder Alison Hardacre

“I would say to anyone that it’s important to focus on four key areas when you start
the iAwards application process. Firstly, you need to make sure you have an
excellent product or service and that it can really stand up to the test. Then, make
sure you read the iAwards criteria and guidelines very carefully and answer
                           everything that is asked.”

“It’s important to invest the time and effort into making sure you create a solid
application, there’s little point entering if you are just going to throw something
together for your entry. Then, if you do make it to the National stage and have to
present to the panel, I’d encourage people to make sure that they are extremely
                           well prepared,” he noted.

  • 10. Hints from past Judges  Written Entry. Be clear, concise and answer the questions.  Stick to word limit. Simple yet hard to do so edit wisely.  Criteria Ensure you demonstrate each of the specific criteria in your responses as this is what the judges have to score against.  Reference material. These can consist of anything from product brochures, referee statements, a video about your product or any other material that supports your nomination.  Photos. Include photos that illustrate your solution in action not just screen grabs or use case scenario diagrams.  Highlight your innovation as this is after all what the iAwards is looking to showcase so don’t bury it in a marketing spiel. • 11. Winner’s Stories Tips from past winners  Focus on the outcomes not the technology itself  Make the most of the experience  Leverage the win to GROW Host Partners Major Partner
  • 12. Tips from past winners… Health 2012 winner HealthKit (VIC) National Winner & State Winner (VIC) HealthKit - the global health community for patients, practitioners and people everywhere “We learnt a lot through the iAwards application process. It forced us to work through a lot of things and really look at what we were doing and what we were about. When you are in a start-up business, you tend to spend a lot of time ‘in’ the business and the iAwards process enabled us to focus ‘on’ the business.” “For us, the real benefit of our iAwards win came afterwards. It has basically enabled us to show that the people who really understand health IT have considered us to be the best health technology in Australia, with the potential to disrupt the health industry globally. The iAwards win also gives us a lot of credibility and has led to people knowing who we are and what we do. It has given us a foot in the door and has helped us in terms of our media and PR goals. It’s also helped attract employees who want to work with us as they believe in what we are trying to do.” Video, Website and Profile Host Partners Major Partner
  • 13. Tips from past winners… Education 2012 winner Avalias (NSW) National Winner & State Winner (NSW), - Avalias for Avalanche ST Scenario Training System “We are finding that our iAwards win has become a very good talking point with both existing customers and potential customers alike. We have seen our revenue increase since the win. While we can’t directly attribute this to the iAwards win, we really do feel that it has had a positive effect on our business. We’ve also found that closing contracts has become a lot easier than it was before.” “It’s as though the iAwards recognition gives us that extra dot of the ‘i’ and the cross of the ‘t’. Potential customers are now looking at the fact that we’ve been recognised at a national level, assessed by respected members of the industry and have won an iAward,” Winner of the 2012 National iAward for e-Learning, NSW company, Avalias CEO, Harold Wolpert Host Partners Major Partner Video, Website and Profile
  • 14. A few words of advice for anyone considering entering the 2013 iAwards program. “You should paint the vision. Let people know that your business is not just about making money, but that it’s about doing well, while doing good. There are so many businesses out there that fit into this category across a wide range of sectors - and the iAwards really connects people with the power and potential of technology.” Winner of the 2012 National iAward for Health (VIC) HealthKit, Managing Director and co-founder Alison Hardacre “I would say to anyone that it’s important to focus on four key areas when you start the iAwards application process. Firstly, you need to make sure you have an excellent product or service and that it can really stand up to the test. Then, make sure you read the iAwards criteria and guidelines very carefully and answer everything that is asked.” “It’s important to invest the time and effort into making sure you create a solid application, there’s little point entering if you are just going to throw something together for your entry. Then, if you do make it to the National stage and have to present to the panel, I’d encourage people to make sure that they are extremely well prepared,” he noted.
