South Central Region, Louisiana
Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Houma Terrebonne Civic Center, 346 Civic Center Boulevard, Houma, LA 70360
WHAT IS TRAFFIC SAFETY SUMMIT?
Traffic Safety Summit is an educational and interactive conference organized by the South
Central Safe Community Partnership (SCSCP), which is a coalition of law enforcement,
government, health, education, business, non-profit groups, and community-based agencies
from the Parishes of Assumption, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist
and Terrebonne. These agencies work collaboratively towards reducing roadway fatalities
through the 4 E’s of safety (Education, Enforcement, Engineering and Emergency medical
services), and address safety-related issues of the South Central Region. The SCSCP was
established in October 1999 through the Safe Communities grant from Louisiana Highway
Safety Commission (LHSC). It is administered by the South Central Planning and Develop-
ment Commission (SCPDC) in Gray, LA.
This photo shows last year’s summit at NSU.
Our priorities for 2012 are:
Impaired Driving
Occupant Protection
Young Drivers
Infrastructure & Operations
(Roadway Departure and
Intersection Safety)
WHAT ARE OUR SUMMIT OBJECTIVES?
 Increase awareness on traffic safety issues in the South Central Region
 Assess the latest data and analyze current situations of transportation safety practices
to provide a baseline for future directions
 Provide an interactive forum for law enforcement officers, health & safety practitioners,
government leaders, safe community coordinators, transportation professionals and
safety advocates to review, evaluate and develop new ideas to improve urban and rural
traffic safety
 Encourage more participation from private businesses, educational institutions and
youth sectors to campaign against underage drinking, drunk driving, reckless driving
and texting while driving
 Reinforce collaborative efforts, expand current local safety programs and embark on
innovative approaches to improve traffic safety in local communities
