Two research studies revealed data about the Nebraska Forest Service's annual economic impact and Nebraskans' knowledge of trees and forests. The first study estimated that the NFS programs contribute over $34 million to the economy annually and generate an additional dollar in benefits for every dollar invested. Another study found that while Nebraskans have positive views of trees, they want more information on topics like identifying pests and diseases, drought effects, and how to care for trees properly. Both homeowners and landowners desire knowledge on selecting suitable trees to establish and enhance property values.
