Christmas traditions in Catalonia include preparing a nativity scene before Christmas Day and moving the figurines of the Three Wise Men closer each day. On Christmas Day, families have a large meal together and exchange gifts. Another tradition is hitting a log called "Tió" which is said to give out gifts like candy and toys. On January 6th, Epiphany, the Three Wise Men are said to visit homes and leave more presents if children were good.
The photographs show children at school. The dialog introduces three children, Ann, Jane, and Steve, who are meeting on the first day of the new school year. Ann and Jane discuss their summer holidays, with Ann traveling around Ukraine and Jane visiting the seaside and her grandparents in London. Steve feels ready to start the school year marathon but also sees it as just lessons. Ann reminds them that school is about more than just lessons and is also a time to learn friendship and life skills.
Christmas is celebrated on December 25th. Popular symbols include Christmas trees decorated with ornaments and lights, wreaths hung on doors, and poinsettia flowers. Traditions include sending Christmas cards, shopping at stores and malls in November, hanging stockings by the fireplace, leaving cookies and milk for Santa, and opening gifts on Christmas morning. Families enjoy decorating their homes with lights and decorations.
Christmas is celebrated annually on December 25th to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. While the actual date of his birth is uncertain, Christmas was established in the 4th century by the Catholic Church to coincide with pre-existing pagan winter solstice festivals. The traditions and customs associated with Christmas vary around the world, with some opening presents on different days like St. Nicholas' Eve or Epiphany and others celebrating with special Christmas meals that feature foods native to their country.
