The Scientist magazine and SciVee announced the winners of the first annual Scientist Video Awards. There were four winners divided into two categories: individual and institutional. The individual judges' winner was Tom McFadden for "Synaptic Cleft" and the institutional judges' winner was The Wellcome Trust for "Tree of Life". The individual audience winner was Marita Davison and Jennifer Moslemi for "Fencing Flamingos" and the institutional audience winner was Amgen for "Pioneering New Frontiers in Tumor Angiogenesis". The winning videos showcased a variety of scientific topics and styles and demonstrated that short videos can effectively communicate science.
