This was a professional development session for Virginia Tech's Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education. With today’s technology, much of our work can travel with us wherever we go, eliminating the natural boundaries of a work day or work week. The pressure to excel can be all-consuming, leaving many in search of the elusive “work/life balance.” In this presentation, Dr. Eric Kaufman highlights insights from tragic events in his family that directed him to key opportunities for integrating, juggling, and prioritizing various demands on time. Kaufman is a tenured professor and Extension specialist at Virginia Tech, where he teaches and studies leadership in the Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education. Because there is no magic formula, Eric will draw upon the scholarship associated with work/life balance and invite participants to share their own insights and challenges for discussion. Although Kaufman’s experience is within an academic career, the strategies he highlights are relevant for professionals in a variety of settings.
This document discusses the concept of time and provides tips for effective time management. It states that time is a universal concept that measures chronology and duration but is also an illusion. The document emphasizes that time is a convertible and irretrievable resource that is equivalent to both money and life, and there are only three things one can do with their time: waste it, invest it, or spend it. It provides practical tips for time management, such as reflection on where one is coming from and where they are going, prioritizing activities, and creating and reviewing a timetable. The overarching message is that one must make the most of their time by investing it wisely.
This document summarizes Stephen Covey's 7 Habits book about habit #3, "Put First Things First". It discusses time management and prioritization. The key points are: 1) Habit #3 is about deciding your most important priorities or "compass" rather than just reacting to urgent tasks; 2) It identifies four quadrants for tasks based on their importance and urgency - the goal is to focus on important but not urgent quadrant 2 tasks; 3) Procrastination is the main block to habit #3, leading to stress, while prioritizing leads to excellence.
Creative Mornings Houston June 2014 - MinimalKelsey Ruger
The document discusses finding balance through minimalism to maximize creativity. It argues that minimalism is not about having less but about uncovering meaning. It recommends practicing creative habits like balancing exploration and execution to access creativity. Specifically, it suggests three ways to practice minimalism: be human, rethink opposites, and shift simplicity. Practicing minimalism in this way through habits can lead to more freedom, creativity, and happiness.

This document outlines laws of productivity presented by Scott Odigie. It begins by defining productivity and efficiency, noting that productivity measures how efficiently inputs are converted to useful outputs. It then lists 20 laws of productivity, such as developing daily goals, starting each day or activity with focus on God, mastering self-limitations, starting small, being accountable, maximizing optimal periods, avoiding perfectionism, saying no to distractions, keeping fit, and rewarding yourself. The purpose is to provide insights on how to squeeze more out of each day and be more efficient with one's time and efforts.

Introduction to leadership development 2022.pptxKennethNwakanma2
This document discusses leadership development and personal leadership. It defines leadership as a social influence process that maximizes others' efforts to achieve goals. Personal leadership is important, as you cannot lead others if you cannot lead yourself. Personal leadership involves developing technical skills, cultivating the right attitude towards people through interdependence and service, and working on psychological self-mastery through self-control, self-discipline, and developing consistency through habits and goal setting. Self-mastery affects the mind, emotions, and will. Overall personal leadership is about leading oneself first in order to effectively lead others.
Eat that Frog!
Learn how to stop procrastinating high value tasks that can move your life forward. This book discusses the importance of goal setting, creative procrastination, time management and creating priority ranking for all of your tasks.
This slideshow is a comprehensive overview of Brian Tracy's book Eat That Frog! The basic premise of Eat That Frog is that we should focus on the highest payback, least-appealing task of the day FIRST, before anything else. He asserts that "your ability to select your most important task at each moment, and then to start on that task and get it done both quickly and well, will probably have more of an impact on your success than any other quality or skill you can develop!”
According to the author, an average person who masters this one technique will run circles around a genius who talks a lot and makes wonderful plans, but gets very little done. (I know somebody like this, don’t you?)
Furthermore, he says that "The ability to concentrate on this one important task, single-mindedly, to do it well, and to finish it completely is the key to great success, achievement, status and happiness in life.”
Let's all go eat that frog!
I love Brian Tracy's use of quotes in the book, and have included many of them in the slideshow.
If you're looking to be more productive, stop procrastinating the important stuff (We can all use less procrastination, right?), start procrastinating more creatively (I like the sound of that!), and reach the goals you have yet to attain, I highly recommend utilizing this information!

This document discusses the importance of developing a "leverage mindset" to continuously improve one's earning potential. It recommends modeling the behaviors and habits of successful people in one's field to efficiently learn and integrate skills. Ultra-productive people focus on minutes rather than hours, dedicate their mornings to their most important tasks without interruptions, and schedule all tasks on a calendar rather than using to-do lists. They also practice consistent morning routines, process emails only a few times per day, say "no" to almost everything, delegate as much as possible, and touch each item only once to reduce stress and work more efficiently. Maintaining energy levels is also key to productivity.
The document provides 5 rules for achieving success and greatness. Rule 1 advises avoiding distractions and taking time for oneself in the morning. Rule 2 says excuses will not lead to genius and past failures do not prevent future success. 1) Entrepreneurs have a growth mindset focused on taking action and creating change rather than avoiding risk. Anyone can be an entrepreneur if they commit to pursuing opportunities.
2) Limiting beliefs can prevent people from achieving their potential, but having the right mindset of possibility, ability, and worthiness can help people accomplish goals they previously thought impossible.
