A survey of over 200 UK local councils found that most believe local governments have a role to play in international development. Nearly half of the councils surveyed are currently involved in such activities. Common reasons for involvement include sharing skills and good practices, improving working relations, providing staff development and motivation opportunities, and strengthening the international profile of the local government. Resources provided through the Local Government Alliance website aim to support interaction and knowledge sharing between councils engaged in international development work.
