Hydraulics is the study of the mechanical properties of liquids. Hydraulic systems use liquids to transmit force and motion through pressurized lines and cylinders. By taking advantage of Pascal's law, which states that pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is transmitted equally in all directions, hydraulic systems can multiply force to lift heavy loads or provide large amounts of clamping force with little physical effort.
