Problem Statement
Several adults struggle from a variety of mental health issues (suicidal thoughts and tendencies, alcoholism, depression, and drug abusers.) A lot of those issues may stem from what took place during an adult’s childhood that stem from a variety of reasons. Some adults seek help and some refuse to seek help. The adults who do seek help come to realize that their current issues stem from when they were a child and still developing as a human. Child abuse can come in many forms, physical, mental, and sexual. Adults who have been exposed or experienced this are likely to suffer from some form of mental health issue. It is important to figure out the root of mental health issues in adults so the root can be addressed. Children need to be in a healthy environment with nothing short of love and care. Exposing children to a harsh reality is only breeding them into an adult who suffers from mental health issues.
Literature Review
The study of psychology helps researchers to understand better what is going on with a person. Researchers studied what happened in a person's life that causes them to make the decisions they do and behave in a certain way. Adults have this stigmatism that they can do whatever they want because they are "grown." Many adults suffer from something that can cause to lead towards suicidal thoughts and tendencies, alcoholism, depression, and drug abusers. A lot of those issues may stem from what took place during an adult’s childhood. There could be some reasons adults tend to display certain mental health traits that have been studied in many different forms by researchers. What we will be reviewed is the abuse, physical or mental, that an adult endured as a child and how it affects them in their adulthood.
Blanco, C., Grant, B. F., Hasin, D. S., Lin, K. H., Olfson, M. Sugaya, L. (2012) recognized that child physical abuse had been associated with an increased risk of suicide attempts. The study conducted included Blacks, Hispanics and young adults between the ages of 18-24 in 2001-2002 and 2004-2005. In person, interviews were conducted in Wave 1. In Wave 2 used similar methods as Wave 1 but it excluded the individuals who were not eligible. Wave 2 also interviews went into depth about the questions asked for the participants first 17 years of life. There are many other variables that have been added to the data that relate to childhood physical abuse and mental health distress in adult years. Those other adversatives included the history of child sexual abuse and neglect, parental psychopathology, and perceived parental support, described as emotional neglect.
The advantages to this design would be the inclusion of other childhood adversities that could contribute to adult psychiatri.

Introduction
Throughout the growth and development of society, child abuse and maltreatment has expanded into many different aspects; it occurs within socioeconomic levels, ethnic and cultural lines, all religions and all levels of education. Within the United States children are suffering from a hidden epidemic of child abuse and neglect. Every year 3.3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving nearly 6 million children (a report can include multiple children). The United States has the worst record in the industrialized nation – losing five children every day due to abuse-related deaths (U.S. Department of HHS, 2011). The estimated cost of child abuse and neglect in the United States for 2008 is $124 billion (Fang, 2012). The Department of Children and Families (DCF) defines child maltreatment as any act or series of acts of commission or omission by a parent, guardian, or other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child (Leeb, Paulozzi, Melanson, Simon, & Arias, 2008). There are four major categories of childhood abuse and maltreatment: physical abuse, psychological and emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect (Goldman, Salus, Wolcott, & Kennedy, 2003).
According to Brian H. Bornstein, Debra L. Kaplan, and Andrea R. Perry (2007), people have stereotypes about the circumstances and consequences of child abuse, and these expectancies can influence their judgments about individuals involved in abuse cases. Heim (2000) reported that participants with a history of abuse experience greater levels of perceived stress than participants without a history of abuse. They often perceive daily stressors more severely and longer in duration than their counterparts. It is also suggested that their history of abuse compromises these participants’ abilities to cope with stress, but the researchers noted that the data from their study is inconclusive, making it difficult for them to either support or refute this claim.
The perception of child abuse is very influential to students and upcoming professionals. Society’s definition and perception will guide current social work students into practice, which is a very important factor within the professional realm of social work.
Research Question
The purpose of this study is to examine college students and professionals’ perception of child abuse and how it relates to stress. The independent variable is the college students and professionals’ perception of child abuse and the dependent variable is how it relates to stress. The operational definition of perception remains closely allied to the continually developing behavioral theory of discrimination (Schoenfeld, 1962). The operational definition of child abuse is as any act or series of acts of commission or omission by a parent, guardian, or other caregiver that results.

Abstract
In recent a post, oppositional disorder diseases has been on the rise, raising questions about the manner in which diseases is spreading especially among children. The high prevalence levels of the oppositional disorder have raised more concerns especially form the health, sectors thus developing the need to understand the disorder better. This research paper will, therefore, encompass a broad perspective of oppositional disorder disease to effectively understand how it is manifested, various ways in which it manifests itself to develop preventive strategy much earlier before the situation reaches full-blown.
Unlike the common conduct disorder where the patient is more aggressive towards people and animals, the oppositional disorder is more silent, and it takes time for it to be detected. The lifetime prevalence of the disease is estimated to be 10.2%. The disease is mostly observed in children and adolescents across the globe.
Some of the common symptoms of the disease involve a certain behavior where children’s behavior is much different compared to their peers. A patient suffering from oppositional disorder tends to have a turn in their behavior including regular loose of temper, being angry and resentful, argues with authorities without any significant reason. It is importance to note that the persistence and frequency of these behaviors should be used to differentiate between normal behavior and symptoms of the oppositional disorder. The disease causes a massive effect on patient’s mental and physical wellbeing.
The most common cause of the oppositional disorder is the genetic influence. Research has shown that parents tend to pass on expressing disorder to their children, and it may be displayed in multiple ways. The disease can be easily diagnosed basing on the extent at which the change of behavior causes distress to the family members or drastic changes in academic and social functioning. These behaviors must persist.

Abstract
Psychological abuse, household dysfunction, neglect, and physical abuse are examples of adverse childhood trauma. However, in efforts to support trauma-informed care for male offenders, the relationship between these adverse childhood traumatic events and dissociation must be determined. This study will utilize a qualitative research approach as well as a correlational research design. The study will include 30 participants drawn from Broad River and Lee county correction for the study.
Introduction
Adverse childhood experiences are traumatic events that occur in children aged 0 to 18, even before born in my opinion. An emotional abuse, a household dysfunction, neglect, and a physical abuse are examples of traumatic events. Adverse childhood trauma has long-term consequences in an individual's life, resulting in higher levels of dissociation. This disassociation is more pronounced in male offenders. These negative childhood experiences are also one of the factors that contributed to the crimes committed by these individuals. However, more research is needed to determine how these adverse childhood traumas relate to the dissociation in male offenders.
This relationship will be critical in informing the provision of trauma-informed care to these offenders. Trauma is described as a traumatic occurrence that threatens one's or others' bodily or psychological well-being and causes feelings of fear, helplessness, or shock (American Psychiatric Association, 2013; Bloom, 2013). Traumatic events have been a part of human life since the beginning of time. Severe accidents, violence, personal assaults, or natural disasters could all be examples. Various historical events illustrate the various forms of trauma that can occur in human life. These experiences have resulted in the creation of numerous trauma sources that have improved human knowledge of trauma. Human beings, on the other hand, are still subjected to trauma that affects their emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychological well-being.
Physical attack, combat, accidents, and human or natural disasters have all resulted in males experiencing trauma. Most men live in diverse cities are affected by violent trauma. The previous study on this found that gun, violence, and drug crimes were more rampant among the repeat victims of violence as compared to those that were accidentally injured (Coope.et-al, 2000). 'First generation' research on child day care and aftercare programs mostly looked at the child's impairment in isolation, while’s second generation' research tries to look at the kid's functioning within context (Baker et al., 2019). The family-centered approach emphasizes this setting by recognizing the importance of the home as the first and most influential environment for a child's development of the skills and knowledge valued in their society (Hotz & Wiswall, 2019). An essential tenet of this strengths-based strategy is that family values and customs provide the foundation for effective and long-lasting intervention.
The family-centered criteria have not been met by conventional methods, which have been criticized for not being in line with family objectives and aspirations. Rather of recognizing what families and communities already know and do, a deficit model emphasizes what they do not (Baker et al., 2019). This method results in "professionally prescribed" treatments based mostly on the assumptions of experts without the requisite comprehension of the kid within context. Thus, families are frequently given activities or programs that are not tailored to their specific needs, which might increase their already heavy workload (Hotz & Wiswall, 2019). Introduction
How well a person is able to live a full life, build and maintain relationships and pursue their education, profession or other pursuits requires them to maintain their well-being ranging from physical to mental health. When assisting others to achieve good and self-motivated changes, social workers draw on their relationship-based abilities and emphasize personalization and rehabilitation. A key issue is, "What components and obstacles of an assessment are there in order to reach these outcomes?" When it comes to health promotion and public involvement, social workers are well-suited for this role since primary care is all about these things. Social workers who deal with mental health have unique challenges in assessment, which necessitates them learning and using psychiatric principles. Identifying the need for mental health care requires an understanding of assessment principles.
For this research, the focus is on urban youth's increase in mental health cases which is more influenced by lack of access to mental health care as a result of poverty that affects many children and families in the US. Young people are the most impacted by poverty, accounting for 33% of the total number of individuals in poverty. Children who live in "high risk neighborhoods" are more likely to lack access to the mental health supports they need to manage their symptoms. Task Force’s Aspirational Goal 2 (screening for suicide risk) as it pertains specifically to children,
adolescents, and young adults. Two assumptions are forwarded: (1) strategies for screening youth for
suicide risk need to be tailored developmentally; and (2) we must use instruments that were created

Introduction
Suicide remains a leading cause of death for youth
worldwide.1 Screening for risk of suicide and
suicidal behavior is an important and necessary

Implementing effective screening programs involves

Evaluating the impact of an autogenic
training relaxation intervention on levels
of anxiety amongst adolescents in school

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the impact of a group-based autogenic training (AT) relaxation
intervention on levels of anxiety in adolescents in mainstream school settings.
Method: A mixed-methods design was used to measure differences in levels of anxiety and explore a range
of perceived changes between groups over time. Sixty-six young people aged between 14 and 15 years old
from four mainstream schools in the UK were randomly assigned within each school to an intervention
or wait-list control group. Quantitative data were analysed using a mixed between-within subjects ANOVA.
Qualitative information from 12 volunteer participants was analysed using thematic analysis.
Findings: Results showed a main effect of time for both the intervention group and the wait-list group
however, no significant main interaction was found. Qualitative results showed perceived improvements
in social relationships and connectivity; reflectiveness; self-awareness; physiological symptoms; and a sense
of control.
Limitations: Measures were reliant on self-reported data. Schools were recruited through self-referral and
expression of interest, excluding participants who may not have the opportunity to take part. There were
no opportunities to collect follow-up data.
Conclusions: Results suggest that a structured AT relaxation intervention delivered in a familiar
school environment may significantly reduce levels of anxiety amongst adolescents. However, significant
improvements for the wait-list group also raises questions around the potential of other supportive
variables, such as acknowledgement and validation of feelings, the promise and availability of
forthcoming support and the potential impact of raised awareness and interest in pupil wellbeing
amongst school staff.

Approximately 12% of children in the United States have one or both parents with substance abuse issues. According to David Sack (2013), more than 28 million American children have one parent who is addicted to alcohol but this addiction is not being discussed at home (Sack, 2013) and of those 11 million are under the age of 18 (Rodriquez, 2004). These children are at a higher risk of developing complex behavioral, academic, and emotional difficulties than other children. Children of addicts are four times more likely to marry an addict and are at risk of becoming a victim of abuse, neglect, or violence. Children of addicted parents are fiercely loyal to the parent. Adolescents are hesitant to open up and are vulnerable. They are reluctant to reveal parental confidences, even if they urgently need the help (Sack, 2013).

It is important to analyze the severity of the problem before analyzing the effectiveness of counseling as a corrective measure. It is estimated that nearly 8.3 million children under the age of 18 live with at least one substance abusing/ dependent parent. (2002) stated that recent research has found that children of substance-addicted parents are more likely to suffer neglect or abuse than those children who do not have an addicted parent. Wulczyn, Ernst & Fisher (2011) hypothesize that nearly 61% of infants and 41% of older children in the welfare system stem from families with active parental alcohol abuse issues. Children who enter the system as infants are more likely to spend a longer duration in care. Infants, especially those aged three months or younger, are more apt to be adopted and spend less or no time in group home placement. All children who enter out-of-home care are vulnerable to delays in social, emotional and cognitive development, which increases the risk of school failure, drug and alcohol abuse and criminality. Baras and Toro (1999) sought to assess the social support of homeless populations by using two
commonly used instruments: The Interpersonal Support Evaluation (ISEL) and the Social Network
Interview (SNL). In comparing the instruments, the ISEL was found to be useful in indicating a
participant’s psychological well-being, while the SNL helped to assess stress-buffering effects.
More details regarding the instrument items would have been more helpful for the use of this
paper. However, the study’s results substantiate the concept that the presence of social support
for the homeless should support physical and psychological health in the way that it cushions the
effects of stressful events. These instruments yielded results indicating that larger nonfamily
social networks are a predictor for recurring homelessness, as well as mental illness.
Galaif, E.R., Nyamathi, A.M., Stein, J.A. (1999). Psychosocial predictors of current drug use, drug
problems, and physical drug dependencies in homeless women. Addictive Behaviors, 24 (6), 801-

This study was designed to show relationships between psychosocial elements and use of the top
three most frequently used drugs among homeless women. The impact of social networks on
adaptive and maladaptive coping mechanisms that influence drug use were measured through a
version of the Jalowiec Coping Scale, part of a multi-item instrument. Depression, current drug
use, drug problems and physical drug dependence were assessed, in other parts of the
instrument. Current drug use was found to predict negative social support, depression and less
use of positive coping strategies. Homelessness may diminish a woman’s capability to establish
and maintain positive social support. This article was very informative in that it gives clearly

This one-year study investigated how various possessions and fantasies serve as coping
mechanisms for homeless children. Many of the child participants were resilient despite
homelessness because of positive role models. In addition, though they had little material
possessions, these children often engaged in fantastical play that portrayed one particular
“special” toy overcoming evil and other obstacles, then moving on to a better place. The
methods used in this study are primarily interviewing and observation, and were part of an
ethnography at a suburban homeless shelter; no psychometric instruments were used. Though
the researcher’s background primarily involves an interest in consumerism, this study is valuable.

Self-esteem is defined as how one feels about oneself.1 It may be either high or low depending upon a personal assessment of self. Healthy self-esteem is essential for success in every area of life. It is one of the most dynamic variables in youth development.
Size of the Problem:
It has been observed that children experience a decline in self esteem during adolescence years which is a critical transition period for them. Girls experience this decline at age 12 whereas in boys the decline generally begins at age 14.2 Youth with high self-esteem consider themselves worthy, and view themselves as equal to others. Those low in self-esteem generally experience self-rejection, self-dissatisfaction, self-contempt, and self-disparagement. Direct estimates of the level of self-esteem in Kentucky youth are not available but there are some indirect indicators that can help us understand this problem in our young population.

“Dissociative identity disorder is characterized by the presence of two or more identities or personality states, each with its relatively enduring pattern of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and the self” (Vermetten, Schmahl, Lindner, Loewenstein, & Bremner, 2006). There are many characteristics used that accompany Dissociative Disorder (DID). One method to understanding would be to know how the disorders are classified and defined. DID may be conceptualized effectively using the diathesis-stress model. There are many different intervention strategies for this disorder as well. Over time researchers have discovered the most effective treatments and interventions that can be used regarding DID. When one dissociates, the person may not have conscious awareness of what is happening (Vermetten, Schmahl, Lindner, Loewenstein, & Bremner, 2006).

One limitless, longitudinal, naturalistic, and prospective study investigated childhood maltreatment (CM) in adult intimate partner violence (IPV) victims among Dissociative Disorder (DD) patients with Dissociative Identity Disorder with CM rates of 80-95% and severe dissociative symptoms (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014). The methods of this study include 275 DD outpatient therapy patients who completed a self-reported measure of dissociation (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014). Analyses assessed associations between CM typologies, trait dissociation, and IPV (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014). The results of this study include emotional and physical child abuse associated with childhood witnessing of domestic violence, physical, and emotional IPV (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014) Two-tailed independent samples t -tests and z-tests were used in this study to represent data as well. “As an effect size, odds ratios (ORs) were calculated to predict the likelihood of a participant being in an abusive adult relationship if they experienced a particular type of CM” (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014, p. 5).
A double-blind study was conducted including 15 females with DID compared to 23 without psychopathology., chosen by self-disclosure results of a questionnaire along with a structured clinical interview by psychiatrists The objective was to examine the volumetric differences between amygdala and hippocampal volumes in patients with dissociative identity disorder, a disorder that has been associated with a history of severe childhood trauma (Vermetten, Schmahl, Lindner, Loewenstein, & Bremner, 2006). Abstract
Psychological abuse, household dysfunction, neglect, and physical abuse are examples of adverse childhood trauma. However, in efforts to support trauma-informed care for male offenders, the relationship between these adverse childhood traumatic events and dissociation must be determined. This study will utilize a qualitative research approach as well as a correlational research design. The study will include 30 participants drawn from Broad River and Lee county correction for the study.
Introduction
Adverse childhood experiences are traumatic events that occur in children aged 0 to 18, even before born in my opinion. An emotional abuse, a household dysfunction, neglect, and a physical abuse are examples of traumatic events. Adverse childhood trauma has long-term consequences in an individual's life, resulting in higher levels of dissociation. This disassociation is more pronounced in male offenders. These negative childhood experiences are also one of the factors that contributed to the crimes committed by these individuals. However, more research is needed to determine how these adverse childhood traumas relate to the dissociation in male offenders.
This relationship will be critical in informing the provision of trauma-informed care to these offenders. Trauma is described as a traumatic occurrence that threatens one's or others' bodily or psychological well-being and causes feelings of fear, helplessness, or shock (American Psychiatric Association, 2013; Bloom, 2013). Traumatic events have been a part of human life since the beginning of time. Severe accidents, violence, personal assaults, or natural disasters could all be examples. Various historical events illustrate the various forms of trauma that can occur in human life. These experiences have resulted in the creation of numerous trauma sources that have improved human knowledge of trauma. Human beings, on the other hand, are still subjected to trauma that affects their emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychological well-being.
Physical attack, combat, accidents, and human or natural disasters have all resulted in males experiencing trauma. Most men live in diverse cities are affected by violent trauma. The previous study on this found that gun, violence, and drug crimes were more rampant among the repeat victims of violence as compared to those that were accidentally injured (Coope.et-al, 2000). TIC is focused on an increasing understanding of the adverse effects of psychological trauma.

'First generation' research on child day care and aftercare programs mostly looked at the child's impairment in isolation, while’s second generation' research tries to look at the kid's functioning within context (Baker et al., 2019). The family-centered approach emphasizes this setting by recognizing the importance of the home as the first and most influential environment for a child's development of the skills and knowledge valued in their society (Hotz & Wiswall, 2019). An essential tenet of this strengths-based strategy is that family values and customs provide the foundation for effective and long-lasting intervention.
The family-centered criteria have not been met by conventional methods, which have been criticized for not being in line with family objectives and aspirations. Rather of recognizing what families and communities already know and do, a deficit model emphasizes what they do not (Baker et al., 2019). This method results in "professionally prescribed" treatments based mostly on the assumptions of experts without the requisite comprehension of the kid within context. Thus, families are frequently given activities or programs that are not tailored to their specific needs, which might increase their already heavy workload (Hotz & Wiswall, 2019). Families of young children experience events beyond those provided by early intervention programmes that can and do influence child development and family functioning, and this deficit-based approach to intervention has been criticized for not leaving enough time for families to engage in these activities (Baker et al., 2019).

Introduction
How well a person is able to live a full life, build and maintain relationships and pursue their education, profession or other pursuits requires them to maintain their well-being ranging from physical to mental health. When assisting others to achieve good and self-motivated changes, social workers draw on their relationship-based abilities and emphasize personalization and rehabilitation. A key issue is, "What components and obstacles of an assessment are there in order to reach these outcomes?" When it comes to health promotion and public involvement, social workers are well-suited for this role since primary care is all about these things. Social workers who deal with mental health have unique challenges in assessment, which necessitates them learning and using psychiatric principles. Identifying the need for mental health care requires an understanding of assessment principles.
For this research, the focus is on urban youth's increase in mental health cases which is more influenced by lack of access to mental health care as a result of poverty that affects many children and families in the US. Young people are the most impacted by poverty, accounting for 33% of the total number of individuals in poverty. Children who live in "high risk neighborhoods" are more likely to lack access to the mental health supports they need to manage their symptoms. Suicide remains a leading cause of death for youth
worldwide.1 Screening for risk of suicide and
suicidal behavior is an important and necessary
first step toward suicide prevention in young people.
Implementing effective screening programs involves
targeting high-risk populations in favorable settings.2
Medical settings have been designated as key venues to

Evaluating the impact of an autogenic
training relaxation intervention on levels
of anxiety amongst adolescents in school

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the impact of a group-based autogenic training (AT) relaxation
intervention on levels of anxiety in adolescents in mainstream school settings.
Method: A mixed-methods design was used to measure differences in levels of anxiety and explore a range
of perceived changes between groups over time. Sixty-six young people aged between 14 and 15 years old
from four mainstream schools in the UK were randomly assigned within each school to an intervention
or wait-list control group. Quantitative data were analysed using a mixed between-within subjects ANOVA.
Qualitative information from 12 volunteer participants was analysed using thematic analysis.
Findings: Results showed a main effect of time for both the intervention group and the wait-list group
however, no significant main interaction was found. Qualitative results showed perceived improvements
in social relationships and connectivity; reflectiveness; self-awareness; physiological symptoms; and a sense
of control.
Limitations: Measures were reliant on self-reported data. Schools were recruited through self-referral and
expression of interest, excluding participants who may not have the opportunity to take part. There were
no opportunities to collect follow-up data.
Conclusions: Results suggest that a structured AT relaxation intervention delivered in a familiar
school environment may significantly reduce levels of anxiety amongst adolescents. However, significant
improvements for the wait-list group also raises questions around the potential of other supportive
variables, such as acknowledgement and validation of feelings, the promise and availability of
forthcoming support and the potential impact of raised awareness and interest in pupil wellbeing
amongst school staff.

Health Organization (WHO) reports that in
half of all cases of mental health conditions,
onset has occurred by the age of 14 years
old; suicide is the third leading cause of
death in 15–19 year olds; and the second
leading cause of death in girls (WHO, 2018).
It is estimated that one in ten children and
young people aged 5–16 years old have
a diagnosable mental health disorder in the
UK alone; and at least one in 12 children
and young people deliberately self-harm

Approximately 12% of children in the United States have one or both parents with substance abuse issues. According to David Sack (2013), more than 28 million American children have one parent who is addicted to alcohol but this addiction is not being discussed at home (Sack, 2013) and of those 11 million are under the age of 18 (Rodriquez, 2004). These children are at a higher risk of developing complex behavioral, academic, and emotional difficulties than other children. Children of addicts are four times more likely to marry an addict and are at risk of becoming a victim of abuse, neglect, or violence. Children of addicted parents are fiercely loyal to the parent. Adolescents are hesitant to open up and are vulnerable. They are reluctant to reveal parental confidences, even if they urgently need the help (Sack, 2013).
Statistics of Children from Parental Substance Abuse Backgrounds
It is important to analyze the severity of the problem before analyzing the effectiveness of counseling as a corrective measure. It is estimated that nearly 8.3 million children under the age of 18 live with at least one substance abusing/ dependent parent. Also, approximately more than half of child maltreatment cases in the United States were because of parental substance abuse in one way or another.
Kirisci et al. (2002) stated that recent research has found that children of substance-addicted parents are more likely to suffer neglect or abuse than those children who do not have an addicted parent. Additionally, comparable to inattentive mothers and fathers, numerous substance-addicted parents were also mistreated and/or neglected as children (Dunn et al., 2001; Connors et al., 2004; Cash & Wilke, 2003), and describe other disturbing incidents as adults and children (Cohen et al., 2008).
Wulczyn, Ernst & Fisher (2011) hypothesize that nearly 61% of infants and 41% of older children in the welfare system stem from families with active parental alcohol abuse issues. Children who enter the system as infants are more likely to spend a longer duration in care. Infants, especially those aged three months or younger, are more apt to be adopted and spend less or no time in group home placement. All children who enter out-of-home care are vulnerable to delays in social, emotional and cognitive development, which increases the risk of school failure, drug and alcohol abuse and criminality. The toxic stress levels that some infants endure links with developmental delays and poor outcomes for children who are the victims of abuse and neglect. Baras and Toro (1999) sought to assess the social support of homeless populations by using two
commonly used instruments: The Interpersonal Support Evaluation (ISEL) and the Social Network
Interview (SNL). In comparing the instruments, the ISEL was found to be useful in indicating a
participant’s psychological well-being, while the SNL helped to assess stress-buffering effects.
More details regarding the instrument items would have been more helpful for the use of this
paper. However, the study’s results substantiate the concept that the presence of social support
for the homeless should support physical and psychological health in the way that it cushions the
effects of stressful events. These instruments yielded results indicating that larger nonfamily
social networks are a predictor for recurring homelessness, as well as mental illness.
Galaif, E.R., Nyamathi, A.M., Stein, J.A. (1999). Psychosocial predictors of current drug use, drug
problems, and physical drug dependencies in homeless women. Addictive Behaviors, 24 (6), 801-

This study was designed to show relationships between psychosocial elements and use of the top
three most frequently used drugs among homeless women. The impact of social networks on
adaptive and maladaptive coping mechanisms that influence drug use were measured through a
version of the Jalowiec Coping Scale, part of a multi-item instrument. Depression, current drug
use, drug problems and physical drug dependence were assessed, in other parts of the
instrument. Current drug use was found to predict negative social support, depression and less
use of positive coping strategies. Homelessness may diminish a woman’s capability to establish
and maintain positive social support. This article was very informative in that it gives clearly

This one-year study investigated how various possessions and fantasies serve as coping
mechanisms for homeless children. Many of the child participants were resilient despite
homelessness because of positive role models. In addition, though they had little material
possessions, these children often engaged in fantastical play that portrayed one particular
“special” toy overcoming evil and other obstacles, then moving on to a better place. The
methods used in this study are primarily interviewing and observation, and were part of an
ethnography at a suburban homeless shelter; no psychometric instruments were used. Though
the researcher’s background primarily involves an interest in consumerism, this study is valuable.

Self-esteem is defined as how one feels about oneself.1 It may be either high or low depending upon a personal assessment of self. Healthy self-esteem is essential for success in every area of life. It is one of the most dynamic variables in youth development.
Size of the Problem:
It has been observed that children experience a decline in self esteem during adolescence years which is a critical transition period for them. Girls experience this decline at age 12 whereas in boys the decline generally begins at age 14.2 Youth with high self-esteem consider themselves worthy, and view themselves as equal to others. Those low in self-esteem generally experience self-rejection, self-dissatisfaction, self-contempt, and self-disparagement. Direct estimates of the level of self-esteem in Kentucky youth are not available but there are some indirect indicators that can help us understand this problem in our young population.

“Dissociative identity disorder is characterized by the presence of two or more identities or personality states, each with its relatively enduring pattern of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and the self” (Vermetten, Schmahl, Lindner, Loewenstein, & Bremner, 2006). There are many characteristics used that accompany Dissociative Disorder (DID). One method to understanding would be to know how the disorders are classified and defined. DID may be conceptualized effectively using the diathesis-stress model. There are many different intervention strategies for this disorder as well. Over time researchers have discovered the most effective treatments and interventions that can be used regarding DID. When one dissociates, the person may not have conscious awareness of what is happening (Vermetten, Schmahl, Lindner, Loewenstein, & Bremner, 2006).

One limitless, longitudinal, naturalistic, and prospective study investigated childhood maltreatment (CM) in adult intimate partner violence (IPV) victims among Dissociative Disorder (DD) patients with Dissociative Identity Disorder with CM rates of 80-95% and severe dissociative symptoms (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014). The methods of this study include 275 DD outpatient therapy patients who completed a self-reported measure of dissociation (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014). Analyses assessed associations between CM typologies, trait dissociation, and IPV (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014). The results of this study include emotional and physical child abuse associated with childhood witnessing of domestic violence, physical, and emotional IPV (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014) Two-tailed independent samples t -tests and z-tests were used in this study to represent data as well. “As an effect size, odds ratios (ORs) were calculated to predict the likelihood of a participant being in an abusive adult relationship if they experienced a particular type of CM” (Webermann, Brand, & Chasson, 2014, p. 5).
A double-blind study was conducted including 15 females with DID compared to 23 without psychopathology., chosen by self-disclosure results of a questionnaire along with a structured clinical interview by psychiatrists The objective was to examine the volumetric differences between amygdala and hippocampal volumes in patients with dissociative identity disorder, a disorder that has been associated with a history of severe childhood trauma (Vermetten, Schmahl, Lindner, Loewenstein, & Bremner, 2006). Deontology
The ethical position to do what is right out of duty or obligation. It is often called rule-based ethics.
Deontology has been described as "absolutist," "universal," and "impersonal" (Kant, 1785/1959). It prioritizes absolute obligations over consequences. In this moral framework, ethical decision making is the rational act of applying universal principles to all situations irrespective of specific relations, contexts, or consequences. This reflects Immanuel Kant's conviction that ethical decisions cannot vary or be influenced by special circumstances or relationships. Rather, a decision is "moral" only if a rational person believes the act resulting from the decision should be universally followed in all situations. For Kant, respect for the worth of all persons was one such universal principle. A course of action that results in a person being used simply as a means for others' gains would ethically unacceptable.
With respect to deception in research, from a deontological perspective, since we would not believe it moral to intentionally deceive individuals in some other context, neither potential benefits to society nor the effectiveness of participant debriefing for a particular deception study can morally justify intentionally deceiving persons about the purpose or nature of a research study. Further, deception in research would not be ethically permissible since intentionally disguising the nature of the study for the goals of research violates the moral obligation to respect each participant's intrinsic worth by undermining individuals' right to make rational and autonomous decisions regarding participation (Fisher & Fyrberg, 1994).
Utilitarianism
The ethical position depends on the consequences of the action with the goal being producing the most good.
Utilitarian theory prioritizes the consequences (or utility) of an act over the application of universal principles (Mill, 1861/1957). From this perspective, an ethical decision is situation specific and must be governed by a risk-benefit calculus that determines which act will produce the greatest possible balance of good over bad consequences. An "act utilitarian" makes an ethical decision by evaluating the consequences of an act for a given situation. A "rule utilitarian" makes an ethical decision by evaluating whether following a general rule in all similar situation would create the greater good. Like deontology, utilitarianism is impersonal: It does not take into account interpersonal and relational features of ethical responsibility. From this perspective, psychologists' obligations to those with whom they work can be superseded by an action that would produce a greater good for others (Fisher, 1999).

EVOLUTION
Chevron Corporation (www.chevron.com) is one of the world’s leading
energy companies. Chevron’s headquarters are in San Ramon, California.
The company has more than 62,000 employees and produces more than
700,000 barrels of oil per day. It has 19,500 retail sites in 84 countries. In
2012, Chevron was number three on the Fortune 500 list and had more than
$244 billion in revenue in 2011 [STAT12].
IT infrastructure is very important to Chevron and to better support all
facets of its global operations, the company is always focused on improving
its infrastructure [GALL12]. Chevron faces new challenges from increased
global demand for its traditional hydrocarbon products and the need to
develop IT support for new value chains for liquid natural gas (LNG) and the
extraction of gas and oil from shale. Huge investments are being made
around the world, particularly in Australia and Angola on massive projects of
unprecedented scale. Modeling and analytics are more important than ever
to help Chevron exploit deep water drilling and hydrocarbon extraction in
areas with challenging geographies. For example, advanced seismic imaging
tools are used by Chevron to reveal possible oil or natural gas reservoirs
beneath the earth’s surface. Chevron’s proprietary seismic imaging

technology contributed to it achieving a 69% discovery rate in
2011[CHEV12].
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
Systems
Chevron refineries are continually collecting data from sensors spread
throughout the facilities to maintain safe operations and to alert operators to
potential safety issues before they ever become safety issues. Data from the
sensors is also used to optimize the way the refineries work and to identify
opportunities of greater efficiency. IT controls 60,000 valves at Chevron’s
Pascagoula, Mississippi refinery; the efficiency and safety of its end-to-end
operations are dependent on advanced sensors, supervisory control and data
acquisition (SCADA) systems, and other digital industrial control systems
[GALL12].

How to create a case study
The case studies are meant to be an enjoyable, interesting, and informative assignment. This is your
chance to show that you understand the key teaching points about a microbe and to communicate
these points in a written format.
What information belongs in my case study?
Have at least 3-4 key referenced points in each of the five areas shown in the Case Study Information
Chart (see below). The left-hand heading in the chart suggests the type of information requested for the
pathogen. Outlines can be in whatever form you prefer (bullets/charts/outlines/diagrams or a mix). Be
sure to include two discussion questions (and provide complete answers) that you can incorporate
into your case study (place them at the end of your write-up). These questions should help connect your
case to other material in the course. For example, what other microbes have an A-B toxin? What other
viruses are transmitted by fecal-oral spread?
How much information should I provide for my case study?
For the Case Study, you are asked to provide at least the information requested in the chart below. The
boxed questions are suggestions for the minimum amount of information within each category. The
more detailed the information, the better the study. You may consult your textbook, CDC, WHO, Access
Medicine, Google Scholar, NCBI, WebMD, etc. to find the information. For example, if you perform a
Google search using the name of the pathogen and the word ‘vaccine’, you will find information on
current vaccines (if any), those in clinical trials, vaccines used only in animals, etc.

The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied

2. Problem Statement
Several adults struggle from a variety of mental health
issues (suicidal thoughts and tendencies, alcoholism,
depression, and drug abusers.) A lot of those issues may stem
from what took place during an adult’s childhood that stem from
a variety of reasons. Some adults seek help and some refuse to
seek help. The adults who do seek help come to realize that
their current issues stem from when they were a child and still
developing as a human. Child abuse can come in many forms,
physical, mental, and sexual. Adults who have been exposed or
experienced this are likely to suffer from some form of mental
health issue. It is important to figure out the root of mental
health issues in adults so the root can be addressed. Children
need to be in a healthy environment with nothing short of love
and care. Exposing children to a harsh reality is only breeding
them into an adult who suffers from mental health issues.
Literature Review
The study of psychology helps researchers to understand
better what is going on with a person. Researchers studied what
happened in a person's life that causes them to make the
decisions they do and behave in a certain way. Adults have this
stigmatism that they can do whatever they want because they
are "grown." Many adults suffer from something that can cause
to lead towards suicidal thoughts and tendencies, alcoholism,
3. depression, and drug abusers. A lot of those issues may stem
from what took place during an adult’s childhood. There could
be some reasons adults tend to display certain mental health
traits that have been studied in many different forms by
researchers. What we will be reviewed is the abuse, physical or
mental, that an adult endured as a child and how it affects them
in their adulthood.
Blanco, C., Grant, B. F., Hasin, D. S., Lin, K. H., Olfson,
M. Sugaya, L. (2012) recognized that child physical abuse had
been associated with an increased risk of suicide attempts. The
study conducted included Blacks, Hispanics and young adults
between the ages of 18-24 in 2001-2002 and 2004-2005. In
person, interviews were conducted in Wave 1. In Wave 2 used
similar methods as Wave 1 but it excluded the individuals who
were not eligible. Wave 2 also interviews went into depth about
the questions asked for the participants first 17 years of life.
There are many other variables that have been added to the data
that relate to childhood physical abuse and mental health
distress in adult years. Those other adversatives included the
history of child sexual abuse and neglect, parental
psychopathology, and perceived parental support, described as
emotional neglect.
The advantages to this design would be the inclusion of
other childhood adversities that could contribute to adult
psychiatric disorders and childhood abuse. The interviews were
conducted in person and allowed for diagnosis. They also used
data from the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and
Related Conditions (NESARC). A disadvantage and a gap in the
research would be the only participants studied for suicidal
attempts were the ones who were flagged for depression. The
study was conducted over several years; files could be
misplaced or lost and cross-referenced. This design limits the
validity of unconcerned inferences from the childhood abuse on
mental health.
Dovran, A, Winje, D, Overland, S, Arefjord, K, Hansen, A,
Waage, L. 2016 stated childhood maltreatment associated with
4. an increased risk in later life of mental health problems,
developmental and social difficulties, interpersonal problems,
revictimization, and criminal behavior. Data were collected
from a total of 551 participants, male and female from
September 2006 to May 2011 with an age range of 13 to 65
years. There were several client and patient-based groups.
Groups for this study were considered to be a large sample that
may result in a high risk of exposure to childhood adversity.
Researchers used the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire Shirt
Form (CTQ-SF), a 28 item self-reporting questionnaire that was
allowed for the assessment of five types of maltreatment. The
five types include: emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual
abuse, emotional neglect, and physical neglect, scored from
"never true" to "very often true." The study showed women
having significantly higher scores than the men in the sexual
abuse category.
This study was approved by the Regional Committee for
Medical and Health Research Ethics and the Norwegian Social
Science Data Services (Dovran et al., 2016). The study was
reported good internal consistency and test-retest reliability.
The sensitivity and specificity appear good when the suggested
cut-off scores were used with the therapists' estimates of
maltreatment as the "gold standard." The Norwegian version of
the CTQ-SF has demonstrated internal consistency at a
satisfactory to excellent level. Reliability from this version is
also something that has shown to have satisfactory consistency.
The validity of this study could be threatened due to the use of
self- reporting without corroborating information and memory
bias. The focus on the five types of maltreatment aids and the
cut-off values aids in the validity and reliability of this
research.
The impact of traumatic events and experiences, such as
exposure to violence, on brain functioning, leads to an increased
risk for mental health problems, anti-social behaviors,
victimization, and other negative life consequences (Franzese,
R. J., Covey, H. C., Tucker, A. S., McCoy, L., Menard, S.,
5. 2014). This study received data from the National Youth Survey
Family Study (NYSFS). The study consisted of 12 waves of data
over 27 years with an estimate of 2,360 eligible youth
participants who, at the initial interview was aged 11-17 years.
When it comes to physical health problems there is no
significant difference in male and female, however, females are
more likely to seek professional help for mental health
problems. Advantages to this study were the time frame and
categories utilized to conduct thorough research and provide
relevant answers and data. A disadvantage and validity and
reliability issue that raises concern is the inconsistency of
answers from participants. The study yielded self-reporting
surveys. However, some participants were not consistent in
their answers in the original waves and then subsequent waves.
Also using self-reporting surveys allows for reliance on the
memory of the participant.
Studies show that neglect, physical abuse, and sexual
abuse are each associated with increased levels of suicidal
ideation, intent, planning, and suicide attempts. Fuller-
Thompson, E., Baker, T., Brennenstuhl, S. (2012). This study
received its data from the 2005 Canadian Community Health
Survey (CCHS). This reporting system allowed for self-
reporting answers on childhood physical abuse and lifetime
suicidal ideation. The factors measured in this study was limited
to adverse childhood conditions, current socioeconomic factors,
current health risk and protective behaviors, psychosocial
stressors and chronic conditions, and mental health (Fuller-
Thompson, Baker, and Brennenstuhl, 2012). Out of 6,642
Canadians from the province of Saskatchewan, childhood
physical abuse weighted at 7.7% and suicidal ideation weighted
at 8.4%; with that percentage for suicidal ideation being higher
for physically abused men and women than non-abused men and
women.
A disadvantage in the methods includes the researcher
utilizing a knowledgeable person in select households to answer
necessary demographic information for all household members.
6. Although that individual member of the residence may be
knowledgeable, they may not provide accurate information for
all residents residing in that selected household. Another
disadvantage I observed was they interviewed another
household member to answer questions in regard to age and
household composition. I believe they should have interviewed
all household participants separately to have a better account
for accurate information provided. Due to this study relying
upon on self-reported answers like other articles, there can be
some validity issues due to the reliance on memory from the
participants. Many gaps were found in this study as they did not
include many variables that could help aid in their study, to
include sexual abuse, trauma disorders, personality disorders,
etc. as all these plus more can have more of an effect to suicidal
ideation.
Exposure to adverse childhood experiences(trauma) has
been linked to multiple short- and long-term physical and
psychological consequences (Homer, 2015). This article
expresses the importance for pediatric nurse practitioners (PNP)
to understand trauma exposure and its risks on the developing
child. With that comes continuous training and learning to
identify the early warning signs. Traumatic exposures that are
abusive, neglectful, or unpredictable can result in toxic stress
(Homer, 2015), which in turn can cause adverse psychological
and physical health problems.
The advantages of this article are to educate PNPs on the
proper way to identify a child who has been exposed to
traumatic experiences. Gaps were not identified in this study, or
validity issues relevant to this article as it is informative.
Hooven, C., Nurius, P. S., Logan-Greene, P., Thompson,
E. A. (2012) states that childhood experiences of violence and
victimization are implicated in significant psychosocial
difficulties in young adulthood, to include: depression, anxiety,
aggression, and suicide. This study involved 849 participants
from the ages of 16-24 years. The childhood victimization
reported was high in nature, with a very low level of non-
7. reporters before high school.
A disadvantage is missing assessments from original study
represent design and timing issues. An advantage is the research
was approved by the University Institutional Review Board
which aids in the validity and reliability of the article and data
provided. Although there was not much difference in the age,
race, and ethnicity groupings, the levels for victimization are
still high.
Children are rarely seen having suicidal tendencies or
depression if they do its due to bullying in schools. Adults have
more of an issue when it comes battling depression, alcoholism,
and substance abuse, not admitting because of what they have
experienced in their childhood. The research question: Does
childhood abuse result in mental health disease in adults? With
the research hypothesis being that the more physical abuse a
child has encountered the more likely they are to have a mental
health illness in their adult life. In the above studies, the
researchers provided insight and knowledge on childhood
trauma, physical abuse and sexual abuse and how that is a factor
in adults mental health illness. In some of the articles, the
sociodemographic of participants acted as an independent
variable. Relying on the memory of the participant would
provide gaps in the study and threaten validity.
Method
Participants
For this research I am allowed seven minimum participants
with a maximum of ten as outlines in the instructions and rubric
of this research and class. These participants will be graduate
students from SNHU PSY 510 classes. I assume I will have a
mixture of male and female students participating. I would like
to have been able to study a minimum of 50 students to be able
to obtain more usable data.
Materials
The materials used in this study will be Qualtrics.
Qualtrics is a survey program utilized by SNHU for research
8. purposes. I also plan to utilize IBM SPSS to record data and
create charts for visualization. Using a survey is very helpful in
aiding and encouraging participation. People tend to be quite
honest when answering to surveys. Data is collected from many
surveys by businesses to gather data on their clientele and the
demographics.
Procedure
There will be an introduction section prior to entering the
survey. The introduction statement will be of informed consent
and ensuring participants that their identity will remain
anonymous. This is to increase the truthfulness and ethical
behavior in their responses to questions to provide accurate
data. Participants will be asked to answer a few demographic
questions following the introduction statement. The
demographics would include age, race, field of work, parental
demographics; still married, household income. They will then
begin asked to answer specific questions regarding their
childhood; some being open ended questions to have clarity.
They will then be asked to answer questions regarding their
adult life. After completing the questionnaire, they will be
given a “Thank you” message and information on ethics.
Ethical Concerns
Ethical concerns I foresee happening is participants not being
truthful in their answers or possibly forgetting certain details of
their life. Participants may feel embarrassed based off what they
have been through or currently going through that they may not
want to come off as an individual who needs help. one way I
intend on remedying this is the introduction statement before
entering the survey. I plan to ensure the participants that they
will not be judged, and their responses are to remain
anonymous. I plan to discuss the ethics and integrity of honest
responses. If the participants continue in the survey, they are
giving consent of their honesty. The validity of this study could
be threatened due to the use of self- reporting without
corroborating information and memory bias (Dovran, et al.
2016). I also have a concern about the small number of
9. participants. In order to conduct a valuable research, I believe
more participants can help aid in such. However, there is no
way to remedy this concern for now.
Data Analysis Plan
New Data
After all data is collected, it will be coded and put into IMB
SPSS for analyzing. There will be results from childhood
related questions, adulthood mental health related questions,
and demographical questions; specifically, parental
demographics. Dependent t-test and independent t-tests will be
conducted to help analyze the data. Averages, means, standard
deviations will also be included with charts and graphs to be
included as well. Outliers, if any, will be addressed and
presented as well. A scatter chart will be used to determine if
there are any outliers. Names will not be involved to ensure
anonymity of the participants. The study will be placed into two
categories: male and female.
The childhood abuse questions, adulthood questions, and
parental demographical questions will be the more relevant
statistical data being analyzed. The results will show the
correlation of childhood abuse and the effects of mental health
as an adult. It will also show if there is any correlation in the
parental demographics and their childhood experience. Does a
two-parent household allow for less abuse or more? Does a
sizable family income provide more stability and less childhood
abuse? With truthful answers, the data should show the
correlation between demographics and childhood abuse.
Analytic Procedures
There are so many variables to analyze in this study. To
evaluate the variables in this study I will be utilizing the
analysis of variance, also known as ANOVA. ANOVA will be
utilized through the SPSS program. This program will provide
descriptive statistics with regards to means, standard deviation,
and confidence interval for each variable. I will run variables
like longevity or abuse and longevity of mental health issues, to
confirm if there is any significance related. I will also conduct
10. an independent check of the variables to examine if there is any
significance. Some variables to consider will be, parental
demographics, gender, types of abuse, longevity of abuse and
longevity of mental health. With running analysis on these
variables to check for significance I will be able to determine
which area of this study requires more attention. These
procedures may be amended to reflect research later in PSY
520.
Descriptive Statistics
The use of ANOVA will allow for analyzing to become simple.
With ANOVA a researcher is able to analyze more than one
variable at once while also providing the descriptive statistics
of means, confidence intervals, p-value, and standard deviation.
Closely observing the values provided for the descriptive
statistics will allow me to determine which variables are
significant. The variables type of abuse (Hooven, et al., 2012)
and mental health issue (Fuller-Thompson, Baker, Brennenstuhl,
2012) have all been established in prior researched. I will still
run ANOVA on these variables to see what derives from my
participants.
APA Ethics
It will be unethical for a researcher to falsify data
according to Standard 8.10 (a; APA, 2017). There is a primary
obligation and reasonable precautions must be conducted to
protect confidential information obtained or stored in any
medium according to Standard 4.01(APA, 2017). There will be
no plagiarizing from researchers. All work must be cited giving
respect and proper credit to prior researchers (APA, 2017).
According to Standard 3.10, researchers must obtain informed
consent from the participant when conducting research (APA,
2017).
Anticipated Results
I anticipate for the results to significant of each other. The
results will show that there is correlation in childhood abuse
and the mental health of an adult. It will also show the
correlation of parental demographics and childhood abuse. The
11. results will show that the more abuse a child experience or
exposed to the more likely they are to experience some form of
a mental health issue. The childhood abuse questions will be the
most relevant if participants have experienced the similar
traumatic experiences.
The responses provided will be based from memory and
honesty of the participant. The questions asked of the
participants will not be misleading or confusing. They will ask
specific questions not to lead anyone into any answer that does
not exhibit their own experience. I expect this research to
compliment other research studies conducted in a minute way.
Limitations. The limitations I anticipate having is the sample
size of participants. Although I anticipate this study to
compliment other studies conducted, the sample size makes it
almost impossible. Not only the sample size but the limitations
of them only being SNHU graduate students. Although graduate
students may be more disciplined, I believe I could get more
results from undergraduate students as well. With a limited
sample population could provide limited results with gaps.

14. Methods
Participants
This study was conducted using SNHU graduate level
students in classes PSY 510/520. The link to the survey as well
as the introduction was placed in an email to current classmates
and in the SNHU MS Psychology Lounge where students were
recruited to take the survey voluntarily. Each student was made
aware that the survey was completely voluntary and any content
provided will remain confidential. There were 12 people total to
take the survey, and there was a mix of male and female
students; only the first ten students were selected.
Materials
There were a couple of different materials used to complete this
study. I utilized the participation of ten PSY 510/520 students
from SNHU. I also utilized SPSS to analyze data obtained from
the survey. The survey had 29 questions that included questions
that were not broken into any category, but they measured the
current choices and feelings made by the participants due to
15. their childhood. The questions were not charged in nature.
Special precautions to questions were taken to be sure not to
trigger anyone’s past emotions if they may have had any.
Qualtrics was also utilized as the platform for where students
will be participating in the survey.
Methodological Procedures
The data collection heavily relied upon the Qualtrics.
Qualtrics is a system utilized by SNHU for administering the
questionnaire for students to participate. Once the
questionnaires are completed, Qualtrics will analyze the data
and group them.
Results
Raw Data
This raw data was reduced by eliminating unnecessary and
repetitive questions. By simplifying the questionnaire, you can
focus on the questions that will provide the necessary data. The
Likert scale format will remain the same for this data set. The
statistical analysis will consist of the current feelings and tasks
of each participant in relations to their childhood. The
statistical analysis will not include questions removed that
provided no bearing to the research question, as the questions
were multifaceted and created too much ambiguity.
Descriptive Statistics
Below I have included a table outlining the descriptive
statistics. There will be three separate tables; 1. Demographics
table, 2. Childhood challenges, and 3. Current feelings and
actions.

Statistical Test
For this research study, there are so many statistical tests that
can be conducted to obtain relevant data. Those tests can
include multiple regression, one-way ANOVA, Factorial
ANOVA, Independent Samples T-test, Compared means test,
PROCESS, and bivariate correlations.
The most beneficial statistical test for this data set would be the
bivariate correlations. This research study is prevalent upon
whether a correlation exists with the variables. A couple of
different bivariate tests will be conducted to obtain the
correlation values of the demographics and childhood
challenges and current feelings. The bivariate correlation tests
measure the strength of two variables and their relationship.
That value of the tests can range from 1to 0, with the most
reliable relationship being closer to 1.
The research question: Does childhood abuse cause lasting
23. effects in adults? Due to this being the research question the
bivariate correlation tests will be the most appropriate to run to
find correlations within the separate categories listed above.
This test will be able to show the relationship within the
childhood challenges, current feelings and emotions, and the
demographics.
