1 Is Technology Causing a Decline in Communication? Technology is in the modern generation that cannot be avoided. In these modern times, the mobile phone usage as means of communication has become a norm, an essential means of communication. Our lives have been forced to divert from the traditional way of communication through letters or landline telephones, and new rules are emanating to ease social interaction. The technology of the cellphone is quite helpful especially in a family setting where couples need constant communication. In this era, where the couples are geographically separated most of the times due to work related issue then we cannot run away from this important technology. Many will either call or use text messages. Mobile phones also are used in different social network sites that include Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. These sites help in easy and constant communication. Despite the many benefits brought about by the use of mobile phone, the technology has deeply caused setbacks in many families. These are in most cases where the technology is misused or overused. In a study done by Miller-Ott based on an expectancy violation theory approach (Burgon 1978) to examine expectations that romantic partners have on phone usage with college students revealed that the couples expected total and undivided attention on formal dates and when spending time together. On top of this, the study also identified the individual expectations that amounted to violation due to lack of proper communication. Looking keenly at this research then it is clear that mobile phone can cause break-ups in married or dating couples due to overuse of their time in mobile related sites and application like Instagram or Facebook. Couples dating need this undivided attention especially when they go out for dinner or a walk. As such when these couples fail to put control as to when to visit the social sites then it can easily lead to misunderstanding. It is quite important that couples set clear guidelines on when to visit such sites. From research also, it’s clear that over 50% of the communication that we do, a lot of it is communicated through our nonverbal expressions. So when couples entirely depend on communication via the phone, then they miss a lot of the unspoken word and expressions. This brings on a lot of uncertainty as there is the inability to predict or explains someone’s attitudes and or behavior. To this regard then couples live in fear as one cannot tell for sure his/her partner’s true feelings. This has largely left many couples in distress or psychologically stressed up especially when trying to resolve family disputes. Cell phone is one of the devices facilitating the change in lifestyle and ways of interaction. With emergence of cell phone, which has reduced face to face interaction to virtual communication, emerge the question; do cell phones create barrier to social connections? Arguably, some critics may say that cell phones have only changed the manner of interaction and not barred social interaction. This is not true. Cell phones have created barrier to social connections.
Critics arguing that cell phones have only transformed how people interact or form social connections, rather than create barrier to social connections propose one major argument. They argue that interaction does not necessarily have to be facial or physical. According to these critics, cell phones have opened a whole new form of social interaction and connections. These platforms are explained in terms of enhanced distance communications. Apparently, an individual does not have to seek someone out physical to convey a particular message. I both agree and disagree with the authors argument: Men and women have different needs,goals,values and communication styles. While there are obvious differences between the genders, such as testosterone balances- I feel that this statement looks over the big picture, we are all different as individuals, not necessarily as generalized groups (pink and blue). Before I get into my firm opinion on this topic, I would like to address that while this may not be true to the date, back in the day I believe that this would be more of an accurate statement. Men were born into families to earn the money and women were born and married into families to take care of the home and family- so back then, yes, I would agree that they had different goals, values and communication styles. However, these days there is far more equity in gender roles than the old timers could have ever imagined, now there are stay at home dads and traveling business moms, a new norm. There are plenty of men who share the same charisma as women, and vice versa. I would like to respectfully point out gender changes, as I feel it is appropriate for this topic: a great example of a man or woman whom shared the same goals,values,needs,etc. to the point of conversion. We are all different and with that being said, being comfortable in our own skin, which requires meeting our own needs, has nothing to do with our gender... in my opinion.

I am conflicted about this topic. I do believe that in general, men and women communicate differently and have different communication styles. I do not believe this is black and white though. I tend to think that men and women have way more commonalities in communication styles than they have differences. I find that many women are really into "gossip" and or just being very chatty in general, whereas men tend to be more reserved and quiet. Of course this doesn't pertain to every man and woman. COLLEGE students tell me they know how to look someone in the eye and type on their phones at the same time, their split attention undetected. They say it’s a skill they mastered in middle school when they wanted to text in class without getting caught. Now they use it when they want to be both with their friends and, as some put it, “elsewhere.”
These days, we feel less of a need to hide the fact that we are dividing our attention. In a 2015 study by the Pew Research Center, 89 percent of cellphone owners said they had used their phones during the last social gathering they attended. But they weren’t happy about it; 82 percent of adults felt that the way they used their phones in social settings hurt the conversation.
I’ve been studying the psychology of online connectivity for more than 30 years. For the past five, I’ve had a special focus: What has happened to face-to-face conversation in a world where so many people say they would rather text than talk? I’ve looked at families, friendships and romance. I’ve studied schools, universities and workplaces. When college students explain to me how dividing their attention plays out in the dining hall, some refer to a “rule of three.” In a conversation among five or six people at dinner, you have to check that three people are paying attention — heads up — before you give yourself permission to look down at your phone. So conversation proceeds, but with different people having their heads up at different times. The effect is what you would expect: Conversation is kept relatively light, on topics where people feel they can drop in and out.
Young people spoke to me enthusiastically about the good things that flow from a life lived by the rule of three, which you can follow not only during meals but all the time. First of all, there is the magic of the always available elsewhere. You can put your attention wherever you want it to be. You can always be heard. You never have to be bored. When you sense that a lull in the conversation is coming, you can shift your attention from the people in the room to the world you can find on your phone. But the students also described a sense of loss.
One 15-year-old I interviewed at a summer camp talked about her reaction when she went out to dinner with her father and he took out his phone to add “facts” to their conversation. “Daddy,” she said, “stop Googling. I want to talk to you.” A 15-year-old boy told me that someday he wanted to raise a family, not the way his parents are raising him (with phones out during meals and in the park and during his school sports events) but the way his parents think they are raising him — with no phones at meals and plentiful family conversation. Informative speech on George Stinney Jr.
A. Info research analysis
The general purpose of the speech was to inform people about the civil injustice being done against the African American community in the United States. The specific purpose of the speech was to portray to the audience how an innocent 14-year old black boy suffered in the hands of the South Carolina State law enforcing officers. He was falsely accused of killing two white girls and electrocuted within two months after conviction.
I decided the topic of my speech after perusing through all the suggested topics ad found that the story of George Stinney Jr. was touching and emotional entirely.
This topic benefits the audience and the society in general by giving them an insight of the cruelty that the American law system has against the African American community. The audience gets to know how the shady investigations were done with claims that George had pleaded guilty to the charges of murder when there was no real evidence tying him to the crime or a signed plea agreement.
The alternative view that I found in the research was the version of the investigating officer of the case who claimed that the 14-year old boy managed to kill two girls aged 11 and 7 with a blunt object and ditch them in a nearby trench. This alternative point of view did not make sense because it is hard for a 14-year old boy to use the force that was reported by postmortem results to kill the girls. Therefore, I knew everything was a lie and I had to take the point of view of George’s innocence.

You are given a PC and you are faced with this scenario: you don’t know the password to the PC which means you can’t login so you can use a forensic tool like FTK IMAGER to capture the hard drive as a bit-for-bit forensic image AND/OR
1. The hard drive is either soldiered onto the motherboard (there are some new hard drives like this!) or cannot be removed because the screws are stripped (this has happened to me);
2. Even if you figured out the password or got an admin password the PC may have its USB ports blocked via a GPO policy (this is very common in corporations now);
3. Even if you can get the GPO policy overridden you may have some concerns about putting it on the network (which is true especially if you are dealing with malware).
So what you can you do? The best solution is to boot the PC up into forensically sound environment that lets you bypass the password aspect; GPO policy; etc and take a bit-for-bit image. One software that has done the job very well for me is Paladin.
How to get points
If you can send me a screenshot showing me that you had installed Paladin .ISO and made your USB device a bootable device with Paladin using Rufus then you get 10 points.
If you can send me a screenshot showing that you had a chance to boot your computer into Paladin then you will earn an extra 10 points. It is not necessary for you to take a forensic image of your PC but I have included generic instructions here.

NCR Country Club started out as a benefit for thousands of National Cash Register employ-
ees. By the late 1990s, those employees were aging rapidly and the core membership needed
to be increased. NCRCC offers two golf courses. One is an award winning, championship-
hosting course on the PGA tour. But it wasn’t attracting new members, especially younger
families. This case is about a membership study done as part of a larger management
initiative to evaluate several strategic directions the club might take to expand its member-

NCR Country Club (NCRCC) started in 1954 as an employee benefit of the National
Cash Register Co. but is now an open-membership club. This country club located
in Kettering, Ohio (near Dayton), hosts two 18-hole golf courses. The NCR South
course, a par 71 championship course of 6,824 yards of heavily wooded rolling
countryside, the site of the 1996 PGA Championship, the 1986 U.S. Open, and the
1998 U.S. Mid-Amateur, is consistently ranked by Golf Digest as one of the top
100 courses in the United States. The prairie-links style of the North course, a
6,358-yard par 70 course, is considered challenging. In southwestern Ohio, the
active golf season usually lasts from May through October. Within a 30-minute radius
of NCRCC, the avid golfer will find eight other private golf and country clubs as well
as 29 public golf clubs and courses.
In 1997, after the purchase of NCR Corporation by AT&T, AT&T provided
a $4.0 million interest-free loan to raze the original clapboard-sided clubhouse and
replace it with an all-brick colonial-style facility. Boasting both formal and informal,
inside and outside eating facilities as well as banquet and party rooms, the members
voted that the new clubhouse would be totally smoke-free. The rich cherrywood
paneling and the hunter green and burgundy décor mellow the high-ceiling, interior
spaces. Golf memberships are $20,000 with social (nongolf) memberships at $1,000
each. NCR employees did not and do not pay membership fees to join. Additionally,
each member must spend $150 per quarter in dining receipts and pay $225 (golf) or
$160 (social) in annual dues.
Needing to attract new members to support the renovated facility after AT&T
divested itself of NCR and given the growing age of its members, NCRCC
implemented an aggressive membership campaign in 1998. The goal was to bring
golf memberships to 680 and attract as many social memberships as possible. After
only moderate success, NCRCC commissioned McMahon Group to assist with
strategic planning.

Abstract: This paper is dealing with the importance of business processes regarding costs
tracking and cost management in healthcare institutions. Various changes within the health
care system and funding of hospitals require the introduction of management information
systems and cost accounting. The introduction of cost accounting in public hospitals would
allow the planning and control of costs, monitoring of costs per patient or service and the
calculation of indicators for the analysis and assessment of the economic performance of the
business of public hospitals and lead to the transparency of budget spending. A model that
would be suited to the introduction in the public hospital is full cost allocation model based on
activities or processes that occur, known as the ABC method. Given that this is a calculation
of cost of services provided through various internal business processes, it is important to
identify all business processes in order to be able to calculate the costs incurred by services.
Although the hospital does not do business with the aim to make a profit, they must follow all
the costs (direct and indirect) to be able to calculate the full costs i.e. the price of the service
provided. In addition, the long-term sustainability of business activities in terms of funding
difficulties and the continuous growth of cost of services provided, hospitals must control and
reduce the cost of the program and specific activities. Therefore, the objective of this paper is
to point out the importance of business processes while introducing ABC method.

The WIDA Consortium is pleased to provide this collection of sample
ACCESS for ELLs® test items for educators interested in a better understanding
of this English language proficiency assessment. While the security of test items
in actual use in WIDA assessments is a top priority, it is also extremely important
that educators have good, freely available sample items that provide a strong
sense for them, their students, parents, and the general public of what taking
the ACCESS for ELLs® English language proficiency assessment entails. In
addition, educators in university preparation programs can benefit from learning
more about ACCESS for ELLs® prior to their work within school settings. While
familiarity with the “look and feel” of the test is an important consideration,
teachers can also greatly benefit from seeing connections between ACCESS for
ELLs® test items and the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards upon
which the items are directly based.
We want to encourage teachers to “teach to the standards, not to the test.”
More specifically, we want to promote the use of standards to guide students’
language learning rather than focusing instruction on preparing them for possible
test items. In seeing the close relationship between the standards and the test,
we believe that teachers can feel confident that by incorporating the standards
into classroom instruction and assessment, they will better prepare their students
for linguistic proficiency and in turn, provide access to academic success. Such
preparation will, over time, help boost the academic achievement of English
Language Learners, which should be reflected in future test scores.

I both agree and disagree with the authors argument: Men and women have different needs,goals,values and communication styles. While there are obvious differences between the genders, such as testosterone balances- I feel that this statement looks over the big picture, we are all different as individuals, not necessarily as generalized groups (pink and blue). Before I get into my firm opinion on this topic, I would like to address that while this may not be true to the date, back in the day I believe that this would be more of an accurate statement. Men were born into families to earn the money and women were born and married into families to take care of the home and family- so back then, yes, I would agree that they had different goals, values and communication styles. However, these days there is far more equity in gender roles than the old timers could have ever imagined, now there are stay at home dads and traveling business moms, a new norm. There are plenty of men who share the same charisma as women, and vice versa. I would like to respectfully point out gender changes, as I feel it is appropriate for this topic: a great example of a man or woman whom shared the same goals,values,needs,etc. to the point of conversion. We are all different and with that being said, being comfortable in our own skin, which requires meeting our own needs, has nothing to do with our gender... in my opinion.

I am conflicted about this topic. I do believe that in general, men and women communicate differently and have different communication styles. I do not believe this is black and white though. I tend to think that men and women have way more commonalities in communication styles than they have differences. I find that many women are really into "gossip" and or just being very chatty in general, whereas men tend to be more reserved and quiet. Of course this doesn't pertain to every man and woman. COLLEGE students tell me they know how to look someone in the eye and type on their phones at the same time, their split attention undetected. They say it’s a skill they mastered in middle school when they wanted to text in class without getting caught. Now they use it when they want to be both with their friends and, as some put it, “elsewhere.”
These days, we feel less of a need to hide the fact that we are dividing our attention. In a 2015 study by the Pew Research Center, 89 percent of cellphone owners said they had used their phones during the last social gathering they attended. But they weren’t happy about it; 82 percent of adults felt that the way they used their phones in social settings hurt the conversation.
I’ve been studying the psychology of online connectivity for more than 30 years. For the past five, I’ve had a special focus: What has happened to face-to-face conversation in a world where so many people say they would rather text than talk? I’ve looked at families, friendships and romance. I’ve studied schools, universities and workplaces. When college students explain to me how dividing their attention plays out in the dining hall, some refer to a “rule of three.” In a conversation among five or six people at dinner, you have to check that three people are paying attention — heads up — before you give yourself permission to look down at your phone. So conversation proceeds, but with different people having their heads up at different times. The effect is what you would expect: Conversation is kept relatively light, on topics where people feel they can drop in and out.
Young people spoke to me enthusiastically about the good things that flow from a life lived by the rule of three, which you can follow not only during meals but all the time. First of all, there is the magic of the always available elsewhere. You can put your attention wherever you want it to be. You can always be heard. You never have to be bored. When you sense that a lull in the conversation is coming, you can shift your attention from the people in the room to the world you can find on your phone. But the students also described a sense of loss.
One 15-year-old I interviewed at a summer camp talked about her reaction when she went out to dinner with her father and he took out his phone to add “facts” to their conversation. “Daddy,” she said, “stop Googling. I want to talk to you.” A 15-year-old boy told me that someday he wanted to raise a family, not the way his parents are raising him (with phones out during meals and in the park and during his school sports events) but the way his parents think they are raising him — with no phones at meals and plentiful family conversation. One college junior tried to capture what is wrong about life in his generation. “Our texts are fine,” he said. “It’s what texting does to our conversati.

A. Info research analysis
The general purpose of the speech was to inform people about the civil injustice being done against the African American community in the United States. The specific purpose of the speech was to portray to the audience how an innocent 14-year old black boy suffered in the hands of the South Carolina State law enforcing officers. He was falsely accused of killing two white girls and electrocuted within two months after conviction.
I decided the topic of my speech after perusing through all the suggested topics ad found that the story of George Stinney Jr. was touching and emotional entirely.
This topic benefits the audience and the society in general by giving them an insight of the cruelty that the American law system has against the African American community. The audience gets to know how the shady investigations were done with claims that George had pleaded guilty to the charges of murder when there was no real evidence tying him to the crime or a signed plea agreement.
The alternative view that I found in the research was the version of the investigating officer of the case who claimed that the 14-year old boy managed to kill two girls aged 11 and 7 with a blunt object and ditch them in a nearby trench. This alternative point of view did not make sense because it is hard for a 14-year old boy to use the force that was reported by postmortem results to kill the girls. Therefore, I knew everything was a lie and I had to take the point of view of George’s innocence.

You are given a PC and you are faced with this scenario: you don’t know the password to the PC which means you can’t login so you can use a forensic tool like FTK IMAGER to capture the hard drive as a bit-for-bit forensic image AND/OR
1. The hard drive is either soldiered onto the motherboard (there are some new hard drives like this!) or cannot be removed because the screws are stripped (this has happened to me);
2. Even if you figured out the password or got an admin password the PC may have its USB ports blocked via a GPO policy (this is very common in corporations now);
3. Even if you can get the GPO policy overridden you may have some concerns about putting it on the network (which is true especially if you are dealing with malware).
So what you can you do? The best solution is to boot the PC up into forensically sound environment that lets you bypass the password aspect; GPO policy; etc and take a bit-for-bit image. One software that has done the job very well for me is Paladin.
How to get points
If you can send me a screenshot showing me that you had installed Paladin .ISO and made your USB device a bootable device with Paladin using Rufus then you get 10 points.

NCR Country Club (NCRCC) started in 1954 as an employee benefit of the National
Cash Register Co. but is now an open-membership club. This country club located
in Kettering, Ohio (near Dayton), hosts two 18-hole golf courses. The NCR South
course, a par 71 championship course of 6,824 yards of heavily wooded rolling
countryside, the site of the 1996 PGA Championship, the 1986 U.S. Open, and the
1998 U.S. Mid-Amateur, is consistently ranked by Golf Digest as one of the top
100 courses in the United States. The prairie-links style of the North course, a
6,358-yard par 70 course, is considered challenging. In southwestern Ohio, the
active golf season usually lasts from May through October. Within a 30-minute radius
of NCRCC, the avid golfer will find eight other private golf and country clubs as well
as 29 public golf clubs and courses.
In 1997, after the purchase of NCR Corporation by AT&T, AT&T provided
a $4.0 million interest-free loan to raze the original clapboard-sided clubhouse and
replace it with an all-brick colonial-style facility. Boasting both formal and informal,
inside and outside eating facilities as well as banquet and party rooms, the members
voted that the new clubhouse would be totally smoke-free. The rich cherrywood
paneling and the hunter green and burgundy décor mellow the high-ceiling, interior
spaces. Golf memberships are $20,000 with social (nongolf) memberships at $1,000
each. NCR employees did not and do not pay membership fees to join. Additionally,
each member must spend $150 per quarter in dining receipts and pay $225 (golf) or
$160 (social) in annual dues.
Needing to attract new members to support the renovated facility after AT&T
divested itself of NCR and given the growing age of its members, NCRCC
implemented an aggressive membership campaign in 1998. The goal was to bring
golf memberships to 680 and attract as many social memberships as possible. After
only moderate success, NCRCC commissioned McMahon Group to assist with

Abstract: This paper is dealing with the importance of business processes regarding costs
tracking and cost management in healthcare institutions. Various changes within the health
care system and funding of hospitals require the introduction of management information
systems and cost accounting. The introduction of cost accounting in public hospitals would
allow the planning and control of costs, monitoring of costs per patient or service and the
calculation of indicators for the analysis and assessment of the economic performance of the
business of public hospitals and lead to the transparency of budget spending. A model that
would be suited to the introduction in the public hospital is full cost allocation model based on
activities or processes that occur, known as the ABC method. Given that this is a calculation
of cost of services provided through various internal business processes, it is important to
identify all business processes in order to be able to calculate the costs incurred by services.
Although the hospital does not do business with the aim to make a profit, they must follow all
the costs (direct and indirect) to be able to calculate the full costs i.e. the price of the service
provided. In addition, the long-term sustainability of business activities in terms of funding
difficulties and the continuous growth of cost of services provided, hospitals must control and
reduce the cost of the program and specific activities. Therefore, the objective of this paper is
to point out the importance of business processes while introducing ABC method.

1 Introduction
In recent years, the efficiency of the management in health care services and the system of
quality in health care institutions significantly increased. Patients expect more from
healthcare providers and higher standards of care. At the same time, those who pay for
health services are increasingly concerned about the rising costs of health care services, but

Foreword: WIDA ACCESS for ELLs® Sample Items
The WIDA Consortium is pleased to provide this collection of sample
ACCESS for ELLs® test items for educators interested in a better understanding
of this English language proficiency assessment. While the security of test items
in actual use in WIDA assessments is a top priority, it is also extremely important
that educators have good, freely available sample items that provide a strong
sense for them, their students, parents, and the general public of what taking
the ACCESS for ELLs® English language proficiency assessment entails. In
addition, educators in university preparation programs can benefit from learning
more about ACCESS for ELLs® prior to their work within school settings. While
familiarity with the “look and feel” of the test is an important consideration,
teachers can also greatly benefit from seeing connections between ACCESS for
ELLs® test items and the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards upon
which the items are directly based.
We want to encourage teachers to “teach to the standards, not to the test.”
More specifically, we want to promote the use of standards to guide students’
language learning rather than focusing instruction on preparing them for possible
test items. In seeing the close relationship between the standards and the test,
we believe that teachers can feel confident that by incorporating the standards
into classroom instruction and assessment, they will better prepare their students
for linguistic proficiency and in turn, provide access to academic success. Such
preparation will, over time, help boost the academic achievement of English
Language Learners, which should be reflected in future test scores.

A strategic plan specifies how a particular program will realize its objectives. With a strategic plan, it is possible to focus efforts on the accomplishment of a program's goals. A strategic plan provides a link between what a program seeks to accomplish and the required actions for successful program implementation (Kettner, Moroney & Martin, 2017). A business plan, on the contrary, defines the path of business. It includes a company's organizational structure, marketing plan as well as financial projections (Kettner et al., 2017).
Impact of Business Plan on a Program’s Strategic Plan
The logic model can help understand the impact of a business plan on a program’s strategic plan. The logic model comprises five major elements such as inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, and impacts. The inputs are the resources such as funding, facilities, staff and volunteers needed for a given program. The activities are the events or actions of a program such as running the program and data collection. Outputs are the direct products and the desired effects of a program. Impact recalls the goals of a program (Hodges & Videto, 2011).
The financial projection element of a business plan can impact the strategic planning process of a program. This medium is because the allocated budget, as well as its parameters, must be assessed to ascertain if the funds available are enough to perform the tasks and activities of a program, which is what amounts to strategic planning. Hodges and Videto (2011) asserted that the resources required to implement a program, including those available and those needed, should be reviewed to determine if there are enough resources to achieve the goals of a program. The budget must include allocations for facilities and space, staff, supplies and materials, marketing resources as well as other operational expenses. An accurate budget is vital for the success of a program, and it is critical to consider all the possible expenses plus income.
The relationship between Business Planning and Program Planning
Programs usually face resource constraints, including the difficulty to attract funding streams. Business planning, according to the United States Small Business Administration (n.d.) is a methodology that can be used to address the challenge of financial constraints systematically. A business plan can demonstrate the link or association between a proposed program and social return. Through a funded plan, it is possible for a program to secure funding sources. As such a program plan must include a budget that specifies the number of revenues needed to achieve the program's goals and objectives. From this medium perspective, a budget is considered as an integral component rather than a stand-alone activity of program planning process (Kettner, Moroney and Martin, 2017).

Whether you plan to apply for a business loan or not, you need to have a roadmap or plan to get you from where you are to the successful operation of your business. The pages that follow demonstrate the content of a simple business plan which has been found to be successful in obtaining startup funds from banks. You are encouraged to use all or whatever portions of this fit your business.
Please DO NOT write page after page of drivel or copy from someone else’s plan or one of those templates you can find on the Internet. In most cases this will not “sound" like you, nor will it be short and to the point. Those who read these things are busy people and will not be inclined to spend time reading irrelevant paperwork.
Throughout this sample, there are
italicized
comments which are meant to guide you in preparation. If you follow this format it is reasonable to expect a finished document with 15-20 pages plus the supporting documents in the last section.
If you have good quality pictures of your space, products or other items, you might include them as another way to convey just what you plan to do. A map of your location, diagram of floor space, or other illustration is also sometimes helpful. On the other hand, do not add materials simply to “bulk-up” the report.
While content is critical, it is also important to make this presentation look as good as possible. For this course, you will create the business plan in Word and submit the plan and all attachments through the Assignment drop box. That means all attachments have to be in digital form. For a bank loan or an investor, you would normally provide them with a print version. Print the pages in black ink on a high quality tinted letterhead paper. Color is not necessary but would add some interest in headlines, etc. Bind the document in a presentation folder or with a spiral binding. Don’t simply punch a staple in the upper left corner.
If your were going to pursue a bank loan or an investor, it would be normal to take this business plan to your SCORE counselor for a review and critique.

By way of review, here is a concise list of the basic requirements for a Business Plan, as recommended by the MIT Enterprise Forum:

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 1. 1 Is Technology Causing a Decline in Communication? Technology is in the modern generation that cannot be avoided. In these modern times, the mobile phone usage as means of communication has become a norm, an essential means of communication. Our lives have been forced to divert from the traditional way of communication through letters or landline telephones, and new rules are emanating to ease social interaction. The technology of the cellphone is quite helpful especially in a family setting where couples need constant communication. In this era, where the couples are geographically separated most of the times due to work related issue then we cannot run away from this important technology. Many will either call or use text messages. Mobile phones also are used in different social network sites that include Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. These sites help in easy and constant communication. Despite the many benefits brought about by the use of mobile phone, the technology has deeply caused setbacks in many families. These are in most cases where the technology is misused or overused. In a study done by Miller-Ott based on an expectancy violation theory approach (Burgon 1978) to examine expectations that romantic partners have on phone usage with college students revealed that the couples expected total and undivided attention on formal dates and when spending time together. On top of this, the study also identified the individual expectations that amounted to violation due to lack of proper communication. Looking keenly at this research then it is clear that mobile phone can cause break-ups in married or dating couples due to overuse of their time in mobile related sites and application like Instagram or Facebook. Couples dating need this undivided attention especially when they go out for dinner or a walk. As such when
- 2. these couples fail to put control as to when to visit the social sites then it can easily lead to misunderstanding. It is quite important that couples set clear guidelines on when to visit such sites. From research also, it’s clear that over 50% of the communication that we do, a lot of it is communicated through our nonverbal expressions. So when couples entirely depend on communication via the phone, then they miss a lot of the unspoken word and expressions. This brings on a lot of uncertainty as there is the inability to predict or explains someone’s attitudes and or behavior. To this regard then couples live in fear as one cannot tell for sure his/her partner’s true feelings. This has largely left many couples in distress or psychologically stressed up especially when trying to resolve family disputes. No matter how helpful the mobile phone is the face to face talk presents one with not just the verbal but also the nonverbal communication. According to A.R, L. Duran (2012), romantic couples at times get their relationships to problems brought about by the technology since the phones are giving them more contact time than necessary. He argues on the basis that the more you keep on chatting, the more prone you become to making unnecessary arguments. Before this technology emerged, people relied on letters which took a bit of time from the sender to the receiver. Due to this reason, the reply took time. As a result, couples were eager waiting for the reply. As a result it was healthy and made the divorce rate be at a lower rate than in modern days. With constant communication, no one has that eagerness and at most times that surprise is not there. Relationship flourishes in such surprises and without it the relationship may become dull ending in divorce thus the high rate of divorce experienced in today’s world. As a result of the unending calls and texts many people have been forced to come up with rules on when should one call or text. These rules, for example of calling twice or thrice a day can result in either good relation or end up causing problems
- 3. due to lack of understanding from either partner. In such cases where one partner’s job is too demanding, the other couple may either feel ignored or unwanted hence creating family issues. To some, the cellphone habit is too troublesome while to others it is fun. If couples have this diverse point of view then their relationship may be constrained and full of problems. This is quite an area where even psychologists and counselors have difficulty in even coming up with a solution! Phone addicts have difficulties in socialization making it more difficult for the young couples to live in sweet harmony. Other issues are coming up due to the shift in the preexisting societal rules which C.Marvin (1998) calls cultural innovation is that one must declares their status in social networks. Due to this mandatory attachment in our relationships then it results in a conflict when one fails to connect via web. If one declares his /her status wrongly in social networking sites, a bigger problem may arise. Before the introduction of a mobile phone, people did not have to go to this extent. Now the issues come in even when the couple’s proposing to each other do it online. The impact of such important occasion is lost and lacks tastes. Utz and Beukeboom state that “… changing the relationship status is a major step in a relationship and can also alter dynamics in the offline relationship”(pg. 516) when one partner fails to update their relationship status from ‘single’ to ‘in relationship with…’ the other partner may take it as a bad sign or deem it an assign that their love is not being reciprocate, resulting in breakups or divorce. In former days, dating was defined by a series of face to face talk. People met, talked and spent time with each other and with their families more making them understand each other better and evaluated their compatibility in person. Core relationship majored on the face to face rather than phone. In this modern time, there is a drastic shift in dating. The technology through the phone which mostly acted as supplementary in relationships now seems to have taken a major role in the relationship. This has ended up causing people to be
- 4. strangers in families since dating and marriage become technology oriented. A situation arises when even different people in culture, race and from different continents ends up in marriage due to the help of the phone. Their marriage in most circumstances fails as the two did not fully interrogate their character fully. Into regards to texting, which has become a major source for people in a relationship especially those aged 17-27 has become quite rampant. This is more done the mentioned group than their older peers. Grant (2011) sampled several students from different colleges and reported that over 90% connected with their romantic partners at least once in a day. Understanding why people text finds different causes. In some research, it was found that people it complicated to manage the demands of an in-person conversation with saying hello, hugging, kissing, smiling and keeping eye contact; hence prefer to text .texting also helps those shy and nervous to avoid potentially stressful encounters. Texting may help especially when testing waters for first dating when you are not sure it’s a yes or a no. Despite all this texting, it still has its effects on interpersonal communication. Texting is quite a time consuming as once it begins, it keeps on going on. When one receives the text, he feels obliged to reply.to some it will be okay, but those busy may feel like they are being prevented from doing other activities hence end up in misunderstanding. This brings about conflict among people and in such cases of the family it may cause break up. Texting is often filled up with confusion with confusion. Without nonverbal expressions, text can be misconstrued ending up in anxiety and uncertainty. On top it adds psychological distance .this distance may end up making one to say what he/she generally cannot say when near. Weisskirch and Devi 2012) argues that one in every five people who text say have received the dreaded ‘breakup text.' This Kind of text is better when told in the face to face communication for at times it can even result in suicide.
- 5. A person easily absorbs the shock in a face to face chat than in texts. A big number of the supporters believe that the technology links and maintains relationship in families. Research done on young couples aged around 18-28 has a higher positive impact on 45% as compared to the older group. The argument is that since the technology is with us, we can only embrace it and learn how to make it help the society but cannot run away from it. Mobile phones help in linking people to different countries or countries. Once linked the propellers of mobile phones believe it’s the couple who should try and bring about the necessary middle ground where the phone will not act as a distractor. Due to the unavoidable separation of married or dating couples mostly work related, couples stay much into contact. This bridges the huge gap and the husband or wife presence is felt at all times. This can be helpful to beat especially the saying ‘out of sight out of mind’ which can easily cause the breakup. The constant talking also reduces time and loneliness. Looking closely at these arguments, then it is of realization that when it comes to dealing with society and especially couples, then it is only good for integration of both technology and face to face talk. The technology will shorten the distance and save time as the face to face helps one understands each other mood and attitude. The face to face communications also reveals at a great extend the behavior. Meaning the couple may not be susceptible in bringing up a complete society and proper socialization.
