Introduction: Please refer to the rubric in Blackboard for grading this assignment before starting. In Assignment 2 you conducted an On-Site Field Study of the Supervisor Champion’s work environment. From this visit you learned a great deal about what this Champion does and about the many tools, techniques, and technical systems involved in their work area. You also learned about a product or service that is manufactured, constructed, or provided in this work environment and the direct reports that they supervise, motivate, and assess on a daily basis. The purpose of the Assignment 3 will be for you to learn firsthand what it is like to supervise, motivate, and evaluate the performance of others in a real work environment. Be sure to organize this report well and use level two headings.
Arranging the Interview:
My recommendation is for you to meet face to face with your Supervisor Champion for this interview. If you hurry this assignment, don’t ask questions, and only collect a minimal amount of information it will be difficult to prepare a worthwhile 5-page report. If time is not available for your Supervisor to meet with you it may be necessary to conduct the Interview over the telephone. Decide what is best for you and your Supervisor Champion. It will be a big help if you provide your questions to the Supervisor a week or so before the Interview.
Creating the Interview Questions:
The Interview questions you develop should concentrate on the tasks the Supervisor enjoys best as well as others that are most challenging. Some of these questions will be apparent when you observe things happening in the Supervisor’s work environment. Others will be more generic to the role of the Supervisor in any work environment. One of the most interesting ways to get talk flowing in an interview may be to ask your supervisor to tell an interesting story or provide an example of something they experienced in their work related to one of the questions being asked. Some examples of content to address through your interview questions are shown below. Expand by applying your own thinking here:
a. Key duties of the Supervisor Champion.
b. Skills needed to be a successful supervisor or manager.
c. Discussion of leadership approach. (Expand providing examples)
d. Description of their most challenging issues.
e. What supervisory tasks are most rewarding?
f. Suggestions to one aspiring to pursue a career requiring supervisory leadership.
g. What do you feel many students need to learn beyond what is learned at the
University to be an effective Supervisor?

3. Requirements:
1. Use 12 pt. Times New Roman with double spacing and 1”
margins all around.
2. Refer to the eBook, “Practitioner’s Guidebook for
Developing Successful Research Proposals in Science,
Engineering and Technology,” for information on levels of
headings, short and long headings, and proper citation methods.
Note: Information provided from your sponsor must be
presented using direct quotes or paraphrased content. Both
options have citation requirements that must be followed.
Include bibliographical data in your Reference List (Not
counted in the 5-page limit).
3. Make sure you organize this report well and use level 2
headings to separate changes in content.
4. Provide your name, assignment 3, course number, Instructor’s
name, and the date centered on one line in the header. Use caps
and lower case. Do not use a Title Page.
5. Drop down two single spaced lines (In the text area – not in
the header) and provide the Title of the Assignment using a
(level 1 headline).
6. Drop down two single spaced lines and provide the following
level 2 heading: “Background for Interview.” Include the
following information on the next two or three lines. This will
be done with complete sentences in text using double spacing.
a. Name of Supervisor Champion and their title
b. Name of the Company and address
c. Department or work environment studied
d. Date of the On-Site Interview
e. Name of the product or Service
7. Using a (Level 1 heading) provide this title “Interview
Questions and Responses.” In this section provide your
questions and responses using complete sentences and double
spacing. Provide the response after each question. Use Level 2
headings when necessary.
8. Prepare your Reference List using requirements in the eBook.
4. Once again, review the grading rubric for this assignment to
make sure all items are effectively addressed.
9. Run a spellcheck on your work and then proofread it yourself
several times to make sure the work is error-free.
10. Save your file as (a3_itec4293_lastname). Note: If there are
others in class with the same surname follow your name in the
file with first initial. Failure to follow these instructions for
labeling exactly as stated will mean 10 points deduction from
the assessment.
11. Proofread one last time to avoid grammatical errors. If you
have difficulty writing, have an experienced reader read this.
12. Upload your file to Blackboard by the due date. Late or
emailed work will not be accepted.
If you have questions please post those on the Discussion Board
in Blackboard so I can help.
(Conducting the Interview)
Ask one question at a time and write down the Supervisor
Champion’s comments after each question. You may then want
to ask a follow-up question; write down this response. Then
repeat the process until all questions are asked and responses
annotated. Since you have already conducted a field study on
the Supervisor’s environment, you should be able to get
technical when it comes to interesting features of their work
role. Make this a report that will teach me new things and be
fun to read. Caution: this is professional report so avoid slang.
