COVID-19 Pandemic Housing Boom and Its Impact on Household Finance and US Eco...AkashSharma618775
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the US housing market has grown at its fastest pace in the past decade.
In this paper, three pandemic related factors are analyzed which could possibly cause the housing boom, as well as
its effects on household finance and the US economy. First, housing supply has been kept low by a pandemic
induced labor shortage as well as high input prices such as lumber. Second, large number of households working
from home due to the pandemic has led to increased housing demand. Third, historical low federal funds rate and
mortgage rates have encouraged housing mortgage borrowing. As a result, the high cost of housing has had
negative impacts on consumer finance, especially to people hit hard by COVID-19 with low income or
unemployment. Government policy should be enacted to alleviate the effects of a high cost of housing. Yet, this
housing boom has not reached pre-2008 levels so a severe economic crisis is unlikely.
How The End of the Pandemic Could Result In A Housing BoomTal Rappleyea
Mortgage relief and eviction bans enacted during the pandemic are coming to an end, which could result in a housing boom. As grace periods expire, many homeowners are facing large amounts of back payments. However, those behind on their mortgages can sell their homes and use the profits to pay off debts, increasing housing supply. At the same time, there is increased demand from renters facing eviction, driving up home prices. This mini-boom could displace some groups and exacerbate economic and social disparities if certain populations cannot afford increasingly expensive housing options.
2019 Election| Housing and Real Estate| Canada| July 2019paul young cpa, cga
Paul Young, a CPA and expert in various financial fields, discusses making housing more affordable in Canada. He outlines issues like rising real estate prices, lack of housing supply, and the need for cooperation across levels of government. New technologies like 3D printing offer promising solutions. The 2019 federal election will likely focus on housing affordability as no party has sufficiently addressed systemic problems to date. All stakeholders must work together using innovative ideas to increase housing availability and affordability going forward.
Market performance remains strong globally with low volatility, though central bank asset purchases have contributed to this and private sector leverage is high. The trajectory of normalization by policymakers will be a challenge in 2018. One outcome of easy money is that private sector leverage is now higher than before the financial crisis.

Russia's largest oil company, Rosneft, could take control of the American oil refiner Citgo. Venezuela owns Citgo and used a 49.9% stake in the company as collateral for a $1.5 billion loan from Rosneft. If Venezuela defaults on the loan, Rosneft would gain majority ownership of Citgo. There are concerns this could threaten U.S. energy security and national security since Rosneft is close to the Russian government. Citgo operates 3 refineries and pipelines in Texas, Louisiana, and Illinois that employ thousands and have large economic impacts on their local communities.
Nissan is recalling over 2.1 million vehicles globally due to a faulty engine control system which could cause engines to stall. The recall affects 9 models produced in Japan between 2003 and 2006.
China and the US have made progress towards an agreement at the upcoming G20 summit to set targets for reducing global trade imbalances. An adviser to China's central bank said finance chiefs had good discussions around this issue at their recent meeting.

2020 Economic Review Final: An Annual Review of New Jersey's EconomyNicoleMSandelier
2020 was a year unlike any other we’ve experienced during our lifetime. The novel coronavirus pandemic caused havoc on New Jersey’s public health and economy. The pandemic caused government-mandated, nonessential business closures and stay-at-home orders that were in effect from mid-March to mid-June 2020 in the Garden State with many businesses continuing to operate at restricted capacity through year end.
➢ This resulted in record high unemployment rates and record contraction in GDP.
➢ Small businesses were devastated and many were forced to shut their doors, either temporarily or permanently.
➢ Early data indicates that the pandemic had a disproportional impact on minority workers and workers of color.
➢ In total, over 1.9 million people filed unemployment claims and received more than $20 billion in unemployment benefits.
➢ Personal income increased despite record high unemployment, due to state unemployment benefits, extended benefits, and federal stimulus monies.
The goal of this research is to provide readers with a detailed review of key statistics on New Jersey’s economic activity, otherwise known as economic indicators. These indicators help to judge the overall health of an economy. Many sources have yet to report 2020 data, including the U.S. Census Bureau. As such, this is a working document that will be modified to include statistics relating to race, gender and households when updated data becomes available.

The World Bank has revised its global GDP growth forecast for 2021 upwards to 5.6% due to strong recoveries expected in the US and China. However, emerging markets and developing economies continue to struggle with the pandemic and its economic impacts. The World Bank cut India's GDP growth forecast to 8.3% for fiscal year 2021-22, down from its previous estimate of 10.1%, due to the negative effects of a severe second COVID wave in India. Several other organizations like Crisil have also lowered their growth projections for India amid concerns over reduced private consumption and investment.

SEBI doubled the investment limit for retail investors in an initial public offering to Rs 2 lakh. This will reduce multiple applications from one investor.
The US and Russia will formally join the East Asia Summit, an Asian economic bloc, despite China's attempt to diminish US influence in the region.
GlaxoSmithKline agreed to pay $750 million for manufacturing and distributing adulterated drugs from a Puerto Rico plant, with $600 million to settle false healthcare claims.
Monetary policy is entering a phase of normalization as rates rise and central bank liquidity is reduced. However, the transition will likely be gradual, and liquidity will still lubricate financial systems into 2018. While monetary policy may become less accommodative, fiscal policies in advanced economies will likely shift toward less restrictive or even expansionary stances. Financing is expected to remain available due to optimism about growth and inflation, especially with continued weak commodity prices. However, the transition to more normal conditions presents some risk given the exceptional extensions of liquidity in recent years.
The document provides an overview of recent global economic developments and risks. It discusses the surprising pickup in global growth despite headwinds, with growth momentum becoming more evident in the EU. However, the US growth outlook has been reduced due to concerns about losing momentum from fiscal policy changes. Commodity exporters continue to struggle with lower revenues and diversifying growth. Financial stability risks need monitoring in emerging markets. Strong credit growth in China supports growth but debt levels raise risks. Markets have performed well with low volatility, but this raises concerns about a potential market flare up given rich valuations and policy uncertainties.
Despite natural disasters in the US, growth remains solid globally and in the US. All major economies are experiencing synchronized expansion for the first time since the financial crisis. Financial markets have responded positively but concerns remain about potential policy missteps and geopolitical tensions. Inflation is still muted but asset prices have risen sharply.
The document summarizes various news articles from 25-31 October 2010. It discusses topics such as SEBI raising investment limits for retail investors in public issues to Rs. 2 lakh, China becoming Volvo's third largest market, the G20 agreement increasing emerging markets' quota in the IMF, China's plan to reduce its trade deficit and gas emissions, and Nissan recalling over 2.1 million cars due to an engine control issue. It also mentions the launch of an Indian software service called 'Bharat Berry' as an alternative to BlackBerry, the US and Russia joining the East Asia Summit, and GlaxoSmithKline agreeing to pay $750 million to settle allegations of manufacturing adulterated drugs.
The US hopes to modernize and overhaul the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to increase its ability to influence global oil markets. The SPR holds 695 million barrels of oil in underground salt caverns along the Gulf Coast, but changes in oil infrastructure and aging facilities have reduced its capacity to quickly release oil. The Obama administration wants to sell SPR oil to fund upgrades that would allow more flexible and rapid releases. Options being considered include building new terminals, reversing pipeline flows, and creating fuel reserves in other parts of the country. The overhaul aims to allow the SPR to better respond to potential supply disruptions and price spikes.

The UK economy is entering a recession as the Bank of England aggressively raises interest rates to combat high inflation. Mortgage rates have surged close to financial crisis levels, weighing on the housing market. Small businesses are struggling with higher borrowing costs. The government faces increased debt costs as rates rise. Adnoc and India's Gail signed an agreement to explore LNG supply opportunities and decarbonization projects. The US suggested the EU consider applying lessons from sanctions on Russia to also target exports to China.
Coca-Cola reported higher third quarter profits with revenue up 5% and worldwide volume rising 5%. The World Bank warned of risks from rising capital flows to East Asia and said authorities need to carefully manage inflows to avoid bubbles. Apple CEO Steve Jobs declared victory over BlackBerry, citing Apple's 70% jump in quarterly profits and strong sales of iPhones and iPads.
The document discusses key aspects of the US economy, including that it is the largest in nominal terms, representing 22% of global GDP. The economy has steady growth, low unemployment and inflation. Major industries include agriculture, where the US is a net exporter of food, and manufacturing of cars, airplanes and electronics. The government measures economic growth primarily through GDP, collected by agencies like the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The document summarizes several news stories:
1) The UK Treasury plans to sell £1.5 billion of its stake in Royal Mail in chunks over several years to raise funds for privatization.
2) European courts ruled against the UK's reduced VAT rate for energy saving materials, putting the government's tax pledge in doubt.
3) Greek Prime Minister Tsipras faced pressure after Greece refused to pay €300 million owed to the IMF, planning to bundle payments at the end of the month.
4) Swiss prosecutors dropped a money laundering investigation against HSBC after the bank agreed to pay €28 million without admitting guilt.

This document summarizes the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. It discusses major declines in global stock markets and crude oil prices. Industries like travel and oil have been hit hard by reduced demand and lockdowns. The pandemic is projected to lead to a global recession and a rise in unemployment. Central banks have cut interest rates in response, but markets remain volatile. Environmental pollution has temporarily decreased due to reductions in industrial activity and travel during widespread lockdowns.
This document discusses the relationships between Pakistan, China, and America across several areas:
1. Pakistan and China have close historical ties and increasing economic trade, with China investing heavily in Pakistani infrastructure projects.
2. Trade between China and America has increased rapidly in recent decades but America runs a large trade deficit with China, which some see as a threat to American jobs.
3. The document outlines several specific issues in the economic relationships between the countries, including tariffs, import/export quotas, currency values, non-tariff barriers, and dumping complaints.
The document outlines eight trillion-dollar macroeconomic trends expected to drive global economic growth between now and 2020:
1. The next billion consumers - Rising incomes in emerging markets will bring over a billion new consumers into the global middle class, expanding markets.
2. Old infrastructure, new investments - Advanced economies will invest in aging infrastructure through public-private partnerships while emerging economies continue building infrastructure.
3. Militarization following industrialization - As economic power shifts to Asia, military spending and capabilities will also shift, increasing risks of conflict and opportunities for arms producers.
The document outlines eight trillion-dollar macroeconomic trends that are expected to drive global economic growth between 2010 and 2020: 1) The next billion consumers, 2) Old infrastructure, new investments, 3) Militarization following industrialization, 4) Growing output of primary inputs, 5) Developing human capital, 6) Keeping the wealthy healthy, 7) Everything the same, but nicer, 8) Prepping for the next big thing. These eight trends are estimated to increase global GDP by $27 trillion total by 2020, with the trends of developing human capital and keeping the wealthy healthy accounting for about half of the expected growth. The document also discusses some implications that businesses should consider in positioning themselves to profit from these macro

Spanish unions marched in protest of high unemployment rates over 20% for the past 10 years, demanding that bankers address the economic crisis. Spain has one of the largest budget deficits in the eurozone at 11.2% of GDP due to extended unemployment benefits and a struggling jobs market with 1 in 4 workers having temporary contracts. The rally in Spain adds to growing populist anger towards Wall Street and large banks over economic troubles in both Europe and the United States.

Rice Research Can Lift Hundreds of Millions Out of Poverty, Says CGIAR
Dec 18, 2013
The world’s largest agriculture research partnership, CGIAR, says that rice research has yielded promising
results in eradicating poverty across the world so far, and improved funding can help lift hundreds of millions
out of poverty in the next two decades.According to CGIAR, rice research has transformed the lives of both
farmers and consumers in the past. New rice varieties developed under CGIAR have helped lift over 6.75
million people in China during 1981 to 1999 and over 14 million in India during 1991 to 1999. Climateresistant rice such as “Scuba rice” and New Rice for Africa (NERICA) have helped millions of farmers in Asia
and Africa increase rice yield by around up to 3 tons per hectare and reduce losses due to adverse weather
conditions, CGIAR says.Rice is the staple food for around three billion people across the world, of which

3. around 600 million live in extreme poverty. CGIAR aims to reduce rice production costs, offset climate change
impacts, and reduce environmental impact of rice production to reduce poverty and malnutrition in the world.
The efforts are expected to lift about 150 million people (about 11% of people living in poverty) above the
$1.25 poverty line and remove malnourishment for around 60 - 70 million people in the next two decades. “By
2035, research on rice will increase farmers’ yields and lower prices for poor consumers, lifting 150 million
people out of poverty and reducing the number of undernourished people in Asia by 62 million,” CGIAR
says.CGIAR claims that every dollar invested in CGIAR research results in about nine dollars in increased
productivity in developing countries, and a $20 investment in rice research can lift one person out of poverty.
This year CGIAR's overall research funds reached the targeted $1 billion, double of around $500 million in
2008. Improved funding will help finance CGIAR’s 16 global research programs which include the CGIAR
Research Program on Rice, known as the Global Rice Science Partnership (GRiSP). The International Rice
Research Institute (IRRI), Africa Rice Center, International Center Tropical Agriculture (ICAT), and Japan
International Research Center for Agriculture Sciences (JIRCAS) are some rice research institutes under
GRiSP.

7. Oryza Overnight Recap – Chicago Rough Rice Futures Recover Slightly Overnight
Following Late Session Sell-off Yesterday; Wheat Continues to Tumble, Off over
1.5% Ahead of Floor Trading
Dec 18, 2013
Chicago rough rice futures for January delivery are currently paused 2 cent per cwt (about $0.44 per ton) higher
at $15.505 per cwt (about $342 per ton) as of 8:00am Chicago time. The other grains are seen steady to lower
this morning ahead of floor trading in Chicago: soybeans are currently seen unchanged, wheat is seen about
0.6% lower, and corn is paused about 1.8% lower.
U.S. stock index futures ticked up ahead of the eagerly awaited outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve's final
policy meeting of the year, as investors attempted to second-guess what the Federal Open Market Committee
(FOMC) would announce on Wednesday. Stock futures held modest gains after the government reported betterthan-expected increases in housing starts and permits for November. The Fed will decide whether to continue or
reduce its $85 billion monthly bond-buying program at the end of a two-day meeting.
The central bank has pledged to carry on with its stimulus schedule until the labor market has improved
significantly, and with U.S. unemployment sinking from 7.3% to 7% in November, some investors believe
change is to be expected. U.S. stocks closed slightly lower on Tuesday with investors reluctant to make decisive
moves. U.S. stock index futures are currently trading about 0.2% higher, gold is currently trading about 0.1%
higher, crude oil is seen trading about 0.1% higher, and the U.S. dollar is currently trading about 0.1% higher at
8:00am Chicago time.

India Karnataka State Rice Millers End Strike
Dec 18, 2013
Around 1,800 rice milers in the Indian state of Karnataka have called-off their strike after the state government
agreed today to reduce levy targets from 500,000 tons to 250,000 tons annually, which is down significantly
from the original target of 1.35 million tons. The price at which the government will buy rice from millers
remains unchanged at Rs. 2,400 per quintal (about $380 per ton). The Karnataka government is facing shortage
of rice for its welfare programs partly due to the impact of unfavorable weather conditions on rice production in
the state in the last two years. Earlier this year, the government announced that it will procure paddy rice from
farmers at around 22% above the support prices of around Rs. 1,310 per quintal (about $207 per ton).According
to local sources, the Karnataka government increased the levy targets for rice millers after it had to buy rice
from Chhattisgarh state at high prices (of around $474 per ton) last year to run welfare schemes last year.

Oryza Afternoon Recap – Chicago Rough Rice Futures Tumble as Selling Interest
Peaks Ahead of Holiday Break; Grains Fall While Stocks Surge as Fed Announces
Bond Buyer Tapering
Dec 18, 2013
Chicago rough rice futures for January delivery settled 22 cents per cwt (about $5 per ton) lower at $15.265 per
cwt (about $337 per ton). Rough rice futures tumbled today as traders continue to look to liquidate January
positions ahead of the holidays and the year end. In addition to another session of heavy spread activity, outright
selling pressure intensified as the session wore on. Some trade insiders feel that the recent uptick in selling has
been triggered by traders who have decided to liquidate positions as opposed to roll forward given that January
is trading at a premium to March.
The other grain complex as a whole was sharply lower today, despite supportive macroeconomic conditions;
soybeans finished the day about 1.7% lower at $13.2400 per bushel; wheat finished about 1.1% lower at
$6.1375 per bushel; and corn finished the day about 0.4% lower at $4.2500 per bushel.U.S. stocks surged on
Wednesday, with the Dow making a triple-digit climb, after the Federal Reserve said it would begin curtailing
its monetary stimulus. The Fed said it would start to taper its bond-buying program to $75 billion a month. At a
news conference, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said the central bank would likely make similar moderate steps
at future meetings so long as the data support such moves. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped more
than 170 points. The S&P 500 the Nasdaq also rose. U.S. stock markets are currently trading about 1.2%
higher, gold is trading about 0.3% higher, crude oil is seen trading about 0.7% higher, and the U.S. dollar is
seen trading about 0.1% lower at about 2:00pm Chicago time.
Looking to the daily continuation chart of Chicago rough rice futures for January delivery, the market “fell out
of bed” today as trade volume continues to take place at an impressive rate. Prices broke through the recent low
of $15.435 per cwt (about $340 per ton), which had supported prices for the past two weeks and had been noted
as the bottom of a recent $15.435-$15.700 per cwt (about $340-$346 per ton) sideways trading range. Today’s
action saw prices slip below the lower Bollinger band which had acted as the price objective at $15.295 per cwt
(about $337 per ton). Although today’s move provides a negative forecast for tomorrow’s trade direction, some
analysts simply see it as a continuation of a longer-term, wider $15.000-$16.000 per cwt (about $331-$353 per

range is noted as $15.250-$15.525 per cwt (about $336-$342 per ton).Tuesday, there were 4,167 contracts
traded, up from 2,477 contracts traded on Monday. Open interest – the number of contracts outstanding – on
