American democracy is balancing precariously according to an article in the Utica Observer-Dispatch. Philosophers have predicted that democracies have a lifespan of around 250 years, and America's democracy seems to be following the typical pattern of collapse outlined by Professor Alexander Tyler in 1787. Tyler described an eight step process by which democracies devolve from spiritual faith to bondage again, including moving from courage to liberty, complacency, apathy, and eventually dependence as voters demand more benefits from the public treasury. The recent generations in America appear to be surrendering the freedoms fought for by ancestors in favor of being leashed in bondage once more.
