- Meditech originated from the work of researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital who developed the MUMPS programming language. Two researchers, Dr. Robert Greenes and Neil Pappalardo, later went on to form early versions of Meditech.
- Meditech started as a small programming shop developing departmental systems before growing to offer total hospital information systems. Their first client was Cape Cod Hospital in the 1970s.
- Over decades, Meditech evolved their product lines and customer base to become one of the largest hospital EHR vendors, with over 2,000 hospitals worldwide using their systems by 2011.
