Stem cell scientists found that transplanting nasal stem cells into mice with early-stage hearing loss helped improve their hearing. The mice that received nasal stem cell transplants had significantly better hearing than mice that received a placebo. This suggests nasal stem cells may help treat sensorineural hearing loss, which is often genetic and can impair speech and language development in children. However, more research is still needed to determine if the approach is viable and safe for human use.
