Finding Sweetness in Something Dead
Judges 13:1-5
“If you keep complaining, God will put you under the teaching of a king…not a Prophet.”
Verse 5 – A Nazarite in the Old Testament means sanctification. One you are sanctified, you are set
apart for a particular purpose.
“When the scripture says not to drink wine it means we are not to seek another sense of well being
or enjoyment from an artificial source…only from the Holy Spirit.” The commandment was given to
show a necessity to set aside anything that may deter you from the purpose or mission that God
has for you, your inheritance.
Ephesians 5:1-7, 11, 15-18
“Walking circumspectly means to walk with caution, as if walking around thorns.”
Verse 5 - “Long hair illustrates that we are totally dependant on God’s strength and not our own.”
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Judges 13:24
Judges 14:1-3 (in contrast to Judges 13:5) “He will rescue Israel from the Philistines, not marry
them!” He wanted to marry what he was meant to rescue. It doesn’t mean just marriage. People
want to do business with those they were meant to rescue and they wonder why their inheritance
is held up.”
“Samson was a pawn for his own passion.”
Judges 14:5-9
Verse 8 - “Samson messed up when he saw her, came off the path, saw what was dead, saw
some bees, and saw the honey in the dead lion.”
Verse 9 - “People do stuff they don’t have no business doing and end up sharing their garbage
with other people and want them to partake in garbage without telling them where we got it
from.”
“No sooner had Samson performed his great strength he had broken his Nazarite vows by
examining and touching the carcass of the dead lion. Samson had a curiosity with what he
wasn’t allowed to do. The good of the honey brought good pleasure…but was it worth it.? He
not only compromised with his wife, but with the 30 because he is compromising with the
people he was meant to rescue.”
“Just like Samson, you are not meant to sleep with everybody you meet. Everybody is not your
husband or wife, they may just be meant to deliver you.”
Judges 14:11-18
Verse 18 - “That was their heifer first, that’s why they looked at Samson like he was stupid.
She belonged to them! She married Samson but was faithful to the Philistines. She married
him but her heart belonged to the enemy. He didn’t wait on the Lord or see any signs of
Jesus.”
“You can marry anybody you want to. But…if they don’t belong to Jesus and you do, they are
still not yours!”
“Samson compromised with the enemy in order to survive. People compromise with the enemy
in order to survive because their salvation isn’t valuable enough to them and because they don’t
trust God.”
“Salvation has to mean that you are willing to lose it all for Jesus so He can replace it with your
true inheritance.”
“80% of our problem is disobedience. The other 20% is that you have inherited and brought
things into your salvation that is not yours.”
“Until salvation is your only means of survival, you’re not dead in Christ and you’re dependant on
another type of Christ which is an anti-Christ!”
“The things you have has to mean absolutely nothing to you for God to trust you with the
inheritance He has for you.”
“If sin is still in you, you are going back and touching things that are dead because it’s not
supposed to be in you.”
“Philistines represent the sinful nature in our lives and that we are willing to compromise with
the weaknesses (kryptonite in our lives) that we don’t pay attention to until our flesh rises up.”
“Once the Holy Spirit has empowered you with the strength to kill something be careful of
counterfeit beings who say they are your honey. You could just be a pawn for your passion and
the other person a pencil for your test…and both of you fail. They will tell you to listen to the Lord
but they are the ones you are calling and getting all your answers from. They are the ones you are
following.”
“We need to count the old nature as dead and put our mind on what the Spirit desires. If you
continue to alternate between the two you will have unbelievable warfare in your life.”
