New Delhi (PTI): Amid
allegations against the
Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) of toppling gov-
ernments to gain power,
Maharashtra Chief
Minister Eknath Shinde
lavished praise on his
new-found ally on Satur-
day for giving the top
post in the state to a
“small worker” like him.
“The BJP has 115
MLAs and people had
expected a BJP chief
minister in Maharash-
tra. People used to say
that the BJP breaks oth-
er parties to come into
power. I have 50 MLAs.
Can people now say the
same thing about the
BJP? They cannot. A
small worker like me
has got a chance to be
the chief minister,”
Shinde told reporters in
New Delhi.

CM SHINDE TO PERFORM PUJA AT
PANDHARPUR TEMPLE AFTER SEC NOD
Mumbai (PTI): The newly installed Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde will be performing the customary puja
at the Vitthal-Rukmini temple at Pandharpur on Sun-
day, with the state election commission (SEC) giving
its nod. Traditionally, the chief minister performs puja
at the temple located in Solapur district on ‘Ashadhi
Ekadashi’. But there was uncertainty as to whether
Shinde, who took over as CM on June 30, would be
able to attend, as the model Code of Conduct for mu-
nicipal elections has come into force. Sanjeev Jadhav,
Additional District Collector of Solapur, said, “As per
the SEC’s instructions, CM Shinde can perform the
puja without making any official announcements.”

Pune: Pramod Bhan-
gire, former Shiv
Sena councillor from
Pune along with his
supporters, has ex-
tended his support to
the ruling faction of
Shiv Sena led by
Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde.
Ward number 46,
(Mohammadwadi-Ha-
daspar) was represent-
ed by Bhangire, who is
the first councillor of
the city to extend his
support to the Shinde-
led faction.
It is to be noted that
Shiv Sena had 10 corpo-
rators in the Pune Mu-
nicipal Corporation
(PMC). Their term end-
ed recently and the
PMC right now is work-
ing under an adminis-
trator.
“After consulting my
supporters, I have de-
cided to support Shinde
Saheb, who motivated
and gave all assistance
in development of my
ward”, the three-time
councillor said.
Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde is slated
to travel from Pandhar-
pur in Solapur district
via Pune on Saturday
evening and will be
greeted by the corpora-
tor and hundreds of his
supporters at Hadas-
par.
According to sourc-
es, many Shiv Sena
functionaries, office-
bearers and workers
are in touch with the
Chief Minister and are
ready to join him.
It is to be noted that
when Shinde along
with MLAs was camp-
ing in Guwahati, Shiv
Sena workers had
vandalised the office
of MLA Tanaji
Sawant, who repre-
sents Paranda seat in
Osmanabad.

Mumbai. An FIR has
been registered
against former Shiv

six others by the po-
lice for abducting

An FIR under section
363 (kidnapping) and
other relevant sections
of Indian Penal Code
(IPC) has been lodged
against Mhatre and six
others, an official at the
MHB police station in-
formed.
Complainant Rahul
Dhanuka, on Friday
said that a SUV, in
which the councillor
was seated dashed
against his car after
which, four to five peo-
ple came out of the ve-
hicle and started accus-
ing him verbally. He
also accused them of
assaulting him.
The complainant
was allegedly assaulted
for the second time
when he stepped out-
side his house to lodge
a complaint with re-
gards to the same. This
time, the assaulters
came in another SUV,
the official informed.
Rahul also claimed
that the accused kid-
napped him and took
him inside the car
and kept beating him
while the vehicle was
on move. He also said
that one of the ac-
cused kept taking
Mhatre’s name.

Mumbai: The Bharati-
ya Janata Party (BJP)
believes that having
an Other Backward
Class (OBC) leader as
chief will balance out
the fact that Shinde is
a Maratha. The party
also expects it to give
it an advantage given
that the Maha Vikas
Aghadi (MVA) govern-
ment is on the defen-
sive over OBC reserva-
tion in local bodies.
The BJP is expected
to elect a new president
in Maharashtra, with
current chief Chandra-
kant Patil reportedly
eager to join the newly
formed government of
the BJP and Eknath
Shinde's Shiv Sena.
According to sources,
Patil may not serve his
full term until Febru-
ary 2023 if he is ap-
pointed to the Cabinet.
Earlier, Devendra
Fadnavis was eager to
succeed Patil. After it
was decided that Shin-
de would lead the coali-
tion government, Fad-
navis publicly stated
his desire to not join
the ministry but in-
stead support it from
outside. However, after
the BJP leadership in-
tervened, he was forced
to change his mind and
accept the position of
Deputy CM.
Patil served as PWD
minister in Fadnavis
government, which was
led by a BJP-Shiv Sena
coalition between 2014
and 2019. He was elected
president of the BJP
Maharashtra ahead of
the 2019 Assembly elec-
tions.
According to sources,
the BJP's next president
will be an OBC leader
with a focus on social
engineering and ex-
panding its base in ru-
ral Maharashtra. The
central leadership may
also entrust the job to
one of its former senior
ministers.
While several names
are being floated, Ram
Shinde and Chan-
drashekhar Bawankule
are the frontrunners.

Mumbai: Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP)
leader Kirit Somaiya,
who has been relent-
lessly targeting Ud-
dhav Thackeray over
alleged corruption is-
sues when the latter
was chief minister,
including labelling
the previous Maha Vi-
kas Aghadi (MVA)
dispensation “mafia
raj,” said on Friday
that he was simply ex-
pressing popular sen-
timent.
Several Sena leaders
retaliated against So-
maiya at the time, many
of whom are now part
of the faction led by
Eknath Shinde, who
has formed the state
government with BJP's
Devendra Fadnavis as
his deputy
.
Among them was
Deepak Kesarkar, MLA
and spokesperson for
the Shinde faction, who
had, on Thursday, ex-
pressed disappoint-
ment at Somaiya's re-
marks.
Speaking to the me-
dia, Somaiya said, “All I
can say is the mafia gov-
ernment in Maharash-
tra has ended. It was the
feeling of many people
from Maharashtra and
I merely expressed it.”
He also demanded
that a closure report
filed by the previous
Thackeray govern-
ment in a case related
to a Bengaluru-based
IT company sending
82,000 objections to the
construction of a Met-
ro carshed in Mum-
bai's green lung Aarey
must be withdrawn
and probe allowed to
continue.
The Thackeray gov-
ernment was vehe-
mently opposed to the
carshed at Aarey, and
had shifted its location
to Kanjurmarg in the
metropolis' central
suburbs, while the
Shinde government, in
one of its first an-
nouncements, said
Aarey had been
brought back as the
preferred site.

Mumbai: BJP had
promised not to train

Kesarkar on Saturday
.
BJP leader Kirit So-
maiya, who often ac-
cused the Uddhav-led
MVA government of
being involved in cor-
rupt practices, in-
formed me that he was
unaware of any such
“understanding” be-
tween BJP and the Shiv
Sena, Kesarkar in-
formed reporters in
Mumbai.
It is to be noted that
the Somaiya’s contin-
ued tirade against Ud-
dhav Thackeray has
not gone well with
some of the rebel Shiv
Sena MLAs.
“DuringtheGuwahati
camp, we (rebel MLAs)
held a meeting with the
BJP leaders and we told
them that we have hurt
our head of the family
(Thackeray) and will not
allow any critical com-
ments against the lead-
er”, he said.
Deputy CM and
BJP’s face in the coali-
tion, Devendra Fad-
navis agreed to this.
When Somaiya contin-
ued criticising Thack-
eray, the Deputy CM
called the leader and
told him about the un-
derstanding, Kesarkar
informed reporters.
On Friday, Thacker-
ay had alleged that the
rebel Sena legislators
had kept mum when
the BJP was levelling
allegations against
him and his family.
“Like us, Fadnavis
also respects Uddhav-
ji,” Kesarkar said. Sen-
ior Sena leader Eknath

‘WANT MAHA LOCAL BODY
POLLS HELD WITH OBC QUOTA’
Satish Nandgaonkar
Mumbai: A day after
the state election
commission (SEC)
announced elections
to 92 municipal
councils and four
nagar panchayats
for mid-August, po-
litical parties on
Saturday almost
unanimously de-
manded that polls be
postponed until Oth-
er Backward Classes
(OBC) reservation is
allowed by the Su-
preme Court.
The first to oppose
polls set for August 18
and 19 was Congress
Maharashtra Presi-
dent Nana Patole. “In
Madhya Pradesh, lo-
cal body polls are be-
ing held with OBC res-
ervation. The quota is
less than 14%, but lo-
cal body polls should
be held in Maharash-
tra with full quota
(27%),” he said.
Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde, who is
in New Delhi, also sup-
ported postponement
of elections and said
that the state govern-
ment will hold discus-
sions with the State
Election Commission-
er UPS Madan.
Meanwhile, Nation-
alist Congress Party
(NCP) state President
Jayant Patil said, “To
hold elections exclud-
ing OBC reservation
will be a grave injus-
tice to the OBC com-
munity. The Maha Vi-
kas Aghadi (MVA)
was trying to ensure
that the OBC commu-
nity gets reservation.
An MVA-appointed
Banthia Committee
has even collected em-
pirical data and pre-
pared a report. The
battle to get OBC res-
ervation is in the final
lap, and the SEC
should not insist on
elections to be con-
ducted next month.”
Addressing report-
ers in Baramati on
Saturday, Maharash-
tra Legislative Assem-
bly Leader of Opposi-
tion Ajit Pawar, said,
“Now, there is no op-
tion but to face elec-
tions. We did not want
polls (to be held) when
Maharashtra is on red
and orange alert for
heavy rainfall. The
SEC has the right to
announce elections,
and the Code of Con-
duct has come into ef-
fect, where elections
have been announced.
I don’t think any
amount of discussion
will help change that
now.”
BJP’s MP in-charge
and OBC face of the
party, Pankaja Munde,
tweeted, “Elections to
municipal councils
have been announced
at some places. I hope
the newly appointed
Chief Minister and
Deputy CM take no-
tice of this, and en-
sure that elections are
held with the OBC res-
ervations. I am confi-
dent that the govern-
ment will do justice.”
OBC IS KEY
Postponement of elections will give the new
Shinde-Fadnavis dispensation more time to
settle down, and go to voters claiming credit
for OBC reservation. In the past, Fadnavis had
played an instrumental role in Shivraj Chauhan
government’s empirical data collection, as a
result of which, the Supreme Court recently al-
lowed Madhya Pradesh 14 % OBC reservation.

Mumbai: The inten-
sity of rains in Kon-
kan, ghat areas of
Central Maharashtra
and parts of Marath-
wada will increase
over the next four to
five days, said the In-
dia Meteorological
Department (IMD) on
Saturday. Heavy
showers will lash
these parts due to a
low pressure area
over Odisha and a cy-
clonic circulation
spread over 7.6km.
In an official state-
ment, the IMD said,
“Konkan, ghat areas
of Madhya Maharash-
tra and Marathwada
will receive heavy
rainfall in next four to
five days. It would
be triggered by a low-
pressure area over Odi-
sha as well as a cyclon-
ic circulation spread
over 7.6 km.”
“The off-shore
trough is spread
from Gujarat coast
to Karnataka coast.
There is an east-west
shear zone, which is
contributing to the in-
creasing intensity of
the showers,” added
the weather agency.
In the last 24 hours,
Konkan, the ghat areas
of Madhya Maharash-
tra and Marathwada
have received light
showers as well as
heavy rainfall, in-
formed the IMD.
According to the
forecast till July 13,
widespread rainfall is
expected to occur in
North, South, Central
Maharashtra. Marath-
wada and Vidarbha re-
gions are also likely to
experience rains dur-
ing this period.
Officials issued
warnings of heavy
rainfall in Marathwada
for the next four days
till July 12. They also
warned of heavy show-
ers along with thunder-
storms and lightning in
Vidarbha region till
July 13.
Meanwhile, the IMD
reported moderate
rain in the city and sub-
urbs of Mumbai on
Saturday, and sounded
an orange alert till
Sunday. It forecast the
possibility of heavy to
very heavy rainfall
at isolated places in
the financial capital
of India.
Officials have also
predicted occasional
gusty winds reaching
40-50 kmph in the coast-
al city. The weather
agency had issued a red
alert in Mumbai from 1
pm on Friday for the
next 24 hours.
Mumbai (PTI): Chief
Minister Eknath
Shinde on Saturday
phoned the Hingoli
Collector Jitendra
Papalkar, which has
received heavy rains
in the last 48 hours.
He issued instruc-
tions on evacuation
of people and providing other forms of relief.
Heavy rains had caused the Asana river in Hingoli,
located around 570 kilometres from Mumbai, to
swell, with water entering villages and damaging
crops. “You should ensure safe evacuation of the

INFLATION EXPECTED TO COOL
FROM OCTOBER: RBI GOVERNOR
New Delhi (PTI): Exud-
ing confidence that the
price situation will grad-
ually improve in the sec-
ond half of the current
fiscal, RBI Governor
Shaktikanta Das on Sat-
urday said the central
bank would continue to
take monetary measures
to anchor inflation with
a view to achieving
strong and sustainable
growth.
Inflation is a measure
of the trust and confi-
dence that the public re-
poses in the economic
institutions of the coun-
try, Das said while speak-
ing at the inaugural Kau-
tilya Economic Con-
clave.
“Overall, at this point
of time, with the supply
outlook appearing fa-
vourable and several
high frequency indica-
tors pointing to resil-
ience of the recovery in
the first quarter (April-
June) of 2022-23, our cur-
rent assessment is that
inflation may ease grad-
ually in the second half
of 2022-23, precluding
the chances of a hard
landing in India,” the
Governor said.
Noting that price sta-
bility is key to maintain-
ing macroeconomic and
financial stability, he
said the central bank
will undertake measures
for preserving and fos-
tering macroeconomic
stability.
“While factors beyond
our control may affect
inflation in the short
run, its trajectory over
the medium-term is de-
termined by monetary
policy. Therefore, mone-
tary policy must take
timely actions to anchor
inflation and inflation
expectations so as to
place the economy on a
strong and sustainable
growth pedestal.
“We will continue to
calibrate our policies
with the overarching
goal of preserving and
fostering macroeconom-
ic stability,” he said. Das
noted that the Monetary
Policy Committee (MPC)
in its April and June
meetings revised the
projection of inflation
for 2022-23 in two stages
to 6.7 per cent, taking
stock of the evolving de-
velopments and with in-
flation pressures getting
generalised. About
three-fourths of the revi-
sion in June was on ac-
count of geopolitical
spillovers to food prices,
he said, adding the MPC
also decided to increase
the policy repo rate by 40
bps and 50 bps in May
and June, respectively.
In fact, Das said, recent developments call for great-
er recognition of global factors in domestic inflation
dynamics and macroeconomic developments which
underscore the need for enhanced policy coordina-
tion and dialogue among countries to achieve better
outcomes.
DEVELOPMENTS CALL FOR RECOGNITION
Talking about prospects for
global growth, Das said the
sharply tightening financial
conditions due to the ongoing
monetary policy normalisation
on the one hand and the per-
sisting geopolitical tensions
on the other pose significant
downside risks to near-term.
FINANCIAL CONDITION
SHARPLY TIGHTEN at this point of time, with
the supply outlook appear-
ing favourable and several
high frequency indicators
pointing to resilience of
the recovery in the first
quarter, our current as-
sessment is that inflation
may ease gradually in the
second half of 2022-23.

Mumbai: Maharash-
tra’s Deputy CM Dev-
endra Fadnavis on
Saturday requested
PM Narendra Modi to
relieve senior IAS of-
ficer, Praveen Pard-
eshi, as he wants him
back in Mumbai. He is
currently serving as
member of adminis-
tration at the Capaci-
ty Building Commis-
sion, Government of
India, in New Delhi.
Nicknamed ‘The Dis-
ruptor’, bureaucrats at
the Maharashtra man-
tralaya and even a few
deputy municipal com-
missioners posted in the
Brihanmumbai Munici-
pal Corporation (BMC)
are aghast that Pardeshi
may soon be deputed
back to the state.
A source of the
Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) said, “Bureau-
crats share common
angst against Pardeshi.
His style of disruptive
decision-making chal-
lenges the existing sta-
tus quo. One deputy mu-
nicipal commissioner
actually asked me to
prevent Pardeshi’s re-
turn to Mumbai.”
Without a doubt,
Pardeshi has earned his
nickname of ‘The Dis-
ruptor’. During Kerala
floods of 2018, he headed
the War Room in the
Chief Minister’s Office
(CMO)underthenChief
Minister Devendra Fad-
navis. The CM deployed
himtoKeralainorderto
ensure delivery of medi-
cal and essential sup-
plies to flood victims.
A KPMG associate,
who worked with Pard-
eshi at the time, told
First India, “Our team
was tasked by sir (Pard-
eshi) to bring down the
total time taken by Cor-
porate Social Responsi-
bility (CSR) sanction of
funds through corpo-
rates for relief material.
It was 72 hours as per
convention. After ‘dis-
ruption’, this timeline
was brought down to 24
hours. It was a disrup-
tion we are proud of.”
During his tenure as
BMC chief, Pardeshi’s
initiatives including fire
brigadeefficiency
,reduc-
ing BEST basic bus fares
to five rupees, succeeded
in increasing revenues
for the civic body, sur-
prising everyone.
He was transferred
out of BMC and even
overlooked for promo-
tion to the post of chief
secretary of Maharash-
tra under the previous
Maha Vikas Aghadi
(MVA) regime.
It was Fadnavis then
who requested PM Modi
to accommodate Pard-
eshi, who was then de-
puted to the Ministry of
Personnel and from
where he is likely to be
transferred back to Ma-
harashtra.

water in Amravati dist
Mumbai: Three peo-
ple died and 47 fell ill
after drinking pol-
luted water from
open wells in two vil-
lages of Amravati dis-
trict.
A statement issued
by the Chief Minister’s
Office (CMO) stated, the
affected people be-
longed to Paach Dongri
and Koylari villages of
Melaghat in Amravati.
Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde has an-
nounced ex-gratia of Rs
5 lakh each to the kin of
the deceased.
Earlier in the day,
Shinde, who is current-
ly in Delhi, phoned the
collector of Amravati
and directed that medi-
cal treatment be pro-
vided to the affected
persons at the earliest
and if needed, they be
admitted to a private
hospital, the statement
said.
At least 50 people fell
ill after consuming pol-
luted water from open
wells, and of these three
have died. The victims
suffered from diar-
rhoea.
The district collector
informed the chief min-
ister that condition of
some patients was criti-
cal. To which, Shinde
asked him to make eve-
ry effort to ensure that
no more lives are lost.
Paddy procurement raises eyebrows
in Gondia; investigation ordered
First India Bureau
Gondia: An inquiry
has been ordered af-
ter some public rep-
resentatives in
Gondia complained
of alleged irregulari-
ties in the procure-
ment of paddy from
farmers, claiming
that the target of
4.51 lakh quintals set
before the District
Marketing Federa-
tion (DMF) was met
soon after the pro-
cess began, officials
said on Saturday.
Sunil Mendhe, the
BJP MP representing
Bhandara Gondiya Lok
Sabha constituency,
and local Independent
MLA Vinod Agrawal
both objected to the
procurement process,
which began on July 7.
“At several DMF cen-
tres, the paddy pro-
curement process end-
ed within hours of the
commencement. How-
ever, the same activity
that started the same
day at the Tribal Devel-
opment Corporation
(TDC), the revised tar-
get of which is 3.28
lakh quintals, is still
on and is expected to
continue for a week,”
Mendhe said.
Farmers claimed
that after the procure-
ment process began,
107 DMF-approved cen-
tres met their target
within a few hours and
the portal was shut
down. They ap-
proached Mendhe and
Agrawal, who brought
the matter to the atten-
tion of the authorities.
Taking cognisance
of the complaints by
farmers and the public
representatives, an in-
quiry has been ordered
and a report is likely to
be submitted within
next few days, officials
said.
An inquiry was or-
dered by Collector
Rajesh Khawale, who
directed the concerned
tehsilders to submit
reports by Tuesday.
District Marketing
Officer Manoj Bajpay-
ee said they will go
through the documents
of farmers to authenti-
cate the allegations
and if any irregularity
was found, then action
would be taken against
those responsible.
107 DMF centres achieved their set
targets within a few hours following
which the portal was closed down

death was registered.
Mumbai: Thane Police seized 110kg of cannabis
and arrested one person for allegedly smuggling
the contraband. The total value of the seized can-

WHY GOING IS NOT
EASY FOR SHINDE!
Eknath Shinde’s has
justbeencrownedas
the head of the state, yet
what is the matter that
the whispers in the si-
lence are bothering him
to such an extent. After
all, why does he want to
postpone the expansion
of his cabinet till the
BMC elections? Why is
he afraid of his loved
ones’ displeasure from
now on? Sources reveal
that under the agree-
ment reached between
the BJP and Shinde, a
total of 45 ministers can
be included in the Shin-
de cabinet, out of which
25ministerswillbefrom
BJP
, 13 from Shinde’s
quotaand7independent
MLAs. But what will
happen to those 10 inde-
pendent MLAs who
will not be able to be-
come ministers? Will
they still continue their
support to the Shinde
govt? At the same time, 8
ministers who broke
away from the Uddhav
govt would also like to
remain ministers again.
Recently
,ShindemetPM
Modi and Amit Shah in
Delhi and he has report-
edly been asked to first
prove his worth. That is
to make BMC Shiv Sena
free,. Right now the fight
between Shinde and
Thackeray factions has
deepened over the par-
ty’s election symbol ar-
row and bow and the
matter is with the Elec-
tion Commission. This
might be a big setback
for the Uddhav camp.
That is, the political cir-
cus continues in Maha-
rashtra.
WHY DID SHETTAR
MEET THE PM?
Recently
, BJP organi-
zation general secy
BL Santhosh accompa-
nied a prominent Lin-
gayat leader from

T h e
agenda of
this meet-
ing was kept completely
secret,neithertherewas
any mention of this
news on social media
nor was there any tweet
about it from the PMO
itself. But if sources are
to be believed, Santhosh
wants that the VP’s
chair, to be vacated by
Venkaiah Naidu, should
be occupied by a South
Indian. It should be not-
ed that Jagadish Shettar
is the one who cam-
paigned to remove Nitin

postandwasreplacedby

same time, Kerala Guv

He has been asking for

Jammu and Kashmir’s
Lieutenant Governor

thrice in the last few
days. At the same time,
63-year-old Mukhtar Ab-
bas Naqvi, the biggest
contender for this post,

be believed, the Soren
government has got life-

from the continuous
raids of ED-CBI on He-

sword of the Election

hanging on Hemant. It is
a case of misuse of pub-
lic office as CM. Hemant
is accused of forming a

. So far, Soren’s law-
yers have responded to
the summons of Elec-

now the Commission
wants Soren’s personal
appearance. So far, two-
three summons have
beensenttoSorenbythe

Soren has been avoiding

nor has it been able to

ndians have long held
the monsoon in high
regard. Some enjoy it
because it offers cool-
er temperatures that
counterbalance the
summer heat, others
enjoy the scent of the
first rain that falls on the
ground, and yet others enjoy
sipping hot coffee while read-
ing a book on a rainy day
.
In several aspects, the mon-
soon brings delight to the com-
mon people, but it also brings
with it a number of difficulties,
suchasmuddyroads,slickside-
walks,andcloggeddrains.How-
ever, in the long term, it is a
modest price we are all willing
to pay because the advantages
greatly exceed the disadvantag-
es. Monsoon season makes us
feel like little, carefree toddlers.
Thearomaof fresh,moistearth
fillstheairatthisverymoment,
and a soft wind touches our
skin. It makes us feel as though
thereissomesortof hiddenand
unspoken delight.
When the monsoon is ap-
proaching, it causes a kind of
windy breeze, a cloudy mist,
and a happy feeling in
the stomach as it
brings out a fan-
tastic view in
front of our
eyes moving
clouds, splat-
tering rain showers, thunder
strikes,treesandleavesmaking
a humble vow, the joy of seeing
tinyinsects,thedimlightgiving
peace to eyes and most impor-
tantly
, a feeling of relief from
the burning heat of the sun.
Perhaps the most romantic
time of year is during the mon-
soon since it is when hearts
first connect. Even the grief
we feel in our hearts may be
washed away by the rain, in ad-
ditiontothemudonthestreets.
The most affordable yet price-
less date you can have with
your partner or someone you
adore is a stroll in the evening
during a downpour.
While travelling hasn’t tra-
ditionally been connected with
the monsoon, it’s really ideal
for a short vacation outside of
the city while enjoying your
favourite music and the
weather.
Pakoras are similarly
necessary to Monsoon.
Some people may choose
the traditional onion Pakoras
or the aloo ones, or they may
enjoy indulging in the meat
and other non-vegetarian al-
ternatives or even something
fancier like the seafood varie-
ties. With just a dish of pako-
ras, whose flavours are signifi-
cantly enhanced by the little
chilly, wet weather and some
all-time favourite classic songs.
The monsoon provides us
with life as well as water. In ad-
dition to relieving the oppres-
sive summer heat, monsoons
also warm our spirits and sur-
roundings, bringing about a
greater sense of tranquillity in
our lives. The monsoon pro-
vides sufficient fulfilment,
which not only makes humans
happy but also all other living
things and plants.

Ward number 46, (Mohammadwadi-Ha- daspar) was represent- ed by Bhangire, who is the first councillor of the city to extend his support to the Shinde- led faction. It is to be noted that Shiv Sena had 10 corpo- rators in the Pune Mu- nicipal Corporation (PMC). Their term end- ed recently and the PMC right now is work- ing under an adminis- trator. “After consulting my supporters, I have de- cided to support Shinde Saheb, who motivated and gave all assistance in development of my ward”, the three-time councillor said. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is slated to travel from Pandhar- pur in Solapur district via Pune on Saturday evening and will be greeted by the corpora- tor and hundreds of his supporters at Hadas- par. According to sourc- es, many Shiv Sena functionaries, office- bearers and workers are in touch with the Chief Minister and are ready to join him. It is to be noted that when Shinde along with MLAs was camp- ing in Guwahati, Shiv Sena workers had vandalised the office of MLA Tanaji Sawant, who repre- sents Paranda seat in Osmanabad. First India Bureau Mumbai. An FIR has been registered against former Shiv Sena councillor Sheetal Mhatre and six others by the po- lice for abducting and assaulting a 22-year-old man. An FIR under section 363 (kidnapping) and other relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been lodged against Mhatre and six others, an official at the MHB police station in- formed. Complainant Rahul Dhanuka, on Friday said that a SUV, in which the councillor was seated dashed against his car after which, four to five peo- ple came out of the ve- hicle and started accus- ing him verbally. He also accused them of assaulting him. The complainant was allegedly assaulted for the second time when he stepped out- side his house to lodge a complaint with re- gards to the same. This time, the assaulters came in another SUV, the official informed. Rahul also claimed that the accused kid- napped him and took him inside the car and kept beating him while the vehicle was on move. He also said that one of the ac- cused kept taking Mhatre’s name. First India Bureau Mumbai: The Bharati- ya Janata Party (BJP) believes that having an Other Backward Class (OBC) leader as chief will balance out the fact that Shinde is a Maratha. The party also expects it to give it an advantage given that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) govern- ment is on the defen- sive over OBC reserva- tion in local bodies. The BJP is expected to elect a new president in Maharashtra, with current chief Chandra- kant Patil reportedly eager to join the newly formed government of the BJP and Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena. According to sources, Patil may not serve his full term until Febru- ary 2023 if he is ap- pointed to the Cabinet. Earlier, Devendra Fadnavis was eager to succeed Patil. After it was decided that Shin- de would lead the coali- tion government, Fad- navis publicly stated his desire to not join the ministry but in- stead support it from outside. However, after the BJP leadership in- tervened, he was forced to change his mind and accept the position of Deputy CM. Patil served as PWD minister in Fadnavis government, which was led by a BJP-Shiv Sena coalition between 2014 and 2019. He was elected president of the BJP Maharashtra ahead of the 2019 Assembly elec- tions. According to sources, the BJP's next president will be an OBC leader with a focus on social engineering and ex- panding its base in ru- ral Maharashtra. The central leadership may also entrust the job to one of its former senior ministers. While several names are being floated, Ram Shinde and Chan- drashekhar Bawankule are the frontrunners. First India Bureau Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya, who has been relent- lessly targeting Ud- dhav Thackeray over alleged corruption is- sues when the latter was chief minister, including labelling the previous Maha Vi- kas Aghadi (MVA) dispensation “mafia raj,” said on Friday that he was simply ex- pressing popular sen- timent. Several Sena leaders retaliated against So- maiya at the time, many of whom are now part of the faction led by Eknath Shinde, who has formed the state government with BJP's Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy . Among them was Deepak Kesarkar, MLA and spokesperson for the Shinde faction, who had, on Thursday, ex- pressed disappoint- ment at Somaiya's re- marks. Speaking to the me- dia, Somaiya said, “All I can say is the mafia gov- ernment in Maharash- tra has ended. It was the feeling of many people from Maharashtra and I merely expressed it.” He also demanded that a closure report filed by the previous Thackeray govern- ment in a case related to a Bengaluru-based IT company sending 82,000 objections to the construction of a Met- ro carshed in Mum- bai's green lung Aarey must be withdrawn and probe allowed to continue. The Thackeray gov- ernment was vehe- mently opposed to the carshed at Aarey, and had shifted its location to Kanjurmarg in the metropolis' central suburbs, while the Shinde government, in one of its first an- nouncements, said Aarey had been brought back as the preferred site. First India Bureau Mumbai: BJP had promised not to train guns on Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray and his family, said party’s spokesperson Deepak Kesarkar on Saturday . BJP leader Kirit So- maiya, who often ac- cused the Uddhav-led MVA government of being involved in cor- rupt practices, in- formed me that he was unaware of any such “understanding” be- tween BJP and the Shiv Sena, Kesarkar in- formed reporters in Mumbai. It is to be noted that the Somaiya’s contin- ued tirade against Ud- dhav Thackeray has not gone well with some of the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs. “DuringtheGuwahati camp, we (rebel MLAs) held a meeting with the BJP leaders and we told them that we have hurt our head of the family (Thackeray) and will not allow any critical com- ments against the lead- er”, he said. Deputy CM and BJP’s face in the coali- tion, Devendra Fad- navis agreed to this. When Somaiya contin- ued criticising Thack- eray, the Deputy CM called the leader and told him about the un- derstanding, Kesarkar informed reporters. On Friday, Thacker- ay had alleged that the rebel Sena legislators had kept mum when the BJP was levelling allegations against him and his family. “Like us, Fadnavis also respects Uddhav- ji,” Kesarkar said. The first to oppose polls set for August 18 and 19 was Congress Maharashtra Presi- dent Nana Patole. “In Madhya Pradesh, lo- cal body polls are be- ing held with OBC res- ervation. The quota is less than 14%, but lo- cal body polls should be held in Maharash- tra with full quota (27%),” he said. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who is in New Delhi, also sup- ported postponement of elections and said that the state govern- ment will hold discus- sions with the State Election Commission- er UPS Madan. Meanwhile, Nation- alist Congress Party (NCP) state President Jayant Patil said, “To hold elections exclud- ing OBC reservation will be a grave injus- tice to the OBC com- munity. The Maha Vi- kas Aghadi (MVA) was trying to ensure that the OBC commu- nity gets reservation. An MVA-appointed Banthia Committee has even collected em- pirical data and pre- pared a report. The battle to get OBC res- ervation is in the final lap, and the SEC should not insist on elections to be con- ducted next month.” Addressing report- ers in Baramati on Saturday, Maharash- tra Legislative Assem- bly Leader of Opposi- tion Ajit Pawar, said, “Now, there is no op- tion but to face elec- tions. We did not want polls (to be held) when Maharashtra is on red and orange alert for heavy rainfall. The SEC has the right to announce elections, and the Code of Con- duct has come into ef- fect, where elections have been announced. I don’t think any amount of discussion will help change that now.” BJP’s MP in-charge and OBC face of the party, Pankaja Munde, tweeted, “Elections to municipal councils have been announced at some places. I hope the newly appointed Chief Minister and Deputy CM take no- tice of this, and en- sure that elections are held with the OBC res- ervations. I am confi- dent that the govern- ment will do justice.” OBC IS KEY Postponement of elections will give the new Shinde-Fadnavis dispensation more time to settle down, and go to voters claiming credit for OBC reservation. In the past, Fadnavis had played an instrumental role in Shivraj Chauhan government’s empirical data collection, as a result of which, the Supreme Court recently al- lowed Madhya Pradesh 14 % OBC reservation. Heavy showers will lash these parts due to a low pressure area over Odisha and a cy- clonic circulation spread over 7.6km. In an official state- ment, the IMD said, “Konkan, ghat areas of Madhya Maharash- tra and Marathwada will receive heavy rainfall in next four to five days. It would be triggered by a low- pressure area over Odi- sha as well as a cyclon- ic circulation spread over 7.6 km.” “The off-shore trough is spread from Gujarat coast to Karnataka coast. There is an east-west shear zone, which is contributing to the in- creasing intensity of the showers,” added the weather agency. In the last 24 hours, Konkan, the ghat areas of Madhya Maharash- tra and Marathwada have received light showers as well as heavy rainfall, in- formed the IMD. According to the forecast till July 13, widespread rainfall is expected to occur in North, South, Central Maharashtra. Mumbai (PTI): Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday phoned the Hingoli Collector Jitendra Papalkar, which has received heavy rains in the last 48 hours. He issued instruc- tions on evacuation of people and providing other forms of relief. Heavy rains had caused the Asana river in Hingoli, located around 570 kilometres from Mumbai, to swell, with water entering villages and damaging crops. “You should ensure safe evacuation of the villagers and shift them to temporary shelters. Make provision for food and drinking water for them,” Shinde, who is currently in Delhi to meet BJP leaders, told the collector. In a clip that was released for the media, Shinde can be heard tell- ing the collector to deploy more National Disaster Response Force teams, if required. It is like a mighty river which in its progress absorbs many streams, some even muddy. INFLATION EXPECTED TO COOL FROM OCTOBER: RBI GOVERNOR New Delhi (PTI): Exud- ing confidence that the price situation will grad- ually improve in the sec- ond half of the current fiscal, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Sat- urday said the central bank would continue to take monetary measures to anchor inflation with a view to achieving strong and sustainable growth. Inflation is a measure of the trust and confi- dence that the public re- poses in the economic institutions of the coun- try, Das said while speak- ing at the inaugural Kau- tilya Economic Con- clave. “Overall, at this point of time, with the supply outlook appearing fa- vourable and several high frequency indica- tors pointing to resil- ience of the recovery in the first quarter (April- June) of 2022-23, our cur- rent assessment is that inflation may ease grad- ually in the second half of 2022-23, precluding the chances of a hard landing in India,” the Governor said. Noting that price sta- bility is key to maintain- ing macroeconomic and financial stability, he said the central bank will undertake measures for preserving and fos- tering macroeconomic stability. “While factors beyond our control may affect inflation in the short run, its trajectory over the medium-term is de- termined by monetary policy. Therefore, mone- tary policy must take timely actions to anchor inflation and inflation expectations so as to place the economy on a strong and sustainable growth pedestal. “We will continue to calibrate our policies with the overarching goal of preserving and fostering macroeconom- ic stability,” he said. Das noted that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) in its April and June meetings revised the projection of inflation for 2022-23 in two stages to 6.7 per cent, taking stock of the evolving de- velopments and with in- flation pressures getting generalised. About three-fourths of the revi- sion in June was on ac- count of geopolitical spillovers to food prices, he said, adding the MPC also decided to increase the policy repo rate by 40 bps and 50 bps in May and June, respectively. In fact, Das said, recent developments call for great- er recognition of global factors in domestic inflation dynamics and macroeconomic developments which underscore the need for enhanced policy coordina- tion and dialogue among countries to achieve better outcomes. DEVELOPMENTS CALL FOR RECOGNITION Talking about prospects for global growth, Das said the sharply tightening financial conditions due to the ongoing monetary policy normalisation on the one hand and the per- sisting geopolitical tensions on the other pose significant downside risks to near-term. FINANCIAL CONDITION SHARPLY TIGHTEN at this point of time, with the supply outlook appear- ing favourable and several high frequency indicators pointing to resilience of the recovery in the first quarter, our current as- sessment is that inflation may ease gradually in the second half of 2022-23. He is currently serving as member of adminis- tration at the Capaci- ty Building Commis- sion, Government of India, in New Delhi. Nicknamed ‘The Dis- ruptor’, bureaucrats at the Maharashtra man- tralaya and even a few deputy municipal com- missioners posted in the Brihanmumbai Munici- pal Corporation (BMC) are aghast that Pardeshi may soon be deputed back to the state. A source of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said, “Bureau- crats share common angst against Pardeshi. His style of disruptive decision-making chal- lenges the existing sta- tus quo. One deputy mu- nicipal commissioner actually asked me to prevent Pardeshi’s re- turn to Mumbai.” Without a doubt, Pardeshi has earned his nickname of ‘The Dis- ruptor’. During Kerala floods of 2018, he headed the War Room in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO)underthenChief Minister Devendra Fad- navis. The CM deployed himtoKeralainorderto ensure delivery of medi- cal and essential sup- plies to flood victims. A KPMG associate, who worked with Pard- eshi at the time, told First India, “Our team was tasked by sir (Pard- eshi) to bring down the total time taken by Cor- porate Social Responsi- bility (CSR) sanction of funds through corpo- rates for relief material. It was 72 hours as per convention. After ‘dis- ruption’, this timeline was brought down to 24 hours. It was a disrup- tion we are proud of.” During his tenure as BMC chief, Pardeshi’s initiatives including fire brigadeefficiency ,reduc- ing BEST basic bus fares to five rupees, succeeded in increasing revenues for the civic body, sur- prising everyone. He was transferred out of BMC and even overlooked for promo- tion to the post of chief secretary of Maharash- tra under the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) regime. It was Fadnavis then who requested PM Modi to accommodate Pard- eshi, who was then de- puted to the Ministry of Personnel and from where he is likely to be transferred back to Ma- harashtra. Paddy procurement raises eyebrows in Gondia; investigation ordered First India Bureau Gondia: An inquiry has been ordered af- ter some public rep- resentatives in Gondia complained of alleged irregulari- ties in the procure- ment of paddy from farmers, claiming that the target of 4.51 lakh quintals set before the District Marketing Federa- tion (DMF) was met soon after the pro- cess began, officials said on Saturday. Sunil Mendhe, the BJP MP representing Bhandara Gondiya Lok Sabha constituency, and local Independent MLA Vinod Agrawal both objected to the procurement process, which began on July 7. “At several DMF cen- tres, the paddy pro- curement process end- ed within hours of the commencement. How- ever, the same activity that started the same day at the Tribal Devel- opment Corporation (TDC), the revised tar- get of which is 3.28 lakh quintals, is still on and is expected to continue for a week,” Mendhe said. Farmers claimed that after the procure- ment process began, 107 DMF-approved cen- tres met their target within a few hours and the portal was shut down. They ap- proached Mendhe and Agrawal, who brought the matter to the atten- tion of the authorities. Taking cognisance of the complaints by farmers and the public representatives, an in- quiry has been ordered and a report is likely to be submitted within next few days, officials said. An inquiry was or- dered by Collector Rajesh Khawale, who directed the concerned tehsilders to submit reports by Tuesday. IAS Praveen Pardeshi WHY GOING IS NOT EASY FOR SHINDE! Eknath Shinde’s has justbeencrownedas the head of the state, yet what is the matter that the whispers in the si- lence are bothering him to such an extent. After all, why does he want to postpone the expansion of his cabinet till the BMC elections? Why is he afraid of his loved ones’ displeasure from now on? Sources reveal that under the agree- ment reached between the BJP and Shinde, a total of 45 ministers can be included in the Shin- de cabinet, out of which 25ministerswillbefrom BJP , 13 from Shinde’s quotaand7independent MLAs. But what will happen to those 10 inde- pendent MLAs who will not be able to be- come ministers? Will they still continue their support to the Shinde govt? At the same time, 8 ministers who broke away from the Uddhav govt would also like to remain ministers again. Recently ,ShindemetPM Modi and Amit Shah in Delhi and he has report- edly been asked to first prove his worth. That is to make BMC Shiv Sena free,. Right now the fight between Shinde and Thackeray factions has deepened over the par- ty’s election symbol ar- row and bow and the matter is with the Elec- tion Commission. This might be a big setback for the Uddhav camp. That is, the political cir- cus continues in Maha- rashtra. WHY DID SHETTAR MEET THE PM? Recently , BJP organi- zation general secy BL Santhosh accompa- nied a prominent Lin- gayat leader from K’taka, Jagadish Shet- tar, to meet the PM. T h e agenda of this meet- ing was kept completely secret, neithertherewas any mention of this news on social media nor was there any tweet about it from the PMO itself. But if sources are to be believed, Santhosh wants that the VP’s chair, to be vacated by Venkaiah Naidu, should be occupied by a South Indian. It should be not- ed that Jagadish Shettar is the one who cam- paigned to remove Nitin Gadkarifromthepostof BJP Prez in 2012. Later Gadkari had to leave his postandwasreplacedby Rajnath Singh. At the same time, Kerala Guv Arif Mohammad Khan hasalsonotlostcourage. He has been asking for anappointmentwiththe PM for the last 10 days. Some enjoy it because it offers cool- er temperatures that counterbalance the summer heat, others enjoy the scent of the first rain that falls on the ground, and yet others enjoy sipping hot coffee while read- ing a book on a rainy day . In several aspects, the mon- soon brings delight to the com- mon people, but it also brings with it a number of difficulties, suchasmuddyroads,slickside- walks,andcloggeddrains.How- ever, in the long term, it is a modest price we are all willing to pay because the advantages greatly exceed the disadvantag- es. Monsoon season makes us feel like little, carefree toddlers. Thearomaof fresh, moistearth fillstheairatthisverymoment, and a soft wind touches our skin. It makes us feel as though thereissomesortof hiddenand unspoken delight. When the monsoon is ap- proaching, it causes a kind of windy breeze, a cloudy mist, and a happy feeling in the stomach as it brings out a fan- tastic view in front of our eyes moving clouds, splat- tering rain showers, thunder strikes, treesandleavesmaking a humble vow, the joy of seeing tinyinsects, thedimlightgiving peace to eyes and most impor- tantly , a feeling of relief from the burning heat of the sun. Perhaps the most romantic time of year is during the mon- soon since it is when hearts first connect. Even the grief we feel in our hearts may be washed away by the rain, in ad- ditiontothemudonthestreets. The most affordable yet price- less date you can have with your partner or someone you adore is a stroll in the evening during a downpour. While travelling hasn’t tra- ditionally been connected with the monsoon, it’s really ideal for a short vacation outside of the city while enjoying your favourite music and the weather. Pakoras are similarly necessary to Monsoon. Some people may choose the traditional onion Pakoras or the aloo ones, or they may enjoy indulging in the meat and other non-vegetarian al- ternatives or even something fancier like the seafood varie- ties. With just a dish of pako- ras, whose flavours are signifi- cantly enhanced by the little chilly, wet weather and some all-time favourite classic songs. The monsoon provides us with life as well as water. In ad- dition to relieving the oppres- sive summer heat, monsoons also warm our spirits and sur- roundings, bringing about a greater sense of tranquillity in our lives.
