Mumbai: BJP leader
and ex-Finance Minis-
ter of Maharashtra Su-
dhir Mungantiwar told
the media that the po-
litical party’s core com-
mittee meeting held in
Mumbai on Monday
had decided to wait and
watch, adding that his
party had no role to
play in the ongoing re-
bellion of Sena MLAs.
While this is far from
the truth, Munganti-
war was only following
the express orders of
BJP’s Maharashtra
boss Devendra Fad-
navis, who has forbid-
den his minions from
disclosing any alter-
nate facts to points he
specified at the meet-
ing.
“At the meeting, Fad-
navis said the BJP’s po-
litical strategy would
be announced in two to
three days. He said he
was in contact with the
party high command
about the strategy to be
followed until then and
directed all those pre-
sent to desist from mak-
ing any statements on
the issue,” a person
close to the develop-
ment told First India.
The former CM told
BJP leaders to limit
their conversations
with the media to five
parameters while
maintaining total si-
lence on the party’s
strategy and making no
comment except to say
that the BJP has had no
role to play in the cur-
rent imbroglio.
The BJP has also
communicated to the
Eknath Shinde-led re-
bel faction to consist-
ently cite the Congress
and especially the Na-
tionalist Congress Par-
ty (NCP) as being re-
sponsible for inequita-
ble disbursement of
development funds, and
lament that repeated
follow-ups with both
the Sena high com-
mand and NCP have
been in vain.
The Shinde faction
has further been told to
keep emphasizing that
they have not received
any funding from the
BJP, even as they revolt-
ed “in order to save the
Shiv Sena party’s As-
titva (continued exist-
ence) in Maharashtra’s
politics”.
The BJP will try to
emphasize that while
their party has tall
leaders like Narendra
Modi and Amit Shah to
mentor, guide and offer
advice to rectify their
grievances, the Sena
lacked the same redres-
sal mechanism.
In a strategic move
the Sena rebels, who
moved the Supreme
Court, also submitted
the entire video of San-
jay Raut’s reprehensi-
ble comments on the
record. The Sena MP
and spokesperson Raut
was forced to offer a re-
action stating that he
had only made a politi-
cal statement. The BJP
is pinning its hopes on
the apex court pulling
up Raut and summon-
ing him in the case
which would be a ma-
jor political victory in
the ongoing battle for
Maharashtra as well as
the final nail in Raut’s
coffin.

the support of 50 MLAs.
“All these MLAs have

and to take forward
Hindutva,” he said said.

are in touch with them.
If it is the case, then
they should reveal their
names,” he added.
“Our stand is clear...
to take forward the Shiv
Sena, as dreamt of by

eray. We will continue

sharpened the attack on
rebel MLAs and issued
veiled threats to them.
“I am confident that
we can find a way out of
this. Let us all sit to-
gether and find a solu-
tion. Please do not fall
for false promises made
to you. No other party
can give you the respect
and dignity you re-
ceived in the Shiv Sena.
If you come and speak
your mind, a solution
could be found. I am
concerned about all of
you as party president
and head of the Shiv
Sena family,” he said.
The statement came
soon after Sena’s strong
denial of news reports
that Thackeray had tele-
phonedBharatiyaJanata
Party (BJP) leader Dev-
endra Fadnavis to save
the Maha Vikas Aghadi
government from a col-
lapse. “There is no truth
in these reports. Ud-

19 KILLED, 14 INJURED
as building collapses in Kurla

Mumbai: Nineteen
people were killed
and 14 others injured
after a four-storey
building collapsed in
the Kurla area of
Mumbai around mid-
night, said civic offi-
cials on Tuesday.
A wing of the build-
ing located in Naik Na-
gar society collapsed,
while another wing was
evacuated as it too is
dilapidated, said offi-
cials of the Brihan-
mumbai Municipal
Corporation (BMC).
Search and rescue op-
erations were underway
post the collapse. As per
a senior official, resi-
dents of the building
had been repeatedly
warned about the condi-
tion of the building, but
they insisted on staying
there.
As many as 33 people
have been rescued from
the debris since mid-
night. Ten of them were
declared dead, four
were admitted in hospi-
tals, and nine were dis-

issued an advisory.

As per the guidelines,

idols will face fine and
judicial action.
The Central Pollution
Control Board (CPCB)
issued detailed guide-

Two years later, the

Mumbai: Scamsters are now targeting social media
users posing as police commissioners. Some peo-
ple have approached the police, complaining that
they received calls from people claiming to be sen-
ior city cops, who have warned of arrest over some
social media posts. To make the case go away and
avoid arrest, they asked their targets to pay a fine
online. The complainants said the scamsters sent
them a photo of former commissioner of police
(CP) Hemant Nagrale and Joint CP (Mumbai) Vish-
was Nangare Patil.
Nashik: The Ambad police have arrested a 27-year-
old man on the charge of murdering his 22-year-old
wife in the Chunchale area of the Nashik city on
Sunday afternoon. The police detained the accused
from Aurangabad early on Monday before formally
arresting him. Senior PI Bhagirath Deshmukh of
the Ambad police station said, the accused claimed
that he killed his wife over her alleged affair with
their neighbour. On Monday, around 2 am, the
Ambad police received a call from a police station
in Aurangabad stating that a woman was killed in
the Chunchale area of Ambad in Nashik. When the
husband was brought to the Ambad police station,
he confessed to killing his wife by slitting her throat
with a sharp weapon.

Pune: A youngster celebrating a friend’s birth-
day was allegedly beaten up by locals in Pune’s
Bavdhan area after they thought he was a thief. The
police identified the youngster as Nitesh Deepak
Shelar (19), resident of Shriram Nivas in Bavdhan,
and said that while the incident took place on the
night of June 25, Shelar filed a first information
report (FIR) at the Hinjewadi police station early on
Tuesday. According to the FIR, Shelar was run-
ning behind his friend to apply cake on his face. He
entered the labour camp where people suspected
that Shelar was a thief and attacked him.

two pilots and seven
others onboard fell
into the Arabian Sea
about 50 nautical
miles from the Mum-
bai coast.
The helicopter
managed to stay afloat
with the help of the
attached floaters for
some time, helping
rescuers pull out all
the nine people, a
company official said.
Four of them were
unconsciousandwere
airlifted in a Navy
chopper to a hospital
in Mumbai, where
they were declared
dead, he added.
Earlier, it was re-
ported that six of the
nine persons were
brought to safety and
attempts were on to
rescue others, a com-
pany official said.
The helicopter,
which had six ONGC
personnel onboard,
and one belonging to
a contractor working
for the company, was
forced to land using
the floaters which are
attached to choppers
that carry personnel
and material from
shore to offshore in-
stallations.
The chopper was at-
tempting to land at
the rig, located some
50 nautical miles from
the Mumbai coast,
when the incident
took place. About 1.5
km from the landing
zone on the rig, the
chopper fell into the
sea, the official said.
The circumstances
that led to the incident
were not immediately
clear. Other details too
were awaited, he said.

Mumbai: According to
the MahaRERA web-
site, validity of Maha-
RERA registration of
over 4,500 real estate
projects in the state
with over 3,50,000
flats has lapsed.
However, there is no
mechanism to check
whether these projects
are still being marketed,
despite promoters being
prohibited from selling
the flats. In view of this,
experts have advocated
for the establishment of
a special vigilance cell.
“In the past five years,
36,000-odd real estate
projects were registered
and the registration of
about 4,500 or 12%of the
projects have lapsed. It
is estimated that around
`80,000 crore is stuck in
such projects,” advocate
Godfrey Pimenta, who
practises in MahaRE-
RA, said.
“In RERA, there’s a
provision for takeover
of stalled projects by As-
sociation of Allottees or
flat buyers. Last week,
retired IAS officer San-
jay Deshmukh was ap-
pointed to lead a team of
experts to guide on solu-
tions to revive the
stalled projects. It would
be advisable to refer all
cases of stalled projects
under Sections 7 8 of
RERA to this particular
team so that hearings
get priority
,” he added.
Although it is a re-
quirement of RERA for
promoters to facilitate
registration of Associa-
tion of Allottees on
booking of more than
50% flats, only few take
such initiatives.
There is no mechanism
to check whether the
projects are still
being marketed,
despite promoters
being prohibited from
selling the flats.

News, was arrested
by the Delhi police,
the Mumbai Press
Club, on Tuesday,
condemned the move
and demanded Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi and Home Min-
ister Amit Shah’s im-
mediate intervention
in the matter.
In a statement, the
Mumbai Press Club
said, “Zubair should
be released immediate-
ly. We also request
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi and Home
Minister Amit Shah’s
immediate intervention
in this matter.” Many
other journalists’ or-
ganizations have also
condemned Zubair’s
arrest by the police in
the national capital.
Zubair was arrested
on Monday over a
tweet of 2018 for alleg-
edly hurting religious
sentiments.

leged that Zubair was
arrested in a case for
which no notice was
given by the police,

It is not the Centre alone

AAP, which has faced allega-

ment. The AAP government
would have to be forever vigi-
lant against the presence of

leaders, Draupadi Murmu’s

Earlier, the “fractured”
Opposition camp had pro-
posed names of Sharad Pa-
war, Farooq Abdullah and
Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson
Gopalkrishna Gandhi for the
top post. But all of them re-
fused as they had doubts
somewhere deep down about
the Opposition’s chances of
getting the numbers.
Astute as a politician that
he is, PM Modi has the ability
to think and think fast and
also in terms of long-term vi-
sion. The selection of former
Jharkhand Governor Drau-
padi Murmu as the NDA’s
presidential nominee, after
the tenure of a Dalit Presi-
dent Ram Nath Kovind ex-
pires next month, is in sync
withPMModi’smasterstroke.
With the BJP already en-
joying 48% of the presiden-
tial votes, its candidate, Drou-
padi Murmu, the 1958-born
and former Governor of
Jharkhand, is almost certain
to win. Hailing from Orissa,
Murmu already has the “sup-
port” of the state’s CM,
Naveen Patnaik who recently
advocated for the “state’s
daughter.” And by virtue of
being the former Governor of
Jharkhand, can Soren shy
away from her candidature?
Earlier, in the article I had
mentioned the term “frac-
tured Opposition” camp, why
I said so was evident from the
fact when BJD, TRS and AAP
had stayed away from the Op-
position meeting to name the
presidential candidate… as it
may be recalled. Even though
TRS on Monday said that it
would support Yashwant
Sinha, AAP has remained
non-committal so far.
CRUCIAL ASSEMBLY
POLLS AHEAD
It may be noted that crucial
Assembly elections are due
in Gujarat and HP in Decem-
ber which will be followed by
MP, Chhattisgarh and Ra-
jasthan and the Saffron party
needs to embolden its im-
print in the tribal regions of
all these States to consolidate
its position especially for the
upcoming LS in 2024.
In the long term, picking a
tribal and a woman from Odi-
sha is a huge gesture to boost
the emotions of eastern India
in the Bigger Picture.
RS WIN FOR BJP
WILL MATTER
The recently concluded RS
elections again proved the
acumen of BJP politicians
and their abiilities to con-
vince smaller, regional par-
ties and Independents to con-
vince them and get votes in
BJP’s favour. This also came
as a shot in the arm for the
Saffron party ahead of the
presidential elections.
Forthepresidentialelection
scheduled on July 18, the NDA
govt is short of the required
majority mark by a little less
than 20,000 votes and thus it is
banking on AIADMK and
friendly parties which may
not even be part of the NDA
such as the BJD and YSRCP
apart from the Independents
and smaller/regional parties.
Saffron party’s strength in
RS will now be 95, including
the Independent. On June 3,
BJP had added 14 members to
its kitty when 41 nominees
across parties were elected to
the Upper House unopposed.
The total value of votes of
all people’s representatives
(that is MPs and MLAs) is
10,86,000andmorethan50per-
cent of the votes are needed to
win the presidential polls.
Currently, I reiterate, the
BJPanditsallieshavearound
48%.Thegrandoldparty
,Con-
gress and its allies have 24%
votes, TMC has 5.4%, Jagan-
mohanReddy’sYSRCongress
has 4% and Naveen Patnaik’s

If YSR Congress or BJD pulls
the plug on the Opposition
candidate and sides with the
NDA… it will become a cake-
walk for them to win the polls.

Congress chief Jaganmohan
Reddy met PM Modi recently
and so did Naveen Patnaik
May 30 and politically if that
is any indication of things to
come in the next few weeks,

New Delhi: Even for
the sake of exception, it
does not fall in memory,
that if a regional party
has broken up and the
party has passed from
the hands of the found-
ing leader’s family to
another person. Region-
al parties are also bro-
ken but their break is
never too devastating.
Second, the party has
remained within the
family in most cases
since its breakup and
third, no other regional
party formed out of re-
gional parties has been
more successful. Hence
Shiv Sena cannot be im-
agined without Thack-
erays. It is possible that
Shiv Sena may break up
and a large number of
its MLAs and MPs may
go along with Eknath
Shinde but in spite of
that Shiv Sena will re-
main of Thackeray
family. Keep in mind
that Raj Thackeray had
also separated from
Shiv Sena to form Ma-
harashtra Navnirman
Sena but the party did
not succeed, even
though he was a mem-
ber of the Thackeray
family
.
Many parties were
formed after breaking
away from the Congress
and the BJP, some of
which were also suc-
cessful. Similarly, after
the break-up in the so-
cialist camp, many par-
ties were formed and
were successful. But
this is not the case with
regional parties. Parties
formed by a strong sa-
trap do not break and
even if they break, the
separation group ends.
For example, in the
nineties, there was a
major breakdown in the
Jharkhand Mukti Mor-
cha. Krishna Mardi had
formed a separate fac-
tion, but in the very next
election, the party end-
ed. Parkash Singh Bad-
al’s nephew Manpreet
Badal formed the Pun-
jab People’s Party after
breaking away from the
Akali Dal, but the party
ended in the very first
election. After breaking
away from DMK, MK
Alagiri formed a sepa-
rate party but could not
make a dent in the state
politics. Shivpal Yadav
formed the party after
separating from the Sa-
majwadi Party, but
failed.
After the breakup,
some of the parties
which were left in the
hands of someone from
the family became suc-
cessful.LikeinHaryana,
Dushyant Chautala
formedtheJannayakJa-
nata Party after separat-
ing from the Indian Na-
tional Lok Dal and was
successful in the first
elections. Now the main
partyof Chautalafamily
is JJP
. The Telugu Des-
am Party formed by NT
Rama Rao was taken un-
dercontrolbyhisson-in-
lawChandrababuNaidu
and he was also success-
ful. But no person from
outside can usurp par-
tieswhicharecontrolled
by one family
.
Despite being weak,
such parties are bound
by the charisma of the
leader. For example, de-
spite being marginal-
ised, there are many
parties like Rashtriya
Janata Dal in Bihar,
DMK in Tamil Nadu,
JDS in Karnataka, RLD
in Uttar Pradesh, Akali
Dal in Punjab, in which
there was no big break
and the parties sur-
vived. In this, there is a
different example of
Lok Janshakti Party of
Bihar, in which family
members quarreled,
party broke down and
party’s name and elec-
tion symbol was confis-
cated. Despite this, it is
certain that the legacy
of Ram Vilas Paswan
will remain with his
son Chirag Paswan.
Regional parties can’t be battered by breakaway factions!

leader Tejashwi Yadav walked out from

Kolkata (Agencies): West Bengal Chief
Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday
alleged there is indirect pressure on

Jharkhand have lost
their sleep, due to two
recent political develop-
ments. The first inci-
dent is from Maharash-
tra. There, the Shiv
Sena, which is running
the government out of
the coalition of three
parties, has broken
down and about two-
thirds of its MLAs have
rebelled. If BJP’s ‘Op-
eration Lotus’ is suc-
cessful in Maharashtra,
then this operation will
happen in Jharkhand
too. There is little
chance of break in
JMM running the gov-
ernment in Jharkhand,
but many MLAs of its
ally Congress are al-
ready in touch with BJP
and just as in Maha-
rashtra after two at-
tempts, there could be a
success in the third at-
tempt, in the same way
after two failed at-
tempts in Jharkhand,
there may be a third at-
tempt in the next few
days.
The second event is
BJP’s move to make a
tribal president. The
BJP has nominated
Draupadi Murmu from
the Santhal tribal com-
munity of Odisha, who
was the governor of
Jharkhand, as its presi-
dential candidate and
she is sure to win. With
this one decision, BJP
has changed its image
of being anti-tribal. The
tribal MLAs of
Jharkhand will also
have no problem in go-
ing with the BJP now.
Keep in mind that in the
last election, BJP had
won 25 seats, out of
which only two tribals
won. Later, with the
joining of Babulal Ma-
randi, the number of its
tribal MLAs increased
to three. By making the
first non-tribal chief
minister, the image of
BJP had become anti-
tribal, which will
change now.
That is why the round
of speculation has start-
ed in Jharkhand from
now on. Congress MLAs
had come to Delhi on
Wednesday on the call
of the party high com-
mand, but discussions
started in the state that
they would meet BJP
leaders in Delhi. How-
ever, a situation of ‘Op-
eration Lotus’ not being
successful is being cre-
ated that a by-election is
being held in a seat in
the state, on which there
is a strong possibility of
a Congress victory. If
Congress wins, then its
number of MLAs will
increase and then it will
be a little more difficult
to break two-thirds of
its MLAs.

phane sheet. The noti-
fied list of banned
items also includes
packaging/wrapping
plastic films for sweet
boxes,cigarettepackets
and invitation cards.
According to All In-
dia Plastics Manufac-
turers’ Association
director-general Deep-
ak Ballani, the focus
should also be on step-
ping up action on
proper management
of plastic waste. “We
also want Clean India
and are ready to tran-
sition. But why not fo-
cus on the root of the
problem – plastic
waste,” he says.

GST Council drops tax exemptions on some items
New Delhi (Agen-
cies): The GST Council
on Tuesday approved
changes in tax rates on
some goods and servic-
es while allowing
states to issue an e-way
bill for intra-state
movement of gold and
precious stones, offi-
cials said.
The Council, chaired
by Finance Minister
Nirmala Sitharaman
and comprising state
counterparts, also
cleared a host of com-
pliance procedures for
GST-registered busi-
nesses along with a
GoM report on high-
risk tax payers to check
evasion.
The discussion on
the crucial issues of
extension of compen-
sation to states beyond
June 2022 and the im-
position of 28 per cent
GST on casinos, online
gaming and horse rac-
ing, will take place on

lar on Tuesday,
weighed down by per-
sistent foreign capital
outflows and a surge in
crude oil prices.
At the interbank for-
eign exchange market,
the rupee opened lower
at 78.53 against the
greenback and finally
settled at 78.83, down 46
paise over its previous
close.
During the session,
the rupee touched an
all-time low of 78.85
against the American
currency
.
“The Indian rupee
touched an all-time low
against the US Dollar
amid weak domestic
equities and a surge in
crude oil prices. Sus-
tained selling by for-
eign investors also put

tation costs are likely
to result in moderate
operating profitability
for home textile mak-
ers at around 13% in
this financial year, ac-
cording to a report.
“Slowing exports
growth and high cot-
ton prices will hit the
operating margins of
home textile exporters
by 150-200 bps or
around 13% this fiscal.
The rupee’s deprecia-
tion against the dollar
and sustenance of the
China+1 policy by
global buyers will
cushion the hit on
profitability to some
extent,” Crisil Ratings

this fiscal should grad-

New Delhi (PTI): As
many as 15 companies,
including Adani Cop-
per Tubes, LG Electron-
ics and Wipro Enter-
prises, with committed
investment of `1,368
crore, have been select-
ed as beneficiaries un-
der the PLI scheme for
the white goods sector,
the government said
on Tuesday.
In March, the com-
merce and industry
ministry had reopened
the application window
for its `6,238-crore PLI
scheme for white goods
with an aim to accom-
modate more players.
Last year, as many as
46 firms with commit-
ted investment of
`5,264 crore were se-
lected in the first round
the scheme. In the sec-
ond round, 19 compa-
nies had applied.
The 15 firms selected
include six for manu-
facturing AC compo-
nents with committed
investments of `908
crore and nine for LED
light components with
committed invest-
ments of `460 crore.
Steel min picks 38 projects
New Delhi (PTI): The
steel ministry on Tues-
day said it has identi-
fied 38 high impact
projects to develop
multimodal connectiv-
ity and bridge infra-
structure gaps under
PM Gati Shakti.
“The Ministry of
Steel has onboarded
itself on PM Gati Shak-
ti portal with the help
of Bhaskaracharya
National Institute for
Space Applications
and Geo-informatics
(BiSAG-N),” an official
statement said.

national master plan
for infrastructure de-
velopment was
launched by Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi in October 2021
with the objective to
bring different minis-
tries together and for
integrated planning
and coordinated im-

has been created with
uploading of geo-loca-
tions of all the steel
plants of CPSEs un-
der the administra-
tive control of the
steel ministry.
The geo-locations
of all the mines of

the ministry are also

tions, there are also
plans to upload other
relevant attributes like

DoT issues norms for captive
private network licences
New Delhi (PTI): The
telecom department
has issued rules for en-
terprises setting up
Captive Non Public Net-
work, stipulating a min-
imum networth of `100
crore for applicants
seeking direct assign-
ment of spectrum from
the government.
The applicant must
be an Indian company
registered under the
Companies Act, DoT
said listing out the
broad guidelines that
would apply for CNPN
licence, including rules
for enterprises setting
up such networks.
The CNPN licencee
would not be required
to pay any entry fee or
licence fee.
“For seeking direct
assignment of spec-
trum from the govern-
ment, the networth of
the applicant shall not
be less than Rs 100
crore,” it said.
On the scope of the
CNPN licence for enter-
prises, it said such a li-
cencee may establish
indoor/within premise
isolated captive non
public network for own
use within the areas of
operation of licence.
The CNPN licence
cannot be used for pro-
viding commercial tel-
ecom services.
It will be valid for 10
years, and can be re-
newed.
The applicant will
have to pay one time
non-refundable applica-
tion processing fee of
`50,000 and the licencee
will be required to fol-
low stipulated network
security norms regard-
ing procement of tele-
com equipment from
trusted sources.
For seeking di-
rect assign-
ment of spec-
trum from the govern-
ment, the networth of
the applicant shall not
be less than ` 100 crore.

against them. This is

wrongful restraint,

lice. It is said to be the
result of a fall out in
the family over a flat

pees. After being de-

house, Urvashi was
taken back to a hospi-
tal where she was test-
ed COVID-19 positive.
Namrata, on behalf of
Urvashi, filed a case last
week in the Esplanade
Court under the Protec-

Namrata has lodged

iants of SARS-CoV2,

It added that of the
nine BA.4 and BA.5 cas-
es, two patients were
below 18 years of age,
two were in the 19-25
segment and five in the
26-60 age group.
“Six are men and
three are women. Ex-
cept one, all are vacci-
nated. All cases are
asymptomatic and re-
covered in home isola-
tion. All these samples
were collected during
May 31 to June 11,” the
health department offi-
cial added.
In the last 24 hours,

charged, which took the
recovery count to
77,95,121, leaving the
state with an active
caseload of 25,481, he
said.

per cent, while the num-

oungsters, stu-
dents, and
learners al-
ways need role
models. Indi-
viduals, they
can look up to and idol-
ize. Be it the way some-
one talks and presents
themselves, or for in-
spiration in terms of
deeper life philoso-
phies; it is people who
become Mentors and
Leaders that provide
impetus to a young
generation to aspire to
a higher set of goals
and morality. Having
said that, where do
young people seek and
find these individuals?
It isn’t as if there is a
platform where scores
of inspiring people
gather and one can just
access this platform,
watch, listen, and draw
motivation. Or is there
such a stage? Students
and youngsters are in
luck because that is ex-
actly what TEDx is! A
space, a charged at-
mosphere, an idealistic
idea manifested in a
slew of impacting
talks from people from
different parts of the
world, who, through
their own life jour-
neys, are influencing,
defining, examining,
questioning and fore-
telling solutions to the
world’s problems.
From the iconic Shah-
rukh Khan to Academ-
ics, Scholars and Revo-
lutionaries have
graced one TEDx stage
or another. Reimagin-
ing a model world, in
the process, beckoning
millions of listeners to
feel encouraged.
Ted Talks, over time,
have come to be known
for their immense con-
tribution to a thinking
society. People turn to
Ted Talks to find direc-
tion insights, to lis-
ten to people who have
a deep and unique per-
spective on life. As
someone who is him-
self an ardent admirer
of the organization,
when I was asked to de-
liver my own Ted Talk,
the invitation solicited
a surprising mix of
feelings in me!
First, I felt hugely
validated. Having shift-
ed career paths dra-
matically in my mid-
30s, going from being
in the Media Industry
to Teaching, with abso-
lutely no academic or
professional back-
ground in the latter;
that an organization
such as Ted would
reach out and ask me to
deliver a talk, automat-
ically meant that the
past six years of relent-
less teaching, and ex-
tensive writing on
Communication Skills,
Education in general,
and Parenting, had not
only made an impact
but was starting to be
noticed,acknowledged.
To me, the invite for a
Ted Talk serves as one
of my biggest rewards.
However, after that
initial gush and rush
of adrenalin, disbelief,
acceptance, and pride
– what hit me almost
instantly was – what do
I talk about! If I were to
draw an analogy, it’s
like that one time
you’re asked to make
an award-acceptance
speech and you don’t
want to mess it up. The
stakes here, however,
were even higher,
much much higher. See
in an awards speech,
no one is expecting you
to provoke thought, in-
spire thought, or serve
as an example to bring
about change. At a Ted
Talk that is specifically
addressing children
(since I was going to
deliver the Ted Talk to
kids at a school), it
HAD to be inspiration-
al, yet simple. Mean-
ingful, yet not preachy
.
Have gravitas, yet not
be boring. And really
put out a strong mes-
sage delivered through
real, personal exam-
ples from my own life.
Hence, my nervous an-
ticipation!
Anyway, I calmed
myself and thought
things through. The
great thing about Ted
Events is that they as-
sign a theme. The
theme was simply
, The
Future You. And under
that broad theme, there
were more specific
manifestations of that
theme that one could
adopt. Kudos to the
wonderfully curated
talks I was able to con-
struct my speech
around three distinct
incidents from my own
life, that, hopefully, in-
spired the student au-
dience, and subse-
quently, the online au-
dience (which is yet to
view the video as it is
not uploaded yet), to re-
ally evaluate their own
strengths and passions
in relation to their re-
spective future-selves.
The event itself was
meticulously organ-
ised and faultlessly ex-
ecuted. And though I
had, despite having de-
livered countless lec-
tures and speeches
across India, butter-
flies when I got on to
the stage, they dissi-
pated as I got into the
meat of my talk. It was
an absolutely terrific
experience and one
that I will remember
fondly
, forever!
Aside from my own
experience, one that I
will treasure and cher-
ish forever, I can only
strongly suggest to par-
ents, educators, and
students directly, to
watch and listen to Ted
Talks. In fact, there is a
separate and dedicated
TED channel on our
OTT services where
one can find an exhaus-
tive library of past Ted
Talks. All you need to
do is browse and click

t was a ride of a life-
time for the cast and
crew of Dhak Dhak as
they rode from Delhi to
shoot in Khardung La.
For the first time in the
history of Indian Cin-
ema, a full unit rode to the
highest motorable pass in the
world to shoot a full scene with
all the lead actors. Braving
through extreme weather,
amidst heavy rainfall, sand-
storms and temperatures rang-
ing from 48 degrees to -2 de-
grees, the team wrapped the
difficult Ladakh schedule
with surging emotions.
Talking about the first lin-
ear Delhi to Leh 40 days sched-
ule, Dia Mirza said, “The most
memorable instance for us as
artists on this film was making
it to the Khardung La pass! It
holds such deep significance to
each of our characters in the
story and each one of us felt it.
Immense gratitude for our pro-
ducers, the crew and most im-
portantly the Indian Army for
makingtheexperiencesmooth-
er for us.”
Fatima Sana Sha ikh talked
about her experience, stating,
“I was the most excited about
this schedule as I love going for
bike rides, but this journey
pushed my limits, personally
and as an actor. We made it
through all the ups and downs
and reached Khardung La! It
was an unbelievable and
exhilarating experience to
shoot there and by the end of
it I know that I’ve learnt so
much more about myself as a
performer and a person.”
Speaking about the film and
the shoot, Ratna Pathak Shah
said, “If someone had told me
6 months ago that I would be
riding a bike to Ladakh at 65, I
would have laughed! This film
has been special to me in many
ways. It has forced me to face
my fears, taught me to trust
myself, my colleagues and my
crew in stressful situations,
taken me to one of the most
beautiful and awe-
inspiring places
in the world and
introduced me to
some wonderful
people.
When a
film be-
comes an ad-
venture for all in-
volved, it stops being a
product and becomes an expe-
rience. The story becomes a
part of us!”
Sanjana Sanghi added,
“There are some moments in
life that simply don’t feel
real, that is just larger than
life! Being on the road for
weeks had been a transfor-
mational journey, culmi-
nating at the breathtak-
ing Khardung La pass.
It’s been challenging
and physically
gruelling, yet
tremendously
satisfying.”
A
li Abbas Zafar has given Bollywood an array of hit
films such as Mere Brother ki Dulhan, Bharat, Sul-
tan, Gunday and Tiger Zinda Hai. The filmmaker
has now grabbed the official rights of ‘The Transport-
er’, Jason Statham’s hit action franchise.
Reportedly, Zafar has gotten the rights to
the film for his production banner, AAZ En-
tertainment and it seems that the filmmaker
will work on the Hindi remake after he is done
with his upcoming film ‘Bade Miyan Chote Mi-
yan’ starring Tiger Shroff and Akshay Kumar.
A source close to the development revealed,
“Ali has been wanting to make The Transport-
er in Hindi for a while now and after prolonged
discussions with the international studio, Eu-
ropaCorp, he has bagged the rights to make it
in Hindi for a hefty amount. Ali will be directing
the film himself and is excited to write the script.”

Rizwan Siddiquee
said.
