1 White People Are Exhausting White people can be exhausting. Particularly ex hausting are white people who don't know they are white, and those who need to be white. But of all the white people I've met-and I've met a lot of them in more than three decades of living, study ing, and working in places where I'm often the only Black woman in sight-the first I found exhausting were those who expected me to be white. To be fair, my parents did set them up for fail ure. In this society where we believe a name tells us everything we need to know about someone's race, gender, income, and personality, my parents decided to outwit everyone by giving their daughter a white man's name. When I was growing up, they explained that my grandmother's maiden name was I'm Still Here the world, They were teaching me to speak up until those in the back could hear me, School was over. Time for the real world, Turned out Dr. Simms was right, even when I didn't want him to be, 5 Whiteness at Work Confession: By the time I graduated from college, l thought l was the white culture whisperer, I was fearless, I thought any future encounters of racism would rear their ugly heads like purple dragons, and I had no doubt in my ability to slay racist non sense wherever I found it, l was so wrong, Far from an imposing beast, I found that white supremacy is more like a poison, It seeps into your mind, drip by drip, until it makes you wonder if your perception of reality is true, Being a Black woman in the professional world of majority-white nonprofit ministries was far more difficult than my younger self could imagine, In school I had been surrounded by whiteness, but colleges often encourage students to question au thority, to navigate cultural conflicts, to be creative .

Last Sunday the host of a popular news show asked me what it meant to lose my body. The host was broadcasting from Washington, D.C., and I was seated in a remote studio on the Far West Side of Manhattan. A satellite closed the miles between us, but no machinery could close the gap between her world and the world for which I had been summoned to speak. When the host asked me about my body, her face faded from the screen, and was replaced by a scroll of words, written by me earlier that week.
The host read these words for the audience, and when she finished she turned to the subject of my body, although she did not mention it specifically. But by now I am accustomed to intelligent people asking about the condition of my body without realizing the nature of their request. Specifically, the host wished to know why I felt that white America’s progress, or rather the progress of those Americans who believe that they are white, was built on looting and violence. Hearing this, I felt an old and indistinct sadness well up in me. The answer to this question is the record of the believers themselves. The answer is American history.

There is nothing extreme in this statement. Americans deify democracy in a way that allows for a dim awareness that they have, from time to time, stood in defiance of their God. This defiance is not to be much dwelled upon. Democracy is a forgiving God and America’s heresies—torture, theft, enslavement—are specimens of sin, so common among individuals and nations that none can declare themselves immune. In fact, Americans, in a real sense, have never betrayed their God. When Abraham Lincoln declared, in 1863, that the battle of Gettysburg must ensure “that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth,” he was not merely being aspirational. At the onset of the Civil War, the United States of America had one of the highest rates of suffrage in the world. The question is not whether Lincoln truly meant “government of the people” but what our country has, throughout its history, taken the political term people to actually mean. In 1863 it did not mean your mother or your grandmother, and it did not mean you and me. As for now, it must be said that the elevation of the belief in being white was not achieved through wine tastings and ice-cream socials, but rather through the pillaging of life, liberty, labor, and land.
That Sunday, on that news show, I tried to explain this as best I could within the time allotted. But at the end of the segment, the host flashed a widely shared picture of a 12-year-old black boy tearfully hugging a white police officer. Then she asked me about “hope.” And I knew then that I had failed. And I remembered that I had expected to fail. And I wondered again at the indistinct sadness wellin ...

I had been raised up as a proud black girl. My mother and Father made sure that would help me reaffirm my sense of identity through photos of my great great- grandmother a full Indian. I could see myself through her. Thus, I was a very proud black girl and would often identify myself as African as opposed to African American. However, it was a while before I accepted who I was. Growing up as a black girl in a predominantly white neighborhood and school was not easy for me. Many of the Caucasian children of my age in the neighborhood approached me with general courtesy such as why is your nose so big? Why do you have big lips? In the beginning as a child I felt that I was like everyone else until others started pointing out my ethnic features. As I got older is started noticing that I was different. Expressed by both my parents that I was beautiful, it was not enough for validation. It did not help that both my dad and step mom had been very light skinned and could almost pass as Puerto Rican or mixed. The type of light skin that could burn and not get dark. They did not have to be the only black child on the volleyball team in middle school, or the only black girl in Girl Scouts. I started to gain a better picture of how they perceived black people in general. I often wished that I could go to a school that had more black people who were sharing my experience. Perhaps if there were more of us then we could confide in each other and show these other girls that there is absolutely nothing wrong with or awkward about being black (Sen, 2013).
Even in the black community and family no ones wants to be known as the dark one. Our culture brainwashed us to believe not to even marry another dark individual if yourself was dark. “Please don’t bring home a black ashy baby!”. Hearing that all the time, I am wondering but what about love? As a result of these thoughts, feelings I started feeling like I was an incomplete black girl. I kept all these issues to myself until I was an adult with two kids entering the military. There was a different type of discrimination. Gender discrimination.
In a dominate male organization it is very hard to achieve success in the right way. I have never been discriminated as a women and women of color until I entered the Army. TALK ABOUT THE FEMALES BEING IN THE ARMY
As an adult I now recognize that there were elements of white supremacy in the undertone of the comments being made by these girls. They thought that white girls were beautiful and naturally perfect. In the same breadth they thought much less of black girls. In effect they associated all the prominent features of black girls with ugliness such as the kinky hair. This clearly points to white supremacy. They believed in the superiority of features associated with white girls without any factual backing whatsoever (McIntosh, 2000).

In the weeks before the English Departrnent at Oberlin Col-
lege was about to decide whether or not I would be granted
tenure, I was haunted by dreams of running away-of disap-
pearing-yes, even of dying. These dreams were nota response
to fear that I would not be granted tenure. They were a
response to the reality that I would be granted tenure. I was
afraid that I would be trapped in the academy forever.
Instead offeeling elated when I received tenure, I fell into a
deep, life-threatening depression. Since everyone around me
believed that I should be relieved, thrilled, proud, I felt "gnilty"
abont my "real" feelings and could not share them with any-
one. The lecture circuit took me to sunny California and the
New Age world of my sister's ho.

The notion of age of responsibility and maturity level has been the central focus since the inception of recorded history. The question remains today of when and under what circumstances children are capable of forming criminal intent ("Juvenile Justice", p. 5) which has led to continuous debates still occurring today.
Up until the early 1800s juvenile offenders in the United States received the same treatment and punishment as adult offenders. It was very common for juveniles to be housed with adults as well. In 1818, a New York City commission initiated the term "juvenile delinquency", and brought to the attention of the public eye and identified pauperism, or poverty, as a root cause of misbehavior amongst juveniles. In 1825, the Society for the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency began to campaign for the separation of juveniles from adults. Over the course of the next few years, numerous juvenile institutions were established. These institutions, known as houses of refuge, primarily focused on education and treatment, instead of solely focusing on punishment ("Juvenile Justice", pp. 6-7).
With public warning from the New York City police chief, that violent juvenile offenses were steadily increasing, in 1849 the United States transitioned from houses of refuge to concentrating on reform schools and preventive agencies ("Juvenile Justice", p. 7) Industrial Schools for dependent children were founded in 1879, as a result of the Industrial School Act, preceded by the Chicago Reform School Act, but were later held unconstitutional. As a result of unsuccessful reform schools , the child savers movement developed during the post-Civil War era, with high and genuine concern for the welfare of children, leading to the establishment of the first juvenile/family court in 1899 ("Juvenile Justice", p. 8).
By 1932 the number of independent juvenile courts across the United States, exceeded 600. All states had enacted laws developing separate juvenile courts by 1945. Because juvenile courts were not criminal courts , juvenile offenders did not possess the same constitutional rights as accused adult offenders. Historical U.S. Supreme Court cases such as

In the weeks before the English Departrnent at Oberlin Col-
lege was about to decide whether or not I would be granted
tenure, I was haunted by dreams of running away-of disap-
pearing-yes, even of dying. These dreams were nota response
to fear that I would not be granted tenure. They were a
response to the reality that I would be granted tenure. I was
afraid that I would be trapped in the academy forever.
Instead offeeling elated when I received tenure, I fell into a
deep, life-threatening depression. Since everyone around me
believed that I should be relieved, thrilled, proud, I felt "gnilty"
abont my "real" feelings and could not share them with any-
one. The lecture circuit took me to sunny California and the
New Age world of my sister's ho.
Cheetah girl rewrite
This document is an artist's statement by Jessie Simmons describing their story "The Cheetah Girl". Simmons wanted to depict Deaf culture as having a unique heritage and set of norms. The main character Sutton is oral Deaf, allowing her to be more relatable to readers. Feedback requested Simmons expand on the backgrounds of Sutton and other characters, which added metaphor to the story. Sutton's character is compared to a cat throughout, representing her shy nature but ability to defend herself when needed.

1. Informal settings for meetings and to exchange information can be very useful in breaking down barriers. Often, people feel very restricted to voice their opinions when in a formal office setting or in a boardroom with their superiors. I have seen it often in the military where people are given an option to speak up, but no one truly feels comfortable because the setting does not fell appropriate. Wearing casual clothes, drinking a beer, and socializing before business begins can often make leaders feel more "human" to their employees and in return lead to more honest feedback.
2. It is possible that the consultants could have influenced the agenda in more formal ways, but several issues point to the fact that employees of the company did not feel comfortable with the leadership. Originally, the marketing and sales manager was already skeptical of the CEOs attempt to have dinner at his own house, believing that the CEO would attempt to influence the agenda of the consultants. Also, when the consultants invited middle management to the Italian restaraunt, it was noted that middle management had several good ideas but were always shut out and their opinions were not hear. By breaking down those formal barriers, the consultants were able to do their job. I believe more formal ways would have came up short of the desired effect.
3. If I was one of the managers at the Italian restaraunt I would have been relieved that someone was finally listening to us. It was noted that they had ideas and knew why the company was in trouble. Middle management is the where the rubber meets the road between the employees and supervisors. They must be involved when trying to find out better ways to run the business. CURT

During the reading of Illustration 15.3 question 1, Why are informal settings such as dinners useful? It is custom sometimes during business dealings to set the first meeting in a relaxed environment to break the ice and ensured that everyone gets a chance to relax and express their opinions. In this scenario that was the thought of some people but, not all had the same conclusion for a mutual meeting spot. The CEO had other plans, and some saw it as an opportunity to persuade the consultant company in his favor.
Question 2, Could the consultant have influenced the agenda in more informal ways? How? Although I understand having meetings off-site to avoid everyone at the company going crazy until the plan for the consultant is set. Having a more formal meeting is the best practice to set the tone on how serious the situation is. I do believe that the consultant firm could have influenced a more of a formal setting. However, it is a very fragile meeting that the consultan.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
