The document describes the fundamentals of DC machines. It begins by introducing DC machines as generators that convert mechanical energy to electrical energy and motors that convert electrical energy to mechanical energy. It then discusses the basic principles of a simple rotating loop generator, including how a voltage is induced in the rotating loop and how a commutator and brushes can be used to produce a DC output. It also derives equations for the induced voltage and torque in a rotating loop motor. Finally, it examines in more detail how commutation works in a simple four-loop DC machine.

Power System Stability And Control Using Fact DevicesHARENDRA KUKNA
This seminar paper presentation provides an overview of power system stability, including a proposed definition and classification. It discusses rotor angle stability, voltage stability, and frequency stability. Rotor angle stability refers to synchronous machines remaining in synchronism after a disturbance. Voltage stability means maintaining steady voltages at all buses after a disturbance. Frequency stability is the ability to maintain steady frequency following a severe imbalance between generation and load. Flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) are also introduced as a means to enhance stability, security, and power transfer capacity.
The conversion substation receives 220kV power from the captive power plant and uses regulating and rectifying transformers to convert it to DC power for the potlines, protecting the equipment through busbar protection, circuit breakers, and other devices. It performs three transformations: changing the voltage, converting from AC to DC, and converting a constant voltage input to a constant current output for electrolysis in the potlines. Protection devices like Buchholz relays, pressure relief valves, snubbers, and HRC fuses are used to protect the transformers and rectifiers from faults and overloads.
The document discusses common causes of power transformer failures based on Doble PowerTest's teardown inspections of over 100 large power transformers. It finds that most transformer failures are due to localized damage or aging from design, manufacturing, application or maintenance issues rather than old age alone. The key failure modes include reduction in dielectric strength, mechanical strength, thermal integrity, and electromagnetic integrity. Specific faults can include abnormal paper or oil aging, partial discharges, excessive water or oil contamination, loose clamping, winding displacement, short circuits, and local overheating. Being able to detect and address developing faults through condition monitoring can help prevent unexpected transformer failures.
Detection of power grid synchronization failure on sensing of frequency and v...bharath nidumolu
In an alternating current electric power system, synchronization is the process of matching the speed and frequency of
a generator or other source to a running network. An AC generator cannot deliver power to an electrical grid unless it is
running at the same frequency as the network. There are several power generation units connected to the grid such as hydra,
thermal, solar etc., to supply power to the load. These generating units need to supply power according to the rules of the grid.
These rules involve maintaining a voltage variation within limits and also the frequency. If any deviation from the acceptable
limit of the grid, it is mandatory that the same feeder should automatically get disconnected from the grid which by effect is
termed as islanding. This prevents in large scale brown out or black out of the grid power. So, it is preferable to have a system
which can warn the grid in advance so that alternate arrangements are kept on standby to avoid complete grid failure. In this
paper hardware controller based system to identify the abnormalities and to disconnect the faulted part from the grid is proposed
This document discusses fault level calculations in electric power systems. It explains that fault level calculations are necessary to select protective devices, circuit breakers, and equipment that can withstand short circuit currents. The document outlines the procedure for calculating fault levels, which involves representing the system with a single line diagram, choosing a base MVA, calculating per unit reactances, determining the equivalent reactance to the fault point, and using formulas to calculate fault MVA and current. It also discusses how current limiting reactors can be used to insert additional reactance and reduce short circuit currents to match circuit breaker ratings.
This document discusses different types of inverters used in power electronics. It describes that an inverter converts DC power to AC power at a desired output voltage and frequency. It then classifies inverters as line-commutated and force-commutated. Various inverter circuits are presented including half-bridge, full-bridge, and three-phase inverters. The 180 and 120 degree modes of operation for three-phase inverters are explained. Pulse width modulation techniques for inverters like sinusoidal PWM and modified sinusoidal PWM are introduced. Current source inverters are also briefly discussed.
This document discusses sag calculation in overhead transmission lines. It defines sag as the lowest point of sag between two support structures. There are two types of sag - equal supports and unequal supports. Formulas are provided to calculate sag based on span length, conductor weight, tension, height differences, and additional loadings from ice and wind. Maintaining proper sag is important for safety clearances and preventing over-tensioning of conductors that could cause breaks. Advantages include determining safe tension while disadvantages include potential breaks if sag is too small.
This document discusses transformer vector groups and the phase shift between primary and secondary currents. It begins by introducing transformer basics like magnetically coupled circuits and phase relationships between voltages. Diagrams show how polarity markings and connections determine the vector group. Specific examples analyze the Yd1 and Yd11 vector groups in detail, showing how primary and secondary phase currents are related for both positive and negative sequence components. Tables summarize the results, and shortcuts are provided for identifying the vector group from winding configurations.
This document discusses protective relay selection for high voltage industrial and distribution networks. It covers protection against phase-to-phase faults using overcurrent relays with various time/current characteristics. Accelerated selective protection and differential protection are also discussed. Protection against earth faults is covered for networks with isolated, impedance earthed and solidly earthed neutrals. Directional protection is described for networks supplied by parallel cables or transformers.

State space analysis, eign values and eign vectorsShilpa Shukla
This document discusses state space analysis and the conversion of transfer functions to state space models. It covers:
1. The need to convert transfer functions to state space form in order to apply modern time domain techniques for system analysis and design.
2. Three possible representations for realizing a transfer function as a state space model: first companion form, second companion form, and Jordan canonical form.
3. The concepts of eigenvalues and eigenvectors, and how they relate to state space models.
4. Worked examples of converting transfer functions to state space models in first and second companion forms, as well as the Jordan canonical form for systems with repeated and non-repeated roots.
The document provides an overview
The document discusses automatic load frequency control (ALFC) in a power system. ALFC aims to maintain system frequency by matching generator output to changing load. It does this through a feedback control loop involving the speed governor, hydraulic actuator, turbine, and generator. The speed governor senses deviations in frequency and power setting to adjust the hydraulic actuator. This controls the turbine output to balance generator power with load demand and regulate frequency. The control loop maintains small, slow load changes but not large imbalances. The document analyzes the static performance of the speed governor control loop under different network conditions.
The document provides information on grading procedures for various power system protection schemes including:
1. Parallel feeders where directional relays are needed at each feeder terminal to prevent unnecessary tripping under fault conditions.
2. Ring main circuits which require directional relays since fault current can flow in both directions; grading is done by opening the ring at different locations.
3. Non-directional relays can be used on ring circuits if the source substation relays and relays with higher time settings are at load substations.
The document discusses busbar protection, including the need for busbar protection, types of busbar protections like high impedance, medium impedance and low impedance protections. It describes the requirements of busbar protection like short tripping time and stable operation during external faults. The document discusses different busbar arrangements and applications of numerical busbar protection systems like RADSS. It provides examples of busbar protection schemes for different bus configurations. The document also includes excerpts from technical manuals providing recommendations on busbar protection in substations.

Medieval maps showed nearly half of the Netherlands under water, but large areas have since been reclaimed from the sea. Overfishing, oil spills, and global warming now threaten penguins from Antarctica to the Galapagos Islands. The study of aging was once seen as misdirected but has developed into an important science.

Ölçü Trafoları
BÖLÜM-I
ÖLÇÜ TRAFOLARI
A) AKIM TRAFOLARI
TANIM:
devreye bağlı cihazlara aktarırlar. Bunun sonucunda;
a) Cihazların büyük akımlar ile zorlanması,

belirler.
Bir akım trafosunun ölçü veya koruma
amaçlı kullanımı, güç, doyma katsayısı ve P1 P2
doğruluk sınıfı gibi karakteristik değerlerin
farklı olmasını gerektirir. Bu nedenlerle;

Ancak, akımın primere girdiği ucu polarite olarak kabul etmiş isek;

uygulama alanında gerektikçe doğru kullanılması önem taşır. Örneğin;

Rk=2 x L / k x q Rk=1,43 ohm bulunur.
Nk=Is .R formülünde Is=5 Amp için, Nk=52 x 1.43

Nk=35,75
eder. Bu nedenle bazı akım trafo etiketlerinde VA cinsinden güç yerine
Ohm cinsinden empedans verilir.
Nn = 52 x 1,2 = 30 VA. olarak verilmesi ile aynı anlama gelmektedir.
Örneğin;
1 Sınıfı (Cl:1) bir akım trafosu Primerinden;
hatası % 10'a ve Sınıfı 1 olanın akım hatası % 5'e ulaşır. Koruma akım
trafolarının, doyma noktasına ulaşıldığında gösterdikleri bu hata değerleri
sınıf belirlemesinde esas alınarak, bu akım trafolarının doğruluk sınıfları;
Is Doyma katsayısı (n) , doğruluk
sınırının , primer anma akımının
kaç katı olduğunu belirleyen bir
kat sayıdır.
Id = Ip x n n = Id / Ip dir.
Doyma , akım trafosunun nom-
inal gücü ile yüklü olduğu, yani
akım trafosunun anma yük empe-
dansını beslediği durumda tanım-
lanmıştır.
Ip Zn: Anma Yük Empedansı (ohm)
Doğruluk Sınırı (Id)
Nn: Anma Gücü (VA)
Şekil :7 Is: Sekonder anma akımı (A)
Doyma Sınırı
olduğuna göre; anma yükü şu
formül ile hesaplanır.
Nn = I x Zn Zn = Nn / I
Sayısal Örnek:1
100/5 A.bir akım Trafosunun doyma kat sayısı n=5 ise doğruluk sınırı
Id = 100 x 5 = 500 A. dir.
Primerden geçen akım 1000 A.'e de çıkarılsa sekonder akım yaklaşık yine
25 Amp dir.
Sayısal Örnek:2
Anma Gücü 30 VA; akım oranı 100/5 A.olan bir akım trafosunun Doyma
kat sayısı n=5 dir. Bu akım trafosuna 30 VA.toplam gücünde cihazlar
bağlı iken; primerinden 2000 Amp çekilmektedir.
9
9. Ölçü Trafoları ve Seg. Koruma_haldun Büyükdora
Ölçü Trafoları
Akım oranı k=100 / 5=20 olduğuna göre sekonderden 2000/20
=100 A.geçmesi beklenirken, bu akım trafosunun Doğruluk sınırı
Id=100 x 5=500 A. olduğundan sekonderden ancak Is =500 / 20=25 Amp
Amp çekildiğini, ancak doyma kat sayısının n = 10 olduğunu varsaysak;
Doğruluk Sınırı Id = 100 x 10 = 1000 Amp olacak ve sekonderden
Is = 1000 / 20 Is = 50 Amp geçecektir.
n = 5 olması öngörülür.
akımların, akım oranına göre sekondere yansıması tercih edilir. Böylece;
Bu sargının gerçek doyma katsayısı aynı formül ile hesaplanırsa ;
ng = 30 x 10 / 45 =6,7 bulunur.
Nn= 60 olmalıdır.
Ip ωs
=
Is ωp
11
11. Ölçü Trafoları ve Seg. Koruma_haldun Büyükdora
Ölçü Trafoları
Örneğin; Primer akım : 40 Amp
Sekonder akım : 5 Amp
Oysa; proje, malzeme siparişi, arıza bildirimi vb. pratik uygulamalarda
genellikle akım oranları, Ip/Is şeklinde ifade edilir.Burada “Ip” aşağıda
belirtilen standart akım değerlerinden biri ve “Is” (genellikle) 5 Amp dir.
[Ip] Primer Akımlar (A) [Is] Sekonder Akımlar (A)

standart değerler 1 Amp, 2 Amp

der akımlar tercih edilebilir.

diğer hallerde de , sekonder

akım 1 Amp olarak seçilebilir
7) Termik Anma Akımı [ Ith ]
Oluşan kısa devre akımları , akım trafolarını termik bakımdan zorlarlar.
Termik anma akımı ; bir akım trafosunun; 1 saniye süreyle, zarar
görmeden taşıyabileceği maksimum akımın etkin değeri olarak tarif edilir.
12
12. Ölçü Trafoları ve Seg. Koruma_haldun Büyükdora
Ölçü Trafoları
Standartlarda bu değerin ; primer akım anma değerinin 100 katı
olması öngörülmüştür. Bu değer Ith=100 In olarak gösterilir.
Gösterilmemesi durumunda da bu değer geçerlidir.
Akım Trafosunun kullanıldığı noktadaki kısa devre akım değeri ve devre
koruyucuların; arızayı temizleme süreleri dikkate alınarak yapılacak
hesaplamalar sonucunda; gerek görülmesi halinde; daha büyük termik
anma akımlı trafolar özel olarak üretilir. (200 In , 300 In vb)
saniyeden uzun olabilir. Bu durum dikkate alınarak Termik anma
akımının aşağıdaki bağıntı ile kontrol edilmesi gerekir.
Ith
Ik = bağlantısından
t
Idyn = 2,5 Ith
ÇOK SARGILI AKIM TRAFOLARI :
a) Çift Primer Sargılı Akım trafoları:
