There are two types of radiation: non-ionizing radiation which does not break chemical bonds and has minimal effects, and ionizing radiation which can break chemical bonds and cause cancer. Ionizing radiation such as X-rays and gamma rays is more dangerous than non-ionizing radiation like infrared and radio waves. Exposure to ionizing radiation can lead to nausea, vomiting, hair loss, diarrhea, dehydration, nervous system damage, and eventually death depending on the length and severity of exposure.
