Unit 4: Costing/Commercial Viability
Demonstrate the viability of your product (how there is a need for it and how it will be
possible to make. Highlight how audience and content research have suggested this idea
relates to a gap in the market.
The main gap in the market is that my documentary is for young people and is made by a
young person. Yet also, there aren’t any documentaries that are about segregation in
cricket at school level.
My audience and content research showed there was a gap in the market for my
documentary because not a lot of my target audience didn’t really knew exactly how cricket
in school was segregated and they seem to not be really bothered about segregation in
cricket at school level due to ignorance and lack of interests.
My documentary is a gap in the market because there aren’t any documentaries about the
issues that I will be covering. Also the argument regarding segregation of cricket at school
amongst young has grown. Therefore, a lot of people will be interested to watch the
documentary and will definitely have a place in the market.
For my documentary I will have the opportunity in my hands by producing this documentary
to raise awareness about the issues that I will be cover mainly about segregation in cricket
at school level to the wider public and primarily to my target audience who will and can
make a difference for out new generation.
The need for my documentary will be that I can shed light on the issue of segregation in
cricket at school level that is completely increase every year and are becoming more of a
normal habit to the people. It is become too much and it is effecting our younger
generation. This must be stopped and the only way is through my documentary.
If you want the new generation of young people to emphasis or make more effort on
playing cricket as a one community in school or outside schools than there is no need for me
to produce my documentary. Instead, if you want a new generation that makes a difference

to our country and maintains the cultural capital than stand beside me and supported me to
produce this documentary in order to remove segregation in cricket at school crossing many
boundaries and it’s becoming too excessive in our modern western society.
If this is not stopped our younger generation will not know or acknowledge other culture
or religion.
My documentary is made possible by interviewing Wasim Khan who will or can talk about
my subject matter in more detail in my. I will also introduce Eric Ferebee who works as a
secretary in Battersea Cricket Club who I will be interviewing him in order to make it clear
that there are different ways to tackle segregation in cricket at school level.
For the production of my documentary I have to talk about the viability of my proposed
treatment. Basically, viability means the capacity to operate or to sustain. My documentary
is viable or in other words, do-able as I can arrange interviews with the contacts that I have
to make for my documentary. Prior the interviews, I will structure professional and relevant
questions for my interviewees.
In addition, I am also able to conduct voxspops, in my documentary, I will be presenting the
introduction and conclusion myself of my documentary and my interviewees. I have to
mention that, my documentary is viable because it is just for 5 minutes and I have by now
developed my idea thoroughly to understand and acknowledge exactly what I am going to
be doing to meet my aims and purposes.
My key focus is on the subject matter and makes my documentary understandable and
professional. It is also viable because if there are any errors or mistakes I have got access to
expert software programs to edit, erase, copy, paste, produce or establish what is required
for my documentary. My media teachers are always there to guide and support us in case
things gets out of the hands.
I am confident that with effective research, improvements and developments for my main
idea, I can produce a persuasive and thorough proposed treatment/ documentary.
