ROLL No. 01
 INTRODUCTION
 Information storage
 Importance
 Storage medium
 Conclusion
 Information is increasingly important in our
daily lives. We have become information-
dependent in the 21st century, living in an on-
command, on-demand world, which means,
we need information when and where it is
required.
 Information storage is a central pillar of
information technology. A large quantity of
digital information is being created every
moment by individual and corporate
consumers of IT. This information needs to be
stored, protected, optimized, managed and
retrieved.
 We use data to derive information that is critical to
their day-to-day operations. Storage is a
repository that enables users to store and retrieve
this digital data.
 It can also refer to place like a storage room
where all digital information are kept.
 Data created by individuals or businesses must
be stored so that it is easily accessible for further
processing. In a computing environment, devices
designed for storing data are termed storage
devices or simply storage. The type of storage
used varies based on the type of data and the
rate at which it is created and used.
 According to Omotoso (2000),‘‘information is
playing an important role in various fields of
development and there is a need for proper
dissemination of information at the various
levels, particularly to people at the
grassroots’’. Longley (2000) said, ‘‘It is
needed in all aspects of life and for the
socioeconomic development of individuals,
communities and the nation at large’’.
Several classes of users consume different kinds of
information for different purposes. A user when
searches for information, may want either advanced
level of information or semi-expert level of
information or preliminary level of information
according to his information needs. Every library’s
aim is to provide the right information at the
right time and in the right format to its patrons.
The ISAR system is designed to meet varieties
of needs of different classes of users.
Nowadays ISAR system is designed on
modular basis, which has different components
or subsystems. The user interface is designed
in a friendly manner (user friendliness), so that
ease of use can be ensured.
 Heathcote (2000) stated that information storage
and retrieval is meaningless without the
corresponding storage device.
 Some common storage medium are:
1. Hard disk drive.
2. Floppy Disk
3. CD & DVDs
4. USB Flash drives
5. Memory Card
6. Cloud storage
 Information is increasingly important in our daily lives.
We access the Internet every day to perform
searches, participate in social networking, send and
receive e-mails, share pictures and videos, and scores
of other applications. Equipped with a growing number
of content-generating devices, more information is
being created by individuals than by businesses.
Information created by individuals gains value when
shared with others. When created, information resides
locally on devices such as cell phones, cameras, and
laptops. To share this information, it needs to be
uploaded via networks to data centers. It is interesting
to note that while the majority of information is created
by individuals, it is stored and managed by a relatively
small number of organizations.
