3. SAP HANA: Introduction
● SAP HANA is the most advanced solution for INMEMORY computing offered by SAP that combines
large, scalable memory, multi-core processing, fast
solid-state storage, and data management
● SAP HANA is an APPLIANCE made of software and
hardware
● SAP HANA is used at moment by 1-2% of total SAP
Customer base but Industry Forecasts anticipate an
important growth of SAP HANA installation in the next
3 to 5 years
● SAP and IBM are investing on SAP HANA to be the
platform of the future
● Maneat is active on this important segment
Page 03
4. SAP HANA: Benefits
● Access to critical data on the fly in order to accelerate
decision making and gain insights into key trends
● Instantly explore, augment, and analyze all data in near
real time to make better decisions faster
● SAP HANA “Appliance” lets business users instantly
access, model, and analyze huge amount of data from
virtually any source, in a single environment, without
impacting existing applications or systems, by using
SAP’s In-Memory Technology, Columnar Database
Design, Data compression, and Massive Parallel
Processing
○
However, Maneat experiences have shown that amount of benefit /
effort size may greatly vary, depending on specific customer
environment / application/ and degree of ABAP customization

9. SAP HANA Appliance
● The SAP HANA appliance consists of the SAP HANA database and
adds components needed to work with, administer, and operate the
database.
● It contains the installation files for the SAP HANA Studio, which is
an Eclipse-based administration and data-modeling tool for SAP
HANA
● A set of libraries required for applications to be able to connect to
the SAP HANA database.
● The Software Update Manager (SUM) for SAP HANA is the
framework allowing the automatic download and installation of
SAP HANA updates from SAP Marketplace and other sources using
a host agent. It also allows distribution of the Studio repository to
the users.
● The Lifecycle Management (LM) Structure for HANA is a
description of the current installation and is, for example, used by
SUM to perform automatic updates.

12. T-shirt sizes for SAP HANA
The T-shirt sizes S+ and M+ denote upgradable versions of the S and M sizes:
● S+ delivers capacity equivalent to S, but the hardware is upgradable to an
M size.
● M+ delivers capacity equivalent to M, but the hardware is upgradable to an
L size.

13. SAP HANA editions
● The SAP HANA software is available in these editions:
○ SAP HANA platform edition: basic edition containing the
software stack needed to use SAP HANA as a database,
including the SAP HANA database, SAP HANA Studio for data
modeling and administration, the SAP HANA clients, and
software infrastructure components.
○ SAP HANA enterprise edition: it extends the SAP HANA
platform edition with the software licenses needed for SAP LT
replication or ETL-based replication.
○ SAP HANA extended enterprise edition: it extended
enterprise edition extends the SAP HANA platform edition with
the software licenses needed for log-based replication with the
Sybase Replication server.
